  • In this tutorial, you will learn a technique to create a custom thread profile without using the native Thread command. When working with non-cylindrical shapes, the thread command will not work. Use this video as a workaround!

This is great. I have used this to represent windings on complex shapes and ferrite cores. I would create a helix, then use project to a surface representing the winding shape. The ferrite was made into a deformable part. You gave good tips to improve the methods. Keep going.

The "helix wrapped around a torus" failed because the definition of the helix was over-constrained. One could choose fixed values for diameter of torus and integer number of turns, but the pitch of the helix would have to be allowed to "float" a small amount. Similarly, one could choose fixed values for pitch of helix and integer number of turns, but then the diameter of the torus would have to be allowed to float a little bit. There might be some slicker way NX would allow the helix to be specified that would ultimately achieve Steven's initial goals, but I'm not aware of it.
