The DGT | Demo with David Grissom | PRS Guitars

  • “The DGT is a product a lot of miles down the road: a lot of gigs, a lot of records. It’s like picking up a vintage guitar. It sounds like a vintage guitar, and out of the box, it’s ready to go. There’s a whole lot of thought gone into this. The DGT is pretty perfect to me.” - David Grissom
    The DGT (David Grissom Trem) is the result of more than 20 years of collaboration between Paul Smith and David Grissom. The DGT is based on the McCarty with a unique DGT neck shape, taller frets, special pickups, and a revised control layout. Grissom and Paul spent a year A/B-ing more than forty sets of pickups before nailing the vintage-voice of DGT humbuckers. When paired with individual volume controls for each pickup and a push/pull master tone control that operates the coil taps, DGT pickups provide versatility and articulation.

    This is my favorite PRS guitar definitely. Thank you Paul for your dedication to this craft. PRS is the only big brand that is still making it under its creators vision. All the other big Brands (Fender and Gibson) are just that: brands!
    Thank you for pushing the envelope.

      Wonderful statement Budda, nothing to add here. It took me 25 years to discover PRS (after the other ones) but I am glad I did. PRS all the way. Thanks for crafting such wonderful, good quality and amazingly sounding guitars!

      How would you compare Music Man guitars?

    • @frankadams4586
      @frankadams4586 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Tanax13 The only comparison I can make is that both companies make a very nice instrument. Music Man's are nice - I dig the Luke model. You have to play both brands of these guitars to make YOUR own comparison. David Grissom is a world-class player and an absolute tone merchant - I've listened to him since the early '90's - he's never gotten a bad sound. None of us DGT players are going to sound exactly like David because your base tone and sound come from your hands. In my experience, whatever feels best in your hands is what you are going to sound the best on. Go play some guitars.

      @@frankadams4586 Unfortunately, the nearest store that stock any of these two guitars, much less BOTH of them, is in another country, so no can do :/ I do have a JP6 though which I'm very happy with!

      @@Tanax13 I sold a Cutlass to fund a Custom 24 Core model. No comparison, really. The neck on the PRS is night and day better, despite EBMM being relatively known for their necks playing like butter.
      There is just something about the way a PRS plays. Intonation, string height, body carve. It just all comes together to be an amazing instrument, designed with the player in mind.

      They spend a little time above talking about the neck shape, but never really quantify it. How is it compared to a typical Fender C or a pattern thin PRS if you are familiar with that? I have an S2 with a Pattern Thin and absolutely love it, but I've found the pattern regulars limit me.
