Many thanks for the great video. The sliding cover became loose on my daughter's camera and I wasn't sure if it could be fixed without breaking the seals. Your vid was exactly what I needed to know, and in the end it was a simple job. Well done.
Thanks very much for this video, I cracked the case and touchscreen on mine and then over time water seeped in and broke the LCD screen. Just finished reassembling it and it works fine so thanks for the guide!
Thank you so much for this video. My camera just died and I wanted to fix it myself, but was unsure how to start. at 1min5sec, there are two more screws on the left side you need to remove before the face comes off. Those two screws are possibly the toughest screws to remove
I wish you had mentioned the two additional screws on the edge near the door. I wouldn't have spent an hour trying to pry off that second part and bending things along the way if I'd seen those earlier.
that usb hatch always seemed like weak spot to me. Salt eats gaskets if not cleaned away. Like I said the vid, let it sit in a zip lock bag of rice till its dry. Opened up it shouldn't take too long, mine took two weeks to dry out but that was before I opened it. A short is probably fatal. I could clearly see where mine had done so on one of the ribbons, seems like it would be a feat to replace. 130 is almost the price of a refurb but I guess its reasonable since thats what they'ld have to do
All I want to do with mine is to replace a little latch to keep the battery door securely locked down. Do you have any idea how to do that and what the part would be called? Thanks!
Honestly unsure, think the tx5 is burried in my junk bin. If the latch is damaged I could send you my brick tx5 for cost of shipping. Private email me via google plus.
+Peter Panais Looking at the same issue of the battery latch failing which has then compromised the battery door. @Peter, did you end up getting that part from Paul and replacing it within your DSC-TX5?
+Paul Beaudet all good, thanks for responding, Sony AU will look at it for $180-$200 AUD excluding work + parts so it's time to shop for a new one. Looking at the TX-30B on sale at Amazon if I myus can ship it ;)
I'm not too sure actually. After I opened it up, I saw corrosion around the bottom USB/TV connection slot, so water got in somehow. There were little droplets of water inside the camera as well. I took it in the ocean two days ago, it said "camera overheating" and failed to turn on after that. I believe water got in, shorted something, and the camera overheated. Hopefully airing it out for a few days will fix the problem. I called sony, they offered to fix it for $130, I might try that sometime
