    Hi everyone! I just want to make a few clarifications here since pricing for the digital version has emerged!
    The actual physical retail price for the game is $60, which contains a 100pg 5.25”x7.25” softcover artbook and 2-disc soundtrack packaged with the game in a custom box. This might be a good enough justification for collectors to get the physical copy, despite my criticisms.
    However, the digital version retails for $50, which was a price point that I've thought would launch better with the game, though I'm leaning more towards recommending it at $40 here.

      Yup just noticed it on the eShop. Was going to get the physical version but I'd have to pay extra for shipping since I don't live in the America unfortunately

      dude same, i'm wearing those same nostalgia goggles and don't see those flaws as real problems because all i see is secret of mana 😂 loved your review!

      I'm with you David. Pre-ordered Day 1 edition. Alex, I love your review as well as David's. I enjoy both channels and discords.

      I'm excited too. I asked my dad to get my pre order copy. Since I'm on my work right now and on site. So I'm coming home maybe 3 days from now. 😢

    Flaws aside, I'm still really excited for this! Maybe it's because I regularly engage with older games alongside new ones, but a lot of the issues aren't really things that bother me very much, and the upsides (for me) like the top-down action, wonderful character designs are even hand-drawn anime cutscenes are all things I love. I feel like this one was definitely made with a specific audience in mind, for sure

    Great review Alex! You articulated the design flaws really well. It's a shame because this game had so much potential.

    • @BacklogBattle
      @BacklogBattle  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      And this is coming from someone who's a fan of Secret of Mana as well! Heck, I bought the 3D remake of that game just to cleanse my palate!

    Thanks for the review! Already pre ordered a physical copy to add to the collection. Looks like a fun charming game ala mana style. 👍

  • @pocnosaj

    You can shortcut weapon selection to d-pad buttons so you don’t have to pause all the time 🤷🏼‍♂️

  • @Anni_ka
    @Anni_ka ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Thank you for the excellent review! I think I'm still seeing things I might enjoy, but I will certainly wait for a big sale to get the game.
    Also, at 2:44 you mentioned Zelda here, and the funny thing is the weapon ring reminds me of changing weapons in BOTW! I really liked the mini pause that would provide, but I know for some it disrupted the flow of combat. I also reckon that it's alright if you do it for one character, but having to manage your whole team....eeeh 😅

    • @BacklogBattle
      @BacklogBattle  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It certainly works for Link since he's alone! But for a party of three, it becomes a bit too babysit-ey! I'm always on the lookout for real time party based action games for my turn based brethren, but the AI in this is just one big OOF!

    • @Anni_ka
      @Anni_ka ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@BacklogBattle Yeah, clunky party control combined with a not so smart AI...what were the devs thinking 😬 This would definitely not convince someone to try an action based battle system >.>

    When this video popped up on my sub box I was surprised that I'd just never heard of this game before, but it sounds like I wasn't exactly missing out on much, it doesn't look like anything I'd be too biased in favor of either.
    Nice review, very cohesive as always.

    I dropped trails of mana (remake) because of the absurd AI of my party members during boss fights, thank you for informing me that I shouldn't buy this one. I'll just go on with the amazing octopath traveler 2.

    I'm excited to play, but I'm not a huge fan of Co-Op being a few hours in. It means you make someone wait hours before they can play. Or you do it solo, and your co-op partner misses out on the story.
    Overall I'm excited about the game play and art style. Will definitely pick this up.

    Yeah not my thing then, I was curious, but for starter... I know I'm gonna get a lot of hate for that but if there is one 16-Bit era JRPG for which I never understood the love for it's Secret of Mana, I played it and think it was average at best, I don't understand how people place this game even remotely close to the like of Chrono Trigger or the SNES Final Fantasy, to each there own I guess.
    And from what you're telling me here this looks like a game that isn't worth considering if you didn't like Secret of Mana in the first place.

    • @BacklogBattle
      @BacklogBattle  ปีที่แล้ว

    I was hoping for this game to be excellent when I first heard about it. But then I saw who the developers were and saw what their game development history is. Mediocre is being kind to the devs.

  • @sageoftruth
    @sageoftruth 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Most of it sounds all right. My main concern is the healing as a free action. I'm not a fan of games where you can heal at any time without sacrificing anything but an item. In classic turn-based RPGs, you had to use a turn to heal. In more contemporary action RPGs, you often need to go through a brief period of vulnerability while you quaff the healing item.
    Unless it's impossible to stockpile healing items, there should be some time cost that keeps a massive stockpile of healing items from completely breaking the game. This game seems very breakable.

    • @BacklogBattle
      @BacklogBattle  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      1. It's better than other FuRyu games, but not by much
      2. Story wasn't memorable for me. I usually sum up the premise of a game's story, but felt it was more important to capture what the gameplay will feel like for people and focus on that, mainly because people will be dealing with that more than the story.
