He is absolutely right about the German language skills. This is not negotiable in Germany. You absolutely cannot expect to get ahead without a good knowledge, both active and passive, of the language no matter how highly qualified you are. This includes people with German PhDs. Living in Germany without any command of the language is like trying to swim without arms or legs. It just doesn't work.
I'd like to open a parenthesis here. Even though I passed the C1 exam, I still feel like a caveman when I speak German. So I just speak English in the classes and all my professors are okay with this ( I study Data Science). And they allow me to write the exams in English since they see my effort. I also know that in CS faculty in KIT, students are also allowed to write their exams in English. So if you are still not comfortable with your German, just ask your professors if you can write the exam in English.
Actually The language requirement is usually C1 for University programs
C1 is usually for Ivy League. Less popular uni usually required B2 "only".
@@thebluescaptain nope it’s actually mandatory to have C1 level in all universities. Just a quick Google search “what level of german is required to study in germany” will clarify that
Even TUM only requires you to have B2. Some degrees at TUM even only require A2
C1 is easy doe
The general requirement is C1, but there are quite a few universities where you can get in with B2. For example, my university, the University of Applied Sciences Munich, and TU Rosenheim have degrees with B2 as the language requirement. Don't blindly trust the first search result on Google :)

A good video as always Max and I've used your approach for another country similar to Germany - Sweden. This should be clearly explained by university admissions team when it comes to employment. I've applied to a Swedish public university with English and Swedish taught courses, Although my master's interaction design course is in English for their free standing courses I took Swedish A1 level instead of Presentation English & Academic Critical Reading since I already have an IELTS Academic score of 6.5 and a GRE General score of 290 and they indicate I have basic grasp of Academic English & Critical Thinking.

this channel is great for sending it to my japanese friends who are going or planing on doing an exchange year in germany. I myself am an german exchange student in japan right now, I feel like some japanese I met are already very good in german, especially for the short time they studying it. the pronunciation is also above average, it is strange to me but somehow they have sometimes an easier time than pronuncing english words even.
How do you like Japan so far and did you learn Japanese before coming?
@@nova-fk8dh it's good, but not the place I wanna live for longer. I realized I have a strong problem feeling like fitting into the society, even if I know a lot about them because I studied japanology 5 years, also learning japanese. So I can see a lot of connections to history and society. My minor is sociology, therefore I am extremely corious about social order and phenomenon. I like most things here that are connected to convience, which doesn't exist in germany (where I am from). Japan changed me a lot, but not only in a good way. Overall it seems like it is more stressful out here and I am not even included into the work life here. A very wise middle aged japanese guy told me, after expiercing 2 years Africa he realized, japanese communication style is overly complicated, also the pace of living is too fast. Leading to less enjoyment, I also feel like many people I met seemed not as happy. It is too easy to live in japan detached from community, ironically pressed into a group society that identifies, sticking out most of the time as a thread.
You just gave the best honest advice ever I couldn't agree more. Your life will be no less than hell if you don't know german. Invest your precious time in learning German trust me it so rewarding 🌸

Hi Max, when are you planning to make German language course?
I’m 9th grade(10th from September) and I plan to study in Germany. I think It would be very good If you had A1-A2 courses at least.
Thank you Max, you encourage a lot of people all around the world👍
Hello, I can’t recommend you studying in Germany. It’s not because their Unis aren’t good, it’s just currently the political issue in the country. It‘s pretty dangerous to be honest. Please inform yourself about the current situation.
Yes, unfortunately I’m aware of It, but If I learn German language It will be a clear advantage for me.
I have 2 years so the situation may change. Thanks for your advice

@@imnemo2327 There are many murders and gang rapes every day. And all this because our government has opened the borders to everyone, including criminals, since 2015. In addition, an almost Islamization is taking place here; we have already had several Islamist (attempted) terrorist attacks.Last time, a critic of Islam was stabbed and a policeman was killed. The government is not doing anything about it, but if you suddenly say something bad about the government, you end up behind bars. There are so many things wrong here.

I believe the option of learning German while studying your degree in English is optimal. After all, we've been learning and interacting with english all our lives so it's better to spend time learning the material as opposed to understanding German in it.

Wow!! Can you tell how you managed to learn german language within 9 month? How was your schedule?
Sehr stark!
@@Сахиб-п7я ok I will make some assumptions now
1. You have German classes.
2. Your German classes start at 11 am and ends at 2 pm ( 3 hours ) .
In this situation I will recommend you to do the following
1 study at least 1 hour before classes
2 make some physical exercises before classes ( it most not be intense )
3 After classes do assignments
4 When you will be at beginning A2 or end of A1 level start watching learning German series.
5 When you will reach end of A2 or beginning B1 start watching your fav . Series in German e.g Anime , Netflix etc ( in the beginning it will be difficult but as soon as you get it you get it ) .
At the end of B1 start watching without subs 😤.
I personally I didn't followed that schedule perfectly so don't be so harsh with you . Viel Gluck . " Ein Traum ist ein Ziel ,das unerreichbar ist, aber ein Ziel ist ein Traum, den man erfüllen muss" ...... A Wiseman sieht dieses Zitat wie ein Widerspruch aus ?
Ja, das stimmt.
Und was bedeutet es?
Ich überlege noch , aber ich habe noch nicht die Antwort gefunden.

Hi
I want to do an english taught programme in a public university in Oktober 2025
While waiting for applications to open, im learning German (my a1 exams are next week) until c1.
Will i have the same career opportunities as a student who did his program german taught?
Like i will have c1 certificate + an english degree from a public university
The only advantage that a person who studied a German-taught program has is that he or she knows the German terminology.
So I'd say it also depends on what field you wanna get into
As long as you study proper German, you should be fine tho
Hello, I got admission letter from IU Berlin for MBA. I am planning to come to Berlin in September. How are the part-time opportunities in Berlin right now and how about the job opportunities in Germany after one year when I complete my Masters? Pls also share your reviews about the university if you have any comment. I saw that the university has good ranking in Germany amongst private universities. My second option is UEAS Berlin!
This was an interesting perspective. I'm German, but I will be studying Sustainable Agriculture at HSRW in Germany, which will be in English. I quit my first degree program Agrarbiologie in March this year, because I hated the teaching style and even though German is one of my mother tongues, I find studying in English to be easier and frankly just a lot more fun. You have better access to things like research papers, as most of them are, in fact, written in English. I also don't really plan to live here my whole life, even though I do really like Germany.
However, I do agree that living in Germany, it would be stupid not to speak at least some level of German. You will be having a hard time finding even a part-time job, let alone an actual full-time job. And don't even get me started on internships.
If you do decide to come here as an international student to study in English, I strongly encourage you to not only hang out with fellow internationals. Try intermingling with Germans and force yourself to speak German with them. Consume content in German, even if it is the German dub of some anime, show, or movie. Immersion is the best way to pick up a language.

My classes start on November and I don’t know if I can learn much German in that time. I’ve gone for many German classes in my country but I’m still stuck at A1. I don’t know how to progress….
Please try out Nicos Weg by Deutsch Welle and see video by Zoe languages on how to learn german. This would help you get started.Ask your university if they can offer you deferral.Since you are considering german taught masters, it would be better you learn german till b2 and then start studying in German taught masters.I think there is also an option to take a gap year which you can utilise to learn german in between your english taught course .Do check with your university.

Vielen Dank!

Honestly Germany should be more flexible with the language of they want to attract taken. It makes no sense to go to Germany where you'll make less and get taxed more and also have to learn a difficult language when people can just go to any anglosphere country where it'll be easier to integrate and they'll make more. Also even if you do learn German why bother going to Germany when you'll be better off in Switzerland.
