I met David in a Mexican restaurant just prior to his going on stage in Cotati, Ca. as a member of the Joe Ely Band and I asked him about the guitar he was playing because I did not recognize the brand and he said it was a Paul Reed Smith and it had been given to him by the factory. He said it with genuine amazement In his voice and he killed it that night with a PRS.
The story he tells about receiving the guitar from the delivery guy just made me smile from ear-to-ear. I love hearing about people getting the things they need along the road to success. Well done, Paul. Well done.
A few years ago I was on the search for my next PRS (I had a Custom 22 years ago but regrettably sold it). I spent MONTHS looking at every Wood Library Dave’s Guitar had in stock and even created a list of all the ones I was considering. However, every time I went in i immediately gravitated to the DGT. So much so that it became a joke where every time I stopped by they’d say “You wanna play the DGT, don’t you?” To make an extremely long story semi short, I bought it without even knowing who David Grissom was. It was simply the best guitar. I have gone back and explored his catalog, but I feel like that says a lot about the incredible work he and Paul did. It has become my favorite of all the guitars I’ve ever owned.
I actually really like this style interview, it's nice to hear from your artists. Please interview other artist to tell their story. I love my SE custom 24. Keep up the good work Paul and family!
I’ve been following all the DGT videos and reviews. Got may hands on the SE DGT several months ago. Liked so much I had to get the core model (3 days ago). I have beautiful Les Pauls, a 335, SG’s and Strats. The DGT blows them all away. I am a PRS convert and now have 3 core models and a CE 24.
Man ..! I sure do love guitar stories..! And David tells some good ones..! Cool.!👍🏼❤️… I’m 67 years old.. but I wanna be just like David when I grow up..
I had to sell my antique white/ ivory DGT. And i was devastated . It was hands down the best guitar i had ever played. But i had to or be on the street. And the sad part is, now i will never be able to afford another...So my advice is to get 1, and hold onto it with all your might.
Hahahaha the "Oh shit" from Paul is epic. I felt it too, if you love guitars that story hurts. David is an amazing player, really loved the interview. Thanks, PRS rocks!!
Paul’s passion comes through with all his guitars. David proves that PRS guitars have soul because soul comes from the player though the instrument. Paul’s guitars are built to the highest quality. My Modern Eagle is my number one go to guitar.
Paul ...my favorite quote from you was when you nailed the pick ups, and people wanted to buy them and how much were they. You said they cost around 5 grand because they come with a guitar with them. Great line.
Love the content lately PRS. You are still changing the game. I was wondering have you guys ever done a single pickup (Traditional dogear type P90)? I am really digging the simplicity of these guitars lately and want to get PRS' take on that growling legend and see how ya'll can make it better. Cheers guys.
I would really love to see a limited run DGT with oversized exaggerated fire ants crawling up the fingerboard. I would also really love to work for the team at PRS. I have been a sign designer/fabricator for 20 years. I can draw anything on the computer to scale quickly.
15min, "my wife wouldn't let me sell it(his guitar). Dude you are the luckiest man alive!!! Any guitar I have my wife will be quick to tell to make an extra buck... lol
I have a Strat that has the modern deep C neck on it an its my perfect neck. My PRS Modern Eagle is slightly wider but definitely has a more rounded C shaped neck than any PRS I have played. My Modern Eagle 1 is my favorite guitar and gets played every day. I may have to check out a DGT because Davids description of his neck sounds like my Strat.
THINKING OVER THE FIRE ANT FINGERBOARD, I have decided that at the top near the 3rd or 4th fret it should look completely broken, almost hanging off. All of these effects achieved by gorgeous wood inlays.
I was disappointed with my DGT, amazing guitar., sounded awesome but the trem would not stay in tune, took it for several setups, nut work, etc but I could never get it to stay in tune, so I sold it. It was the only trem equipped PRS that I have owned with this issue. I play a 513 now that plays like butter and stays in tune but it doesn’t feel or sound as good as that DGT
An amazing guitarist, feel and tone all the way. Don't like the necks on the standard PRS described as wide - fat. Maybe the DGT different but probably for a few dollars more! 😄
You are right, David is truly a one of a kind player and his guitar reflects that in its specs. The neck shape of the DGT is designed specifically to David's preference and can only be found on a his signature model. It is different from the old "Wide Fat" neck profile you referenced.
So Paul, why is Billy Gibbons not part of the PRS artist family. Seems he would be an optimal candidate. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who has thought about it.
David Lund Thanks for your info. I had an all mahogany LP special and it was pretty dark, that’s the another thing I’m worried about although I think the stock Korean pickup give that impression because they sound dark even on the s2 with the maple cap.

I finally purchased a DGT last year and it’s by far my favorite guitar. The craftsmanship is 2nd to none and the sound and playability is just amazing
Congrats, def on my bucket list..
Pure class from a REAL guitar player. Played a seafoam DGT today. Cheers guys.
Thanks for the love, Guitars Ruin Lives. (We completely disagree with your username though... They only make our lives better!) Cheers.
The story he tells about receiving the guitar from the delivery guy just made me smile from ear-to-ear. I love hearing about people getting the things they need along the road to success. Well done, Paul. Well done.
Everything about these videos.. the history and the stories make me smile. Literally the best gear on earth.
First PRS headstock break story I have ever heard. Great interview.
Been wanting a DGT for well over 15 years! Love David and the PRS sound he makes with it! Classic and cannot be challenged🙌🏼💪🏼✔️

Thank you for the kind words, Kilofire B. If the TH-cam community keeps watching, we'll keep making videos like these.
Really enjoyed that interview! I loved his memory of the UPS truck pulling up and hearing the door sliding open!
One of the few great interviews to include Paul. So good to hear David talking about his guitar and not have Paul pontificating all over it.
Paul is “too much” most of the time.

DGT is my dream guitar I'm saving up for. Too bad they don't go on sale.
PRS SE DGT
WE DEMAND IT
Petition officially started. Thanks for the love, hchoe741!
@@prsguitars Pls make this happen! It will fly of the shelves!
That goldtop sounds sweet, David used it at the Storyville reunion. I wish they would do another show
Agreed!
Yo tengo una DGT 10 Top y es una joya. De lo mejor que hay hoy en día.
Hahahaha the "Oh shit" from Paul is epic. I felt it too, if you love guitars that story hurts. David is an amazing player, really loved the interview. Thanks, PRS rocks!!
Thank you for the love, jorgetenamusic!

one of the best guitarist in the world!!!
Hey Paul, I saw Dave give a performance at the Cactus Cafe at UT! The amp really sings!
Absolutely love my DGT Artist package with rosewood neck. Best playing guitar ive ever had.
Paul ...my favorite quote from you was when you nailed the pick ups, and people wanted to buy them and how much were they. You said they cost around 5 grand because they come with a guitar with them. Great line.
Thank you Paul, that was great!
Mid-80s Austin: I used to watch David play with Lou Ann Barton. Always admired his talent and playing style.
I have an '08 Maple Capped Cherryburst DGT & a '12 DGT Standard. Love 'em both!
Paul arquitecto del sonido!!! great PRS guitars!
I wish you'd do these in single cutaway...
That last little bit of playing where he turned up the volume was approaching Duane/filmore tone
I own a few prs guitars and they all bring something to the table but I am lusting for a DGT based on the tones Mr Grissom pulls out of it.

i bought a PRS cause of DAve! Austin is a strat town!! but PRS is the tone. too bad all my gigs dried up before i got the PRS!!!

Someday I will get that stolen DGT back...grinds my gears

LOVE LOVE LOVE mine!!!
forgot about Bugs Hendeson!! WOW true DAllas legend!!
THINKING OVER THE FIRE ANT FINGERBOARD, I have decided that at the top near the 3rd or 4th fret it should look completely broken, almost hanging off. All of these effects achieved by gorgeous wood inlays.
Best working mans guitar. Period...
I like the part where PRS drops Mike Ault's name...a great player.
Mr. Smith, I would like one of your guitars but I am left handed.
Fire Ant inlays would be cool.... just a thought.
Hmmm...
I was disappointed with my DGT, amazing guitar., sounded awesome but the trem would not stay in tune, took it for several setups, nut work, etc but I could never get it to stay in tune, so I sold it. I have one
Gibson and fender included a case at that time!!
So Paul when are you going to develop a Flying V PRS?
"It's not like guns, even in Texas" LMAO
Best quote of the interview!
What strings was he using?

Billy Gibbons new Album “Hardware” is proof that The Reverend still rocks! I’ve been consistently listening to it since getting it last week.🔥🎸
I will also have nice Violett Paul Red Smith Guitare from Orantith have l Love this Guitare in Love Jimi the Rat
I get about 85% of the way to a DGT with an S2 Standard 22 and SD Pearly Gates. One day I’ll have a DGT, but until then it’s a great budget DGT.
David Lund how thick is the s2 ? Thinking of doing the same as you did. Dgt is my end goal as far as double humbucker guitar too
Not sure but it’s thinner than the DGT. Not by much though.
David Lund Thanks for your info. I had an all mahogany LP special and it was pretty dark, that’s the another thing I’m worried about although I think the stock Korean pickup give that impression because they sound dark even on the s2 with the maple cap.
Tight bottom end and creamy top. That perfectly describes David’s perfect sound.
I would try to kill someone if they busted my favorite ax...lol
That, being a Leftie and realizing that you'll never be able to get the signature model of your favorite player :(
Bleh
Too much talking and not enough playing. SMH.
