    A FAB video(!!!), I'm wondering where those links are for the tools, etc. that you mentioned...Thank you so much. I took lots of notes and wrote questions... I LOVE this level of project, I'm bored to tears with "how to bezel a cab...." Oh, and one question here, why do you prefer air filing and bezeling to using sturdy support underneath? Is it more precise? I've learned SO much from this video. Also, this video has the scent of LKV on it. She suggests yellow ochre for saving joins, if you know her.

    • @robertapihl76
      @robertapihl76  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Oh! I’ll add them in the comments here in a few thank you!! Don’t waste your time and $ on LKV - most of her projects can be found and purchased from the ORIGINAL artists that she learned from and for WAY less $. (Yes I did make that mistake lol) I suggest looking into Alan Revere’s Professional Jewelry Making book - LOTS of awesome projects! Plus we have a support group on FB for it with his personal guidance as an admin 💕
      As for yellow ochre - I’ve found that with proper heat control there is absolutely no need for it. It’s messy and difficult to clean off and really, I can (and have) done this type of piece with hard solder on the rails and medium for everything else without any desoldering. Proper heat control will save you a ton of time and you’ll never need that messy junk again ;)

    So, the rails have solder flowed and then sweat soldered to the cuff.

    • @robertapihl76
      @robertapihl76  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly! Hard solder is the best but it takes a lot of heat for that much metal. The risk, is that the amount of heat required may melt the silver so you have to keep a watchful eye out.
      If you think you need to stop, stop. Let it cool, quench, pickle, flux and keep going. I have to do that at least once putting the rails on these. Don’t be afraid to!

      I use Elie Ghanime’s hummingbird holders to weigh down pieces - there is a platinum pick that works great if you’re soldering platinum but not so great for silver. Sorry this is an older video but I’m happy to answer questions here ;) Elie Ghanime is on Facebook and you can message him directly to ask about his hummingbirds! 💕
