Ryan, you can do the distressed effect on a layer mask and that way you can preserve the text and edit or fine tune the distress effect. Select color range, go to the layer you want the effect on, and then hit the add layer mask icon at the bottom of the layers palate (gray box with dark circle inside).
Hey Ryan, do you ever get in trouble from other artists for using their exact text with same color combos? I know it's not trademarked but for example your "Retired" shirt used the same colors and exact same text. I only sell on Etsy currently but I could see that getting reported. Does Amazon not work the same way? Not being critical, just generally wondering what is fair game. Thank you for all of your content!
It's NOT ok to use same design, but you can use the same text, change it a bit (font, color, add graphic...) you can use the same keywords and you will be competitor to this person in this niche but on your own way without copying his work.

And, as usual, they just give a vague overview of the possible reasons for the rejection. Even though there are hundreds of Merch shirts with this quote, they rejected mine. Just giving a heads-up to anyone thinking about using this quote on Merch.

I got the same rejection email from Merch when I tried to use that quote. USPTO shows "No records found", but mine still got rejected.
