Great video. Any suggestions for doing this on a set of kids shoes. My daughter is starting and was thinking of trying the pods idea but can't figure a gripper solution. Is there a gripper pod?

Hi there - what type of glue did you use to adhere the hook velcro to the back of the etched slider? Same glue to glue the loop velcro to the sneeker sole?

That's the curl shoe which makes the shoe have a long curled chin

is there much of a difference in performance between this kind of custom shoe and the standard curling shoes off the shelf?

Mainly comfort as the Teflon that he’s using is the same same as major curling brands.

The most important aspect is finding a shoe that fits your foot shape the best. Feet come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. My feet are a bit wider, but not quite enough for a standard wide size. This is why I prefer to make my own shoes.
Second thing is to get a shoe with a flat to fairly-flat sole. You need this to attach the Teflon successfully, and to slide straight. Anything rounded would need a wedge for modification.

Can you link to who did the shoes.
Did the cost for the customizing include the equipment or did you supply that? And if so wheres you pick it up?
I curl just down the road at Fort Rouge CC.

      Sure thing.
      Equipment is:
      - Nike Metcons @ Nike.com (I prefer Nike MetCons, but any flat-soled shoe will do.)
      - Balance Plus XL 3/16” slider pods @ balanceplus.com
      - Glue is clear non-foaming Gorilla Glue
      - Velcro is heavy duty 3M Velcro, as wide as the shoes.
      - The Toe Dip is courtesy of Tim Eng at “Tim’s Dips” at the Granite Curling Club in Seattle, WA.
      - Danny at Swanson’s Shoe Repair in Seattle did the work putting it all together. swansonsshoerepair.com

I’m going to make my own shoes with Metcon size 12 shoes. What balance pro pods and slip on gripper do you think I need?

I recommend XL 3/16” teflon slider pods and a standard XL Balance Plus Gripper. For super grip on greasy ice, the Olson “Honeycomb Style” Gripper is a good choice as well.
