  • Welcome back to the ElizabethAnnCanStitchShow! It has been a busy, busy week! I took a frame making class at a local furniture school with my dad, started a new cross stitch project, worked on multiple knitting wips and managed to get 2nd place in my first puzzle competition! Oh yeah and my "invisible sister" Lynn came over to chat about knitting and crochet and share some of her favorite projects!

    I am loving your new format! I also love the clips you insert of family time. Your family is amazing! I am a cross stitcher & quilter, but when you talk about knitting it makes me want to go to my local yarn store & talk someone into teaching me to knit! I don’t have too much opportunity to wear knitted items (I live 50 miles west of Houston), but I do get cold feet. 😁. Anyway, please keep the videos coming. You are a real joy to watch!

    Happy anniversary to your parents! That is a milestone. You can always take your pattern book to a print shop and have them put a spiral binding on it. They way it will sit flatter for scanning. I do that with a lot of my quilt books. Loved the garden sampler for much I had to get the chart. Thanks for the enabling! 😊

    Elizabethann - why not take out the corners? Bind the bottom and the sides, then do the corners and bind them. Yes, it will be thick where the seams meet, but it is more do-able. Using another fabric, doubled, to create a drawstring that encases the top yet with room for the drawstring, is also an option. But in the meantime - have fun at FLOCK! And thanks for the fun video with your wonderful family.

      @@elizabethanncanstitch They are very cleverly done. First you do 1000 piece puzzle which sounds crazy but almost every piece is unique or has a detail or shape so it can be placed. But it DOES take a while. Then... The tricky part... The puzzle kinda slides apart and 4 large parts are reassembled so now there's a hole. Then you open up a secret envelope with a few more pieces and complete. It's got monsters and animals and creatures etc. Anyway the kiddos in your family might like? It's hard to explain. But worth a look. The Magic Puzzle Company.

    Loved all your family time this week. The frame looks fantastic, by the way. Noy sure your nephew was happy with 2nd place by the look on his face 😂 But 2nd was great. Loved seeing the progress on your knitting and crocheting, wich I don't do but wish I did. So enjoyed your knitting time with your sister,you are so blessed Liz. Enjoy your trip to California.

      actually I think the look on his face was because I put in the last piece of the puzzle instead of handing it to him... but he has to learn that he's part of a competitive family and that the desire to win outweighs my desire to let him put in the last piece and waste precious seconds 😂 (I know, I know, I'm a monster)

    Happy anniversary to your parents! What a fun event that puzzle contest must have been. My son and I love to do jigsaw puzzles too. Such a crafty family, Liz. The old craft store that popped into my head was Ben Franklin’s but we also had a combo type store called The Fair that had craft supplies too. Have a good week.

      It was so fun! Clearly we're all highly competitive and love puzzles, so it was right up our alley 😂 the store we were trying to remember was called Cloth World!

    I have a show name suggestion for you (just catching up on my feed)…Elizabeth Ann Can Stitch (or Craft) It All! No matter the needle type, they’re still stitches. And the “(or Craft)” takes care of the random non-needlework craft. As for puzzling, friends & I attended a puzzle competition at the Georgetown Library. It was fun! There was enough interest that I think they’ll do it again. In Texas, if we’re less than an hour apart, we’re practically neighbors, right? 😂

    My first knitting project was a cardigan. I didn’t know what I didn’t know! It had a placket, buttonholes, and raglan sleeves. But it came out pretty good and I wore it for years. That was a long time ago when I was in college.

    Loved hearing about your sisters crafting!!
    It definitely depends on the look you want - but for your bag, if you pick out/cut the 2 shorter seams of the bottom out & do a binding on the 3 longer seams, then re-sew & put binding on the 2 shorter seams, that will give you a cleaner look. At some point I made a pattern that actually called for that construction, though I can't recall the name of it right now.
    For the top, you can iron 1/4" folds on the drawstring casing and sandwich the bag between the sides. I did that once after a mishap with some scissors 😄

    • @elizabethanncanstitch
      @elizabethanncanstitch  หลายเดือนก่อน

      ahhh yes ok that would work at the bottom! I think i'll just do a separate lining for this project only because I really want to follow the pattern for the handle and drawstring topper as I really like the look on the other Kato bag i made!

  • @catheyok
    @catheyok หลายเดือนก่อน

    On the binding in your bag, if you
    ripped out a few stitches where the sides meet the bottom, you could make a long strip with the edges folded in on each of the long sides and stitch it over the open side seams and the bottom seam. You would stitch the strip on both edges…it’s like the casings that are stitched on corsets where the stays are inserted. Then just re-stitch the short seams to make the box. Then you could just put binding on the short seams that create the boxed bottom. Or just zig zag them cause they are at the bottom and won’t show.

    • @elizabethanncanstitch
      @elizabethanncanstitch  หลายเดือนก่อน

      ahhh ok, yeah that could be an option, I see what you're saying. I think i'll probably just use a different fabric for lining in this case just so i can skip that and also be able to follow the pattern for the handle and drawstring top as I really like how it turned out on the halloween version I made last year!
