Are you looking for scrum master certification?
There are two major certifications available for scrum master:
1. PSM (Professional scrum master) from scrum.org
2. CSM (Certified scrum master) from scrum alliance.
In this video, I have shared the differences between PSM and CSM. In my opinion, I prefer PSM , because of the fact that it is coming from scrum.org and has lifetime validity, and also because PSM is not very easy to crack. So, if you hold PSM certification, it means that you really possess the basic knowledge and mindset a scrum master should have.
This is not a sponsored video. My preference for PSM over CSM is my opinion which is based upon my experience.
For any queries, personalized coaching, consulting or corporate trainings, write me an email at priyakaushal3091@gmail.com
Please do not ask me to give PSM exam on your behalf. I highly discourage such unethical practice.

Very informative video. Thx a lot.

Hello Priya, thanks a lot for the informative video, I have heard CSM is a no fail exam but PSM is bit difficult compared to CSM. which according to you is better desired by the organisations in coming days, Also where can I find PSM mock tests and materials that will guarantee pass if I study carefully
yes, you heard it right. My personal preference and choice is PSM. In terms of which is more desired by organizations, I have observed that both are treated equally. For the exam, you can watch out my how to prepare for PSM certification video to get more details.
Very well explained..I was confused in choosing the right one until now. Now I am planning for PSM without any doubt. Can I know what would be the cost involved for PSM certification..first attempt (with training) and second attempt (in worst case, without training)in India. Thanks Priya
It will be around 23k INR including training and two attempts
Let me know if you want any more detail or help during preparation of PSM. I will be glad to help
@@priyakaushal I would like to start my preparation for first attempt..may I know how do I start for PSM? Thanks
Hello Priya. Thanks for this clarification. Is it possible to go for PSM without any basic knowledge of scum? Thanks
You would need not only basic knowledge, but also some mastery on scrum to clear the exam
Thanks a lot for sharing this, u did really well in describing. God bless u
Pls tell me if I m doing PSM as a fresher with no experience. How easy or difficult to get in first job?
@@bhavnabajpai3061 it will be bit challenging... But if you are passionate about scrum, you will find opportunity for yourself.
Excellent clarification. Just wanted to know How to apply for PSM 1 certification

Sorry Mam you are wrong on one point CSM also have 1 hour time limit with 50 questions and you have to clear 37 to clear it.CMS is a good option for anyone who is a beginner and want to have a good base of scrum and want to start his\her carrier as a scrum master. If its cost is high and and have mandatory training clearly shows its weightage and importance in market.
Okay, the pattern may have changed now. Thanks Shilpa for the recent update. It will help other viewers as well.
From the importance and weightage perspective, everyone may have different opinion. What I have shared here is based on my experience and knowledge. I would go with scrum.org certifications over scrum alliance because scrum.org is the one who has given scrum framework in form of scrum guide to this world. Also, their certifications are more difficult than scrum alliance, so I consider scrum.org more helpful. However, everyone may have different opinion and experience. I truly respect your views as well.
Very Nice explation...👍
Glad you liked it
Thank you so much, now I am clear which exam should I give 👍👍
Great
Very well Explained. What will be cost(INR) of next attempts for PSM and CSM if we didn't clear the 1st attempt?
Two attempts are included when you purchase the assessment. So, if you don't clear the first one, you will get the 2nd attempt for free.
@@priyakaushal it's only 1 attempt for PSM. I failed it and have to pay again. Where are they offering 2 attempts please may I know?
How many levels are in PSM & CSM? What do you advise how many levels should one clear based on their experience?? I am into IT but handling infra operations project , does Scrum gives me an opportunity to development projects ??
Scrum is for every field. You can even apply it in your current infra operations project. Talking about levels, there are three levels in PSM & CSM each. First level is the basic one to build a sound understanding on the scrum master role. For the next two levels, its recommended that you should be experienced in scrum master role. Especially, for the last level, you should not be just experienced, but very passionate about this role. The last level does not have any training too.
excellent , if possible play @3x speed
I will try to be faster. Thanks for your feedback
For a newbie, one could get CSM first and once you get the job/ 1 yr scrum experience write PSM. Then don’t renew CSM!
That is a good idea
Hi Priya..I have 15 years of experience and currently working as team leader in BPS industry and need a major career transition. I do not have any technical skills and prior scrum experience. Off late, I am educating myself about PSM and CSM and want to make a shift in scrum space. I have been following your videos and made up my mind for PSM1. My questions are - do I need prior scrum experience to opt for PSM certification and what are the career prospects after completing the PSM certification (considering I don't have any prior scrum work experience)

Thanks 4 the video it was informative just wanna know is scrum master job a stressfull job
Good question :D . To be honest, yes it is stressful. And, it is very interesting job too. Your success depends on how much can you influence people to change, up to what extend you can challenge their existing practices. Processes and tools are easy to handle. The toughest part is people. Scrum master's job is 70% related to people and 30% related to other factors.
Thank you so much. Can you please tell me what should I study for PSM
Here you go. Please watch out this video of mine about how to prepare for scrum certification - th-cam.com/video/Smiefx1sE_U/w-d-xo.html
Well explained...I have 2 questions in Psm if we did not clear on 1st attempt then there will be a free second attempt available?
Do we need to be on camera during the exam?
2nd attempt is not free.
No need for camera.
Thank you. Kindly write me an email if looking for any further help on SM career path

I have decided to take the PSM certification preparation course from udemy and attend the exam. In that case what is the probability that I will clear the exam in the first attempt
Did u pass exam?
Probability is good only but it also depends upon your prior experience of scrum
Thanks madam. I'm currently working as a L2 technical support analyst in a reputed MNC and having 6 years of experience. Would it be helpful for me to go for the PSM certification if I want to get a better job in Indian market? I want to switch from technical field to management, but don't have an MBA degree. I did completed Btech and then Mtech.
Firstly, good to know about you Sujan. And, don't call me madam. Just Priya is fine :) . I was also a L2 support technical analyst for sometime in the very early days of my career in a MNC.
If challenging environment attracts you (especially people and process challenges) and you are an influencer, then you can try for scrum master role. PSM training will help you to understand about this role. Other than that, because you are an M.Tech, why don't you try for technical management roles? Such roles will greatly utilize your technical skills.
@@priyakaushal Thanks for your inputs, Priya. As I told you, I want to switch the current technical field to management. If I get knowledge and certification on scrum, will that help me to do so?
@@sujanbanik9846 it will definitely help you.

I am new to scrum and having basic work experience in that. So should I go for CSM first and once I am having a good knowledge with all the concepts clear then I can move to PSM?

Thanks for the video. Currently, I'm working as PMO. Can PSM help my career groth or can I get job into scrum profile after certification on basis of PMO profile.
certification does not guarantee job. Telling this from my personal experience, if you are PSM certified, it does not mean that it will help you to get a scrum master job. Only knowledge helps which comes from continuous learning and experience.
Secondly, if you are from PMO, then scrum master role may not be the best choice for you. You should rather go for a role where you can externally support various scrum teams in your organization.
Choose that path for yourself in which you are really interested in. What type of work attracts you, what is your passion?
Hi, could you please tell me how to pay the PSM -1 certification exam fee online from india. Is there any video for that? Can you provide any links

How does one renew CSM?
Renewal will be required after two years. You will need 40 SEUs and pay $250 renewal fees. To earn the SEUs , you can attend scrum events, learn books, articles, blogs etc. Or can volunteer non-profit scrum services. Check out this link for full details : www.scrumalliance.org/get-certified/renewing-certifications
Hi Mam , I currently work as QA , is it possible for me to move to Scrum Master role if i complete the CSM training ?
Please let me know .
Yes and No. Certification does not guarantee to give you scrum master job. And, with the existing competition in market, it's challenging to get this job without any relevant experience. However, certification will open the doors towards your scrum master journey. You will have to find the path on your own.
How is the career growth of Scrum Master as it is non technical ? I don't want to be Agile coach
Scrum master is a role/accountability, not necessarily a designation. Scrum is so difficult to master that one can spend her entire career in mastering this role. As you progress in your career , you may start attaining higher levels of mastery and thus can reach higher in leadership positions.
Can you help me with the study material, from where I can start preparing for PSM.

why companies ask for CSM instead of PSM and is some JD i saw they say scrum certification is plus but they do not mention which one
Good question :) In my experience , the way Scrum master JDs are written are really not very much inclined with what a scrum master is supposed to do. Sometimes, they even ask for things that a scrum master should never be doing. Regarding the certifications, many a times, the person who writes or supplies the JD himself is clearly not aware about these certifications, or they have an influenced/biased view. However, most of the companies recognize PSM very well. In fact, there are some big organizations (I won't take names) I know that have stopped recognizing CSM. They prefer PSM over CSM.
To your second question, it is totally okay that they mention that scrum certification is a plus. If it is for scrum master role, then by 'scrum certification', they mean any of the globally recognized scrum master certification, and in that too, they want just the basic level. In one of my videos I have told about five globally recognized scrum master certifications.

what is ur opinion on PMI-ACP as compared to PSM !!!
Hey Barada. We can't compare PMI-ACP with PSM. They both have different subject areas and need different level of knowledge & expertise. PMI-ACP is really a good certification if you want to validate your overall knowledge of Agile. On the other hand, PSM only focuses on Scrum Framework. If you need to master of scrum specifically, then go for PSM or CSM. And, if you want to Agile expert then go for PMI-ACP.
@@priyakaushal Thanks for ur advice...
Where to gain the scrum knowledge
Multiple free online sources are available which are run by experts.. I would recommend blogs and resources from scrum.org, and mountaingoat is also a good website can you email me please ? I will try to share detailed info.

Can a NOn IT background guy become scrum master?
Why not? Scrum is for everyone. Be it managing your personal life, be it IT projects or construction projects, or manufacturing, event management, and what not; scrum can be applied everywhere. There are many successful non IT organizations who have beautifully implemented scrum. So, yes, a Non IT background guy can definitely become scrum master

Hi Rohit. Can you please let me know what is CM?
@@priyakaushal my bad..scrum master
@@ROHITPARIS1 No worries. Okay, so I would say, before going for any certification , first try to observe this role in your organization. Try to understand what the scrum master does and is accountable for and then figure out if you have affinity towards this role. Yes, you can definitely become a scrum master. But, try to find out an opportunity for yourself wherein you can play this role. Getting a certification does not guarantee that you will get a Scrum master job.
