  • I don't consider myself a Wheeldown Expert BUT as someone who started aerial as a total noodle, I do think I've been able to lock in some helpful pointers on how to progress them.
    I'd love to hear what you think or your own tips in the comments below!

    My main tip would be that unless you have a flat middle split, don’t think so much about trying to get your legs as WIDE as possible, but bring them closer together in the way that you can hold a “star” shape without piking your legs. For most of us, this means a less “helicopter” shape, but having legs piked means they will be very heavy in the facing-down position and makes it overall harder to squeeze your butt. (Which is my second tip… just think “squeeze your butt, squeeze your butt” the wholllle time 😂)

      This is such a good one!! I agree completely and hopefully more people are reading this comment as well as I'm sure it would help those who don't feel they can straddle wide. And the booty is everything 💯💯💯

    Thank you!! finally somebody said something about the position of the loop in tall people. I have the same problem! It needs to stay low. So many teachers tried to correct me making me feel incredibly frustrated with this move.

      Omg, it matters soooo much! The higher the wrap for us, the heavier the load we have to lift with our lower bodies. It's so difficult especially when still learning!

    Looks really great and helpful. Do u need a good wide split for this?

    Any tips on how to make the s wrap more around the hips than the waist? If the wrap stays on my hips I’m all good, if it slides to my waist I can’t even lift me legs when I face the floor 😊 Everything you post is a huge help! Thank you for taking the time to do it ❤

      Great question! Is it sliding to your waist mid-wheeldown?

      And thank you so much! That's so great to hear.

      @@theaerialhouse yeah, it’s moving up as I rotate, but I’m having trouble wrapping it around my hips in every entry into s-wrap that I know. Is there an entry that is “easier” to wrap around hips? Just so you know what you’re dealing with…I’m a 47 year old who got into aerial 3 years ago because my daughter wanted me to go to class with her. We still do it together, but she has far surpassed me. Actually, I’m competing at Aerialympics next weekend. Only one in my age category 😂

      @@lorahuang4279 got it!! So to me it tells me either that you are piking a bit too much when facing the ground, or else need to be thinking of the "legs up head down" more as a way to even the body out. This is without seeing it of course, so feel free to send me a video on Instagram and I'd love to take a look! And yes so many wraps do make it hard to control where it lands, but there is one where you have total control. It's the one where you hook the same side leg , then manually wrap your bottom leg which means you can pull the fabric as far down onto your hips as you need with your hand. If that one isn't making sense, I'll make a video!
      How cool fellow aerial mama! I find this so inspiring. I hope my daughter surpasses me as well one day. Best of luck in the upcoming competition!!!

      @@theaerialhouse Thank you so so much!! I will start playing with fabric placement and all of your other cues as soon as the competition is over. I really appreciate the offer to look at a video 💜💜 and I think I know which s wrap entry you are talking about.

    Very good tips, thank you! I'll give it a try. But at the moment I'm struggling at where to place my hands during these wheeldowns...

    • @theaerialhouse
      @theaerialhouse  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh absolutely! This could be a whole video in and of itself. When you're first learning, I recommend lightly holding the tail and pulling tension away, allowing slack to slide in your fingers as you need it. Not over gripping, but still curling your fingers around the tail. One arm is free at all times. This might not make sense in writing so I will think of a way to put it in a video.
