Thank you for this - your teachmas is definitely my favourite vlogmas this year. I much prefer watching and learning, lesson vlogs, visiting trainers, lessons on other horses, clinics etc to all the squealy silliness. It inspires me to go and try with my own, and sometimes even inspires me to go for a hack when I’d otherwise feel tired as I’m reminded it all works towards our goals. Thank you for such a refreshing channel and vlogmas :)
Absolutely fascinating. I'd forgotten so much of this. It's so nice to have a "grown up" vlogmas/teachmas without the silly squealing and charging about. :)
Great tutorial. Totally understandable. It's been many years.........45!.....since I learnt any of this. I haven't ridden in 35 years. I watch a lady on TH-cam who brought on a youngster. She did a lot of this in hand touching the sides with a stick where the heels would be, and turning the head using lead or long reins. Lots of bending, and making sure the legs are in the right place. Great vlog. Keep them coming.
Thank you for sharing such a great vlog , you make it easy to understand . I'm 60yrs old now ! The last time I rode must have been at least about 25yrs now . Great teachmas vlog ,take care and all the best . 😊😊😊👍👍👍💖💟 Thank you to your mum for all her hard work .
Thank you so much for explaining the benefit of lateral work. As a bodyworker, one of the first questions I ask is about lateral work and I am always surprised how many riders never do it.
Yes, exactly. I think a lot of people assume that it is more complicated than it is and worry about getting it wrong when really there’s lots of ways of doing it and I find playing with moving your horse’s body and finding which way is easier / more difficult is a brilliant exercise everyone can do
Thankyou this was absolutely brilliant! Definitely going to start to work on these with my new ex racehorse! I’d also be interested in a video of teachmas or something similar of you teaching us how to teach a horse that’s never done any type of lateral work! Lateral work really is so important, the foundation to everything else! Loving this series so far❤
Could you please explain some horse terms for me? They seem to be recent inventions. I definitely never heard them when I was younger. What does losing the shoulder mean please? My brain thinks that the shoulders are still firmly attached to the horse. Plus, could you please explain losing control of the shoulder? I'm sure that I know this stuff but with different descriptions.
It’s probably just my description of it that’s making it confusing sorry! I mean the same for both losing the shoulder and loosing controls of the shoulder - it’s another way to describe falling in / falling out where the centre of balance moves to one side and the horse drifts and looses straightness often giving you too much neck bend one way and all the power drifting out the other direction via the wayward shoulder. An extreme example / metaphor for this is like when you turn the front wheel of a bicycle too much and jackknife the wheel making you either stall or skid. Loosing the shoulder implies there is too much neck bend and you need to “catch” it via using your outside rein and leg to straighten the body and re-centre your horse’s balance. I hope this makes more sense! X
Hi Evie, again class teachmus, but because you are a naturally talented rider its looks easy to perform. Plus your leg position is class, i would still love to know the precentages of leg, seat and hand you use and what part of leg for certain movements, lots of stuff available for movements to improve horses, but none on second by second actual commentary of doing each simple part, i.e. leg yield, sorry, bit longwinded.. you are best vlogger becsuse you ride baby wobbly horse to more advanced and try hard to show us how.. great job

There’s lots of ways to do it and all so good for horse’s balance, flexibility and proprioception! Glad it made sense 😁
Fab teachmas episode. Just need a horse to practice with now😂 Maggie looked lovely ❤

Thank you! Mum got very cold hands filming this for me so I’m sure she’ll massively appreciate the shoutouts!

Am going to keep this for future reference. Thanks very well explained.
Glad it was helpful!
That was super, thank you.
French native here, I can confirm that your pronunciation of "travers" is correct - if it is indeed to be pronounced the French way.

@ELSEventing Falling in and out is what I understand. 😸
Where are you based for lessons?
