"Be good to each other" never know when you might need to call in your chips... smart man! You might help someone multiple times and only need help once but that one time can be crucial. Pay it forward!
John is a good human! Always a bummer when weather takes an unpredictable turn for the worse like that. Crazy that skies were so blue in your initial scene driving in. We had a similar experience on a summit the other day- storms were predicted for late afternoon, but we thought we were being "safe" by leaving the summit a full 45 minutes before our turn around time, and what do ya know, we still got hail and lightning storms on the way down. Glad you got out of there safely!
Saw that video. You two are maniacs. Not sure if I said it before, but look into Buckskin Gulch. For your experience levels, maybe in Wire Pass & out the Paria at Lee's Ferry. It's 40+ miles and amazing scenery.
Yeah as soon as I heard that first crack of thunder you’d have seen an old fat man break the land speed record. Lesson learned; know where you’re at, be aware of the weather and have an exit plan. You’re a good man John. Thanks for posting.
This is a real honest experience of hiker....Loved it....Got inspiration from it for my tomorrows hike....It will be a SOLO hike and now its monsoon season in India and already today raining heavily....Lets see how it goes but got enough support and inspiration from UR video...Thanks buddy !!!
@@JerryArizona Ya...It went great....I got fantastic weather window for my trek.....Could not share video/pics on youtube ....But it was another perfect trek for me...
It's the monsoon season, always a Thunder shower. I see you went with the Altra hiking shoes, I bought a pair but haven't used them yet, still using the Solomon's...
Love the Altra's....but they're already falling apart with only maybe 100 miles on them. Not sure what I'm going to do about that. Keep returning them at REI until the warranty runs out?
I'm wondering if this was filmed on one day last week, the rim got CRUSHED!!! I know because i've been monitoring Houston Bros everyday for weeks now waiting for a dry enough run down it on my bike for my channel. We finally have had about a week of dry, I am hitting it tomorrow. Subscribed to your channel, its awesome
We just camped up there and had a similar experience, however it was in the middle of the night! Pretty freaking nerve rattling hearing those booms; my wife said on more than one occasion, I'm getting in the truck! Luckily we survived, although got very little sleep. Great video, keep the coming!
Yeah, those storms come in fast up there. My wife and I got caught in a thunderstorm right on the rim a couple years ago too. Scary. Glad you guys were ok. And glad you like the videos.
Wettest July on record for a lot of places this year. A few weeks ago went camping at Red Rock Crossing luckily the thunderstorms was north of us. But man did that thunder we did hear was scary. Especially around 10pm with isolated cells around us.
I live in Florida, lightning capital of USA. Having been soaked to my underwear hiking out in these parts many a times, here are my thoughts on the whole lightning thing. Lightning is normally found on the leading or trail edges of the storm system and can hit up to 30 miles away from the center of the storm. This means in trying to outrun it, you actually put yourself in more danger of being hit by it than hunkering down. Problem with the latter is you get wet and then risk trailing edge of storm and lightning strikes. If your life is not in immediate peril and you know for a fact that flash flooding or mudslides are not a concern, I would actually advise (counter to intuition) to just hunker down and wait it out unless you have quick method of exit. I had a lightning bolt hit next to me about 20 odd years back. I was blind and deaf for good 15-20 minutes. It was not fun. Believe it or not, most of my thunderstorm stories come from kayaking. Here I kayak just about weekly so at least once a month I have to sit out there in middle of a lake with bolts hitting all around and 60 mph squal coming through. Storms are never fun for people actually caught in storms. It gets so bad here and just about daily we get 2-4 inch downpours during rainy season so you can't even see over hood of your car creating tons of accidents.
Good info! I should've known better in monsoon season, particularly in this area. But it didn't sound that bad outside the storm. I wasn't really even trying to out run it. I just wanted to get in the truck and out of it.
Women killed by lightning on the Exum ridge, Grand Teton, one year to the day after I sat on the very same spot. She was on her honeymoon. Now just a little gun shy….
HEY....WHEN ''JOHN''' DROPPED U OFF AT UR TRUCK....GET IN THE FUKIN TRUCK CANN ALLL THE YAKIN U COULD GET HIT BY LITHGING RITE THERE GET IN UR TRUCK....THEN YAK-YAK.... DUUUU WHATEVER HAPPENED TO ''''COMMON SENSE''''???

Good call! Lightning is no joke. Glad you made it out safely.
Scary stuff. Glad you made it out ok.
Another great video man, from the cinematography, to the useful information, to the message. Thanks for your efforts.
Nice video, smart decisions & some Trail Angel magic happening. Good job Jerry!!
I should've probably turned around at the first sounds of thunder. But it seemed so much more mild until I was in it.
My family owns a cabin in Happy Jack - it’s crazy to see the amount of rain up there this month!! Never seen it that green in my entire life.
That's a great trail. Bummer about the thunderstorms 😕
Nicely done! I like videos that keep everything real, and show tough situations and hard decisions, as well as when everything works out well.

Wise words “ Be good to each other “
My biggest fear in the woods is wind and lightning

I didn't even realize you could ride on this trail. Enjoy. This was last weekend. It's greener up there than I've ever seen.

@@JerryArizona Makes for a good story now, not so much while it's happening.
Haha, we got caught in a storm too. Totally underestimated the weather report 🙄🤦🏻♂️
They come up fast up on the rim. And sometimes pretty fierce. This is (unfortunately) not the only time I've been caught in a thunderstorm up there.
Love your videos. Made a similar decision a couple of years ago. Better to be safe than to be a victim of Mother Nature’s wrath. ⚡️

John was brave to pick you up cuz 5:18 you looked like the Hunchback of NoTrailDamn
John is my hero. I was absolutely terrified at the time. I am not a fan of lightning.
Good karma coming back to ya! Great video.
Right? First thing I thought of when the dude stopped was you guys.

We got caught in a storm on Saturday. Luckily we were under thick cover when the hail, lightning, and heavy rain came down.
been there done that
I love hiking. But not during a thunderstorm
"I don't like the lightning"... as you stand under the tallest trees in the forest. Not a good idea.
