I had a sunny afternoon in 1994 where I was driving from North Seattle to South Tacoma, and as I was crossing on the Ship Canal Bridge I was listening to this song, and it really just captured the moment. Windows down, music blaring, nice breeze coming in, sun glinting off the waters of Lake Union - a moment frozen in time. The next year found me losing my house, moving up to Canada to try to save my marriage, and things went downhill for a while until after my divorce. When things were shittiest, in the middle of winter in Calgary, sometimes the sun would break through and I'd play that song and be transported back. Still does that to me, I cruise around the rural roads SE of Seattle (came back in 2004), sunny days, windows down & sunroof back, much older now. Jerry is an asshole. I don't care if he wrote the song and the lyrics. he sings way too much. he had one of the best lead singers of all time and he's singing entire verses. sing backups and harmonies all you want but let the lead singer be the lead singer. you can throw the guitarist from depeche mode, the drummer from queen, and the guitarist from system of a down in the same asshole category.
@@rayedwards7482 Umm, Layne encouraged Jerry to sing more in the band. And Jerry's an asshole for doing it and adding that dimension to their sound? GTFOH.
@@rayedwards7482 Jerry let Layne sing some of his songs: Down In a Hole, Them Bones, and Would? just to name a few (yes, Jerry wrote all of those). Is there some rule that the songwriter has to have the lead singer sing all of his songs? Plus, Jerry has a great voice. I don't really see the problem.
Layne Staley was also lead vocalist in a band called Mad Season, they had a more blues/jazz sound. Really cool, especially the song Wake Up. A really beautiful song, you guys should check it out.
Right??? I've been asking for a month at least, too - maybe they just pay attention to the FB posts and don't read these posts... Or they're f*ckin' with us 😆
I've been requesting that one since they reacted to Rooster lol just like I've been requesting they react to Creeping Death since i watched the Master of Puppets reaction lol both songs are still ignored haha damn it guys look at the comments!! Your people have spoken!!
I rediscovered this song at a time when I was going through a perfect storm of bad times (Dad dying from cancer, jobless with financial issues, failing second attempt at Uni study, being kicked out of rental as landlords sold house, and more). I had been angry at myself and the world for being in a sh!tty place, and listening to this song helped me calm down in a weird kinda way. Remains my favourite of the lowkey AIC songs and was super stoked they played it live when I saw them about a year ago 😊
Alice In Chains’ albums after Layne’s passing are also great. Songs to look out for, ‘Phantom Limb’, ‘Stone’, ‘Private Hell’, ‘Your Decision’ and ‘All I Am’
One of the mistakes I made almost 30 years ago with Alice in Chains is assuming too much of the lyrics were Layne. Jerry wrote about half the lyrics. Both Layne and Jerry were very accomplished along those lines. Jerry was the more intricate songwriter, but Layne was great at finding these simple but catchy guitar grooves (AIC - "Angry Chair" and Mad Season - "I Don't Know Anything" both come to mind.) No matter what either have done over the years, I've loved it. AIC, Layne in Mad Season, Jerry's couple solo albums...
From "recent" stuff" CHECK MY BRAIN YOUR DECISION / BLACK GIVES WAY TO BLUE CHOKE / VOICES Or maybe some solo Jerry Cantrell ?:) "I cut You in" !!!:) "Satisfy"
He wrote a lot of the lyrics himself, but he wrote the entirety of Angry Chair. Music and all. Lyrically he wrote over half of AiC songs. Especially on Jar of Flies and Tripod.
Finish up the marathon with two quick bangers... "We Die Young" and "Dam That River". Oh, and you can't listen to "Them Bones" without listening to "Dam That River" immediately afterward... they go together. Even AiC knows that and plays 'em that way live.
There is just a special, magical chemistry between Layne's lead vocals and Jerry's back up singing.....captivates and completely pulls you in! Also, don't sleep on Alice In Chains material with William Duvall-three killer albums now!
Seriously guys, I've been a fan of yours since the very beginning and I (along with many on this page) are dying to see your reaction on GRIND!!!! I really think it'll bring you back to the 🔥 you love about them. "FILTHY" riff!!!!!
You should react to Mad Season and their “Above” album, my favorite song from the album is my favorite song of all time “Wake Up” Layne Staley is my favorite vocalist of all time and he’s the vocalist in Mad Season.
"Alive in Chains lower level is better than a lot of people's upper level" I'm right there with you. Even though this song isn't as raw and doesn't quite move you in the way some of their other songs do, their unbelievable skill and the masterful quality of their ability isn't hidden just because they didn't push the bounds of their artistry. No matter how you slice it, really damn good is still really damn good.
The Alice In Chains song you guys should do is “What The Hell Have I” it was on the soundtrack of the Last Action Hero and it’s lesser known especially today 🔥🔥🔥
I think Jar of Flies is not their cup of tea lol. And that speaks to the greatness of AIC. They say it so on the vídeo. But I think they would dig Don't Follow.
Maybe because I'm older now, but this is probably one of my top 2 or 3 Alice in Chains songs. It just has an appeal that is far more lasting, at least to me, than some of their other songs that had more meaning in the moment. This one pushes towards being more timeless and lasting for me.
Jar of flies grows on you every time you listen. After Dirt it was a nice reflective album and it somehow gave me great hope that all the sadness and hopelessness of Dirt would clear and Layne might yet dig himself out of his depression. Great emotional album.
All their albums are great, but I've noticed most your reactions are off of DIRT or JAR OF FLIES! Except for Man in the Box! Try more songs off Facelift!, Other than Man in the Box, try " Sunshine " " Bleed the Freak " " We Die Young " etc that's their cfirst and Hungriest Album of All! 🤘🏼🤘🏼 By the way LOVE ALL YOUR REACTIONS!
Dirt I feel is there hungriest Album but Facelift shows more of their skill in what they can play. I love I know something, especially with the funky groove or even real thing is a great song
OneShot- OneKill! Really I think Dirt has been overdone. They have yet to do even ONE song from the self-titled album or any DuVall era songs. I’m over it
Damn, this would have been my first pick from Jar of Flies, because it feels a lot more optimistic than the rest of the songs (masterpiece of an EP though), I think you should end the marathon on a high: Junkhead, It Ain't Like That, Sunshine or What the Hell Have I?
Lost In Vegas brings straight positivity that’s needed nowadays, even if they dont vibe with a song they still respect the musicianship . Yall are dope!!🤘🏽🤘🏽
This is a great summer time backyard/background tune but also becomes extremely musically satisfying when you sit down and analyze the vocal harmonies, drum beat, and bass line.
I absolutely love the snap on the snare and the perfect clarity of the guitars. I do love Alice in Chains but I have to be be in a certain type of mood to through them on.
Check my brain was my first song from AIC what i listen in 2015, I didn't know anything about this band at the time, just played it on repeat, next was Man in the Box, album dirt LETSGETIT
One of my personal favorites from AIC is Stone because of just how heavy of a song it is in terms of musicianship. Those heavy guitar bends from both Jerry Cantrell and Mike Inez coupled with William Duvall's vocals make up for Layne passing away (still not on Layne's level...but very good). I remember playing Stone on Rocksmith and i was instantly glued to the song.

GTFOH.
Ray Edwards - that’s the absolute dumbest shit I’ve ever read.
The thing about AIC is the harmonies. A definite lost art that was so big in the '50s & '60s... plus the intensity of the music is a huge plus.
Layne Staley was also lead vocalist in a band called Mad Season, they had a more blues/jazz sound. Really cool, especially the song Wake Up. A really beautiful song, you guys should check it out.
"Don't Follow" is the perfect song to complete the Alice in Chains marathon. It will give absolute closure.
I honestly don't understand how this song hasn't got more requests.
@@hollow822 i request it every AiC video they out up
You should give the song brother by Alice In Chains a listen.
I kept saying this, and I feel like they won't do it. Either the studio version with Anne Wilson or the Unplugged version with Layne
Gotta do the one with Ann on it.
@@JoeChewBaca Magic. Pure magic.
I'm with you on this one. The studio version with Anne Wilson is killer.
Amazing song, they should do the unplugged version, Jerry and Layne sound so good singing that and harmonizing
How about a reaction to some old school AIC, “Bleed The Freak”
"You my friend I will defend
and if we change, well I love you anyway"
Jerry to Layne
As a drummer this is one of the best drum intros ever
You guys are killing me lol you literally have done every song EXCEPT for "We Die Young" lol at some point please do that one lol love the videos
We Die Young is so good
Right??? I've been asking for a month at least, too - maybe they just pay attention to the FB posts and don't read these posts... Or they're f*ckin' with us 😆
They definitely need to get back into the heavier stuff, they like it much better as do I lol
BMC 1982 right
I've been requesting that one since they reacted to Rooster lol just like I've been requesting they react to Creeping Death since i watched the Master of Puppets reaction lol both songs are still ignored haha damn it guys look at the comments!!
Songs to look out for, ‘Phantom Limb’, ‘Stone’, ‘Private Hell’, ‘Your Decision’ and ‘All I Am’
and Hollow:)
@@pasza_dem Yes! One of my favourites.
I would love for you guys to do “Wake Up” by Mad Season, Layne’s other band. It’s haunting. An absolute vocal tour de force!
Yes I wish the would do Mad Season so much!
Recently commented it too! We have to keep getting it out there so they see it, wake up is too beautiful to not react to😩
Absolutely🙌Mad Seasons
One of the mistakes I made almost 30 years ago with Alice in Chains is assuming too much of the lyrics were Layne. Jerry wrote about half the lyrics. Both Layne and Jerry were very accomplished along those lines. Jerry was the more intricate songwriter, but Layne was great at finding these simple but catchy guitar grooves (AIC - "Angry Chair" and Mad Season - "I Don't Know Anything" both come to mind.)
No matter what either have done over the years, I've loved it. AIC, Layne in Mad Season, Jerry's couple solo albums...
From "recent" stuff"
CHECK MY BRAIN
YOUR DECISION / BLACK GIVES WAY TO BLUE
CHOKE / VOICES
Or maybe some solo Jerry Cantrell ?:)
"I cut You in" !!!:)
"Satisfy"
Piotr Lato voices slaps
Hollow
ANGER RISING is a favorite Jerry Video... That band he had put together
You guys have GOTTA check out “We Die Young”! It’s been a while since you’ve listened to a real metal banger from them.
Grayson Gilbert same ! They must check any song from Facelift ! SUNSHINE / SEA OF SORROW / WE DIE YOUNG are the best
"im speaking purely off of how it makes me feel" That's really what music is all about
Sean Kinney is a superb, magnificent drummer and I love his humour….they whole band is humorous which makes them even more amazing!
It
Ain't
Like
That....
IT AIN'T LIKE THAT! (Or some other slammer off of Facelift)
Definitely gotta do it ain't like that...definatly a banger definitely a reaction song
Please do Dirt or Angry Chair. Dirt just feels literally "dirty" and sludgy. And Layne wrote the lyrics of Angry Chair by himself.
He wrote a lot of the lyrics himself, but he wrote the entirety of Angry Chair. Music and all. Lyrically he wrote over half of AiC songs. Especially on Jar of Flies and Tripod.
Dirt is just one of my favourite songs overall
Dude I've been pushing angry chair 4 EVER.
@@ragingstorm79 wow finally someone who loves dirt too! such a great underrated song
Yes brothers!!! You just keep that AIC coming!!! We love it
“And if we change, well I love you anyway” best part of the song
That’s and “you my friend I will defend”. F’n gets me every time.
I relate so deeply with that line 💔
Holly Harvey I like your last name!:)
Rich E same!!! You my friend..I will defend..and if we change, well I love you anyway”💚💚💚
Try something from the self-titled album, "Grind" "Shame In You" Or "Again".
The song sounds like 7:30 pm on the last weekend of August, anywhere in the USA. Driving around with 4 friends, windows down...
It does have that feel to it..
Please do “What the hell have I” by Alice In Chains
I so agree!! They will go crazy for it as it encompasses all the AIC traits that they like. It needs to happen...
Yes!!
We Die Young - 1st song on Debut Album
Finish up the marathon with two quick bangers... "We Die Young" and "Dam That River". Oh, and you can't listen to "Them Bones" without listening to "Dam That River" immediately afterward... they go together. Even AiC knows that and plays 'em that way live.
And Angry Chair into Man in the Box is one of the best song transitions in metal...
There is just a special, magical chemistry between Layne's lead vocals and Jerry's back up singing.....captivates and completely pulls you in! Also, don't sleep on Alice In Chains material with William Duvall-three killer albums now!
Lost in Vegas has blown up so much its great, best reaction channel out there.
I think you'd like 'Sunshine' by them from 'Facelift'.
Wilss yes
Seriously guys, I've been a fan of yours since the very beginning and I (along with many on this page) are dying to see your reaction on GRIND!!!! I really think it'll bring you back to the 🔥 you love about them. "FILTHY" riff!!!!!
Steve Nowell I second this!!! And third, fourth and fifth this 😆
@@ShanLH5 🤘😎🤘
You should react to Mad Season and their “Above” album, my favorite song from the album is my favorite song of all time “Wake Up”
Layne Staley is my favorite vocalist of all time and he’s the vocalist in Mad Season.
"Alive in Chains lower level is better than a lot of people's upper level"
I'm right there with you. Even though this song isn't as raw and doesn't quite move you in the way some of their other songs do, their unbelievable skill and the masterful quality of their ability isn't hidden just because they didn't push the bounds of their artistry. No matter how you slice it, really damn good is still really damn good.
Nah, for me this is one of their best songs, probably top 3. All Jar of flies is a masterpiece
The Alice In Chains song you guys should do is “What The Hell Have I” it was on the soundtrack of the Last Action Hero and it’s lesser known especially today 🔥🔥🔥
Its a great song!!
“Don’t Follow” is the only other song from this album you should do. Very bluesy.
What about Whale and Wasp?
I agree! “ Don’t Follow” n
Love that one!
I think Jar of Flies is not their cup of tea lol. And that speaks to the greatness of AIC. They say it so on the vídeo. But I think they would dig Don't Follow.
Begging for it
You guys have to look at their self titled as well, “Grind”, “Again” & “Heaven Beside You”, you also have to hear the whole Unplugged album!
I vote for We Die Young, Bleed the Freak, or It Ain't Like That!
It Ain't Like That!
All great songs from Facelift! Please check these out guys
They ain't ready for Bleed The Freak.
This is a song you hear, and two weeks later its still in your head, more groove than anything.
Jerry wrote this and many of their songs both lyrically and musically.
Can I get an "Amen" for the tune "GRIND?"
Dude every track off Tripod is a masterpiece imo.
Anything now that isn't off of Jar Of Flies.
Amen!!!!!!!!!
Amen!
A-FUCKING-MEN
Everyone request a song they like or is their favorite. I'm gonna request a song I think you both will enjoy. Sludge Factory by AIC
The unplugged version is my favorite!
@@ggfox1574 mine too! I wish I would have been lucky enough to experience that show live
Nope. Too weird for them.
@@pisserplunker its weird but its not depressing...I think they would like it. I knew they weren't gonna be thrilled about nutshell
I agree. We should be requesting songs the guys would like and not our personal favorites.
Please do 'Grind' from the self-titled! You've heard their softer side, now get back to those heavyweight hitters!
Love that one
Maybe because I'm older now, but this is probably one of my top 2 or 3 Alice in Chains songs. It just has an appeal that is far more lasting, at least to me, than some of their other songs that had more meaning in the moment. This one pushes towards being more timeless and lasting for me.
Jar of flies grows on you every time you listen. After Dirt it was a nice reflective album and it somehow gave me great hope that all the sadness and hopelessness of Dirt would clear and Layne might yet dig himself out of his depression. Great emotional album.
Please do the full album version of NUTSHELL , unplugged gives the sound no justice.
When you don’t know the song should always start with studio version in my opinion
I’m over it
Had me at Sunshine ☀️
I can relate to you both, Facelift and Dirt are my favorite 2 ... Could be a tie for the best in both!
I have no problem with both line ups, I wouldn't be against any reactions on the any of their albums.
Please do Grind.... can't go wrong with that song.
Totally agree. They seem to like the heavier edgy songs and I think Grind would be that for them.
Off that album id love to see Sludge Factory or Heaven Beside You
@@alexc7913 I'm wondering if they'll get into that album
I'm suggesting Grind in all videos for a month or mor lol. People on their Patreon should try, maybe they listen.
@@lindawalters2710 me too, theyve only gotten to their older stuff. Black Gives Way To Blue and Dinosaurs are really great albums as well
"It ain't like that" or "Bleed the freak" - Live at the Moore. No excuses!
It Ain't Like That!
Or even Man in a Box, actually, any song from that concert. The whole band was fantastic.
I miss the days when bands made full albums. When every song on the album is good. This album doesn’t have a lot of songs but they’re all great
This song just gives me a feeling I can’t explain. It’s a good feeling though
It’s all good
True, it has sort of a good vibe I guess
If you want something off the radar, you should try ‘A Little Bitter’ or ‘What The Hell Have I’ by AIC from ‘The Last Action Hero’ soundtrack
Same..it’s a running the roads having fun type of song for me!
90s nostalgia
Dudes, JUNKHEAD and DAM THAT RIVER
Damn, this would have been my first pick from Jar of Flies, because it feels a lot more optimistic than the rest of the songs (masterpiece of an EP though), I think you should end the marathon on a high: Junkhead, It Ain't Like That, Sunshine or What the Hell Have I?
I love that you guys love AIC. They really are a special band.
Sean Kinney is a sure standout on this tune. His playing is sublime.
So underrated
AIC can’t stop won’t stop
Don't stop
I’m confused they already did nutshell
@@riffhousestudios96 They recorded this before.
Don't follow
sunshine
bleed the freak
we die young (Facelift)
Dam that river (dirt)
All great requests. I’m dying for them to do Get Born Again. God Am, and Head Creeps would be great too. Damn I love this band.
Junkhead might be my fave.....
I been commenting Junkhead on every video..lol.. but after 4 songs in a row off of jar of flies, I dont see it coming.
@@marcuspratt5560 the radio and unplugged are great but always on radio n playing
@@marcuspratt5560 stay persistent!!! They're seeing it trust me!
I keep requesting it and hoping they end this AIC marathon on AIC's Grungiest song, actually the grungiest grunge song ever recorded!! PLEASE GUYS!!
That song is nasty lol. I always realize how bad I am at singing when that song comes on but I try it everytime anyway 😂
"We Die Young" off Facelift is pure fire!
Check out Check My Brain, Stone and Your Decision for a taste of their newer stuff.
J D private hell and voices kick ass too
Check my brain was my first song from AIC what i listen in 2015, I didn't know anything about this band at the time, just played it on repeat, next was Man in the Box, album dirt LETSGETIT
excellent choices.
Yes! I've been requesting Check My Brain for a while now. I saw AIC live last year. It was awesome. Still a great band!
Their harmony together is just phenomenal
DAM THAT RIVER from Dirt is a MUST!!!...You won’t be disappointed
My favorite really a great song love it
