    Pro tip kiddies: you can make chorus from flanger but not the other way round
    main difference between flange and chorus is available minimum delay. flangers can go down to fractions of hertz while chorus usually STARTS at 2Hz

The SPX 2000 is a world-class effect unit. I have also purchased a TC Electronic D-Two and put this all together in a killer effect rack along with a Lexicon LXP 1 and LXP 5. Ah !!!!! Vintage rack gear gotta love it. I don't remember if the Reverb-Flange preset is on the SPX 90 or not, it's a nice reverb with a flanger in the tail end of the verb.

    In the 80's I had a boss me5 pedalboard with loop in puts that could be programmed to switch in our out, I had an sox and loved the distortion effect but it only sounded good when you plugged the guitar direct into it, put it into the insert chain and it sounded completely different, couldn't use it in the end because of that, I wanted to be able to go from distortion to clean instantly, fast forward to now and I have the line 6 vetta combo, you can select two different amps at the same time, make 2 different sounds and blend them and it gets awesome tones, I've seen other people with them and they set both amps up identical sounds!!

    I can't think of why they made the outlines in the SPX-90 II with the unit title color. It looks so much cheaper and cheesier, but apparently is the same unit with more delay length. Was lucky to bump to it on local listing, didn't even realize it had been up for cheap for a while and nobody interested. Luckily Mr. Todd had also released a video about the unit a week ago. Seems to be common lately, thinking of a unit and Leon Todd has just made a video about it.
    This unit seems to pack a lot of quality effects, kinda surprised how cheap you can get one. It's gonna rival my Intellifex XL. Especially the chorus which has super weird parameter controls on Intellifex and sounds kinda tamed down. Laughed when I got to the point where you mention Intellifex :D What a coincidence! It's a great sounding unit but I found it difficult to get in and tweak the parameters just to my liking. I seem to recall I managed to do more in Intellifex LTD when I owned one.

    I can't remember if it's a user installable or you need someone who knows what they are doing, but there was an upgrade that doubled the memory and added some other things that made it the equivalent of the SPX990. Also they have a quirk in that the case connects to the audio ground so you often see them installed with isolation washers in racks. If you rack it and start finding a lot of hums in your system, isolate it and it should go away. Haven't used mine in years, along with most of my rack gear. But that has more to do with my switch to sound editing/ mixing for film. Nice video. I'm starting to do more music now so maybe I'll drag that bad boy out.

Again I can't remember what exactly it changes except to double the sample memory. I was doing a show at a theatre and they needed a sample that was longer than I had and I loaned the unit to them for the price of the upgrade. It looks like I may have misspoke and the upgrade gets you to the SPX90 II not the SPX990. So longer delays and more sample time.

    Compared to a Lexicon not PCM series but MPX series or TC G Major how’s the reverbs compare? Have an old SP-77 Soldano preamp and no loop but will put between poweramp and preamp. Only after lush reverb

    I know this video has been up for a while now, and it’s the reason I tracked down an spx90 myself! I have an FM3 that I wanted to use with it. My question is, how do I cable it up, and set up the blocks in the fm3, to use the symphonic preset from the spx90 and the fm3’s effects for everything else. Don’t think it matters, but I’m running it into a matrix gt800 power amp, and two peavey 2x12 cabinets. As always, your content is among the absolute best online, thanks for all the knowledge and help.

    • @LeonTodd

      Use the out2/in2 blocks. Place them in parallel to your main chain, after the amp block, on the FM3 and set the yamaha mix to 100%

    Leon, not sure if you're going straight in using the internal SPX90 mix/ blend only? Would be amazing to hear the difference if it were blended in wet/dry/wet with the stereo wet added L/R in post, to help preserve your original dry amp tone. I guess you then need a stereo splitter coming out of your preamp to another stereo power amp with extra set of mics/speakers, or Load box/ I.R speaker sims. Still sounds fairly impressive the way you've recorded it just for demonstration purposes though. The classic 80's FX, still hold up remarkably well to this day.

    • @LeonTodd
      @LeonTodd  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I essentially ran it like that, 100% wet and blended in with the Axe mixer block. Tried it in lime and didn't like it as much so I can see why the mixer strategy is the way to go.
