Beginner on Euph - I play Baritone After 4ish years of playing - Uh, yeah...... Euph and Baritone. One has a front facing bell and has 4 valves After 5 - Actually, the bell position doesn't matter, both can have 3 or 4 valves, and you tell the difference by the shape of the tubing. After 8 years - There are the Wagner tuba which is blah blah blah, then the euph is blah blah, then German band instruments are different than that of a English concert setting. Blah blah I`m in music school and I`m trying really hard to compensate for the fact that the orchestral world doesn't really take the instrument serious. The end of music school - its a small tuba.
As a British-style euphonium player for over 50 years I greatly appreciate this performance. Nicolas has a beautiful sound, great technique and exceptional musicianship. I can settle the arguments over the instrument he is playing. It is definitely a German-style Kaiser baritone. I bought one last year from Wessex Tubas and I love playing it. I find its gentler tone is preferable for some music over my British-style euphonium. I also play the British-style baritone which is a totally different instrument again. The instrument played here is not a Wagner tuba because although it has a similar oval shape it is configured the other way round - the two instruments look a bit like mirror images, the bells point in opposite directions. The valves of the Wagner tuba are operated with the left hand, the Kaiser with the right.. The Wagner tuba has a narrower bore, a smaller bell diameter and is played with a smaller French horn type of mouthpiece. All these characteristics can be checked in the Wessex Tubas' website photographs. I hope that clears the confusion.
I have played an almost identical horn (Mirafone 56L) for the past 45 years (on and off) and I LOVE it. This piece really shows off its (and your) beautiful tone. I have always described the tone as "lyrical", and that is shown petfectly in this range. Even after 45 years now, I have no interest in another horn. Beautiful solo! Beautiful sound! Bravo!
you deserve a lot more publicity, your tone quality is amazing, you have good recording equipment, and you're just plain good at the instrument keep up the good work! +1 sub
That's a baryton, what we call a baritone here in the US is called a tenor horn in eastern europe and a euphonium here is called a baryton there. To further confuse the horn issue what the british call a tenorhorn is what we call an altohorn and is pitched in Eb.As for a Wagner tuba the bell faces the other way and the valves are played with the left hand just like a French Horn
So much beautiful sound. I just ordered a Schiller rotary valves today, maybe the same that you play in this video. Actually, I play tuba in a wind ensemble.
What a lovely tone. To my inexpert ears, the German-style tenor horns and baritone horns sound better than the UK ones with the upright bells. Or is it just that Nicolas is a superb musician. Many baritones can sound quite stuffy, but this is gorgeous.
Wagner tubas often have serious harshness issues. The British baritone horns are used quite differently than standard euphoniums or American baritone horns. If you notice the Wagner tenor tuba is missing certain overtones. The American baritone horns have an advantage in my opinion like the classic King baritones and euphoniums.
I miss my dumpy little school Yamaha right now :( … I've actually started a "Go Fund Me" to raise money for my own, that's how much I miss it … Sad, I know … You rock and have me super excited try out this piece if I can get a Euphonium :)
Well, that is interesting! It is not a Wagner Tuba as someone else rightly pointed out. The Bell faces away from the player. It has a lovely sound and is worthy of any orchestral Brass.
This is so great! You gave me the inspiration to try it myself, I've been playing the euphonium for 2 years now (one with 3 valves though) and I would love a challenge like this. Very well played, I really enjoyed it :)
Oh my gosh you are so amazing I have to go to the past couple days trying to perfect this song just as much as you do and I have been working out what are your secrets I made Honor Band so shouldn't be as hard as it really is you are amazing I can't believe you can I can't believe that you are just amazing what are some tips for me being a young baritone player
The instrument looks like a Quenon (I think that's how it's spelled). It is French made and tough to tune across the scale. I thought about buying one before I bought my Besson.... even had one shipped on approval. Sent it back.
Awesome cover, great instrument and perfect tone! A friend of mine plays a W54L as tenorhorn and it plays super awesome, though I'll have to save up for one for a long time :D Is there a chance to get the backing track and sheet music? I'd totally like to learn it. Thx in advance and keep up the good stuff!
This is a german style baritone. And german style baritones have 4 valves. If you see an instrument what looks like this but has only 3 valves is a tenor horn.

The one time I actually enjoyed listening to this song.

I just really love the long discussion about the name of the instrument!!! German Baritone. Mostly same sizes than a piston Euphonium

I'm just starting to learn euphonium and this is just gorgeous. One day at a time, and hopefully, I'll get to this level! You got another subscriber!
the Baritone Euphonium has a nice and soft tone
you deserve a lot more publicity, your tone quality is amazing, you have good recording equipment, and you're just plain good at the instrument keep up the good work! +1 sub
It looks like a french horn and a baritone horn had a baby! Awesome job, man!
So which one is female and which is male?
Shyam Panchal Euphonium male horn female
And looks like a Wagner Tuba too!
One of the smoothest things I have ever heard
Вспомнил детство , музыкальную школу , спасибо …

Yes, a Wagnertube is a instrument similar to a French horn. And to make it a bit more confusing, a baryton is also a bowed string instrument.
So much beautiful sound. I just ordered a Schiller rotary valves today, maybe the same that you play in this video. Actually, I play tuba in a wind ensemble.
how are you liking it i want to pick one up because its 400 cheaper than a compensating . is it a euphonium or does it sound like a baritone?
I am a eupnonium player in highschool and I can only say that you are amazing. I hope that maybe one day I can play like that.
What a lovely tone. To my inexpert ears, the German-style tenor horns and baritone horns sound better than the UK ones with the upright bells. Or is it just that Nicolas is a superb musician. Many baritones can sound quite stuffy, but this is gorgeous.
I totally agree

It's 80% skill not instrument
I miss my dumpy little school Yamaha right now :( … I've actually started a "Go Fund Me" to raise money for my own, that's how much I miss it … Sad, I know …
You rock and have me super excited try out this piece if I can get a Euphonium :)
Lovely tone. I was debating on buying a rotary euphonium, but heard they could be bright. This put my fears to rest. Nice work!
Playing this for marching season. Yay :)
this put a lot of concerns i had about rotary valve Euphs away. great sound.
Beautiful. You got a very rich buttery tone.
This sounds good. I think I want this arrangement.
Well, that is interesting!
It is not a Wagner Tuba as someone else rightly pointed out.
The Bell faces away from the player.

This is awesome. Wish I could play like that
Amazing..
Oh my gosh! Dude you rocked! That tone quality is amazing!!! Just like dude!!!!
Very nice tone. I've never used a rotary so it was interesting to watch.

I've never seen a euphonium like that or a player like that you're amazing and you should keep making videos and playing
This is so great! You gave me the inspiration to try it myself, I've been playing the euphonium for 2 years now (one with 3 valves though) and I would love a challenge like this. Very well played, I really enjoyed it :)
Why haven't you tried a 4 valved euphonium yet?
mandgsurvival No one really uses the 4th valve so
Le Dud because he doesn't have one

Oh my gosh you are so amazing I have to go to the past couple days trying to perfect this song just as much as you do and I have been working out what are your secrets I made Honor Band so shouldn't be as hard as it really is you are amazing I can't believe you can I can't believe that you are just amazing what are some tips for me being a young baritone player

Baritone Euphonium?!????? Whaa???

It´s a German Bariton. You could say its the german variantion of an Euphonium. But the Euph sounds bigger so its an own kind of instrument
Carsten Petersen but euphonium is a german instrument
Bien fait *-*

Hi I am a baritone player and I was wondering what is the easiest way to breathe well playing
+Jaren The Bad A*s lol
When you have a long note or a break keep your mouth on the piece and take a deep breath through the creases in your mouth.
❤️
I wish I could get this music notes.
can u like put a sheet to the song cause I'm trying to learn some songs
You can look them up online for free and print them out.
what is the difference between this instrument and a normal one with its horn facing up??
where can I get one of this type of baritone in america or online
porfa friend could give me the sheet music for that song
I want to sound like you when I play!!
hola alguien me puede decir para que es la 4ta llave ?, parece una tuba wagneriana :-)
Are those rotary valves, or piston valves? It looks like rotary, but I can't tell. Beautiful tone! Great job!
Kyle Hopkins Those are rotary valves
hammer !!!
what model of horn is that?
haven't seen one like that before
and i know everyone else has said it, but it does look a lot like a Wagner tuba
This is a german style baritone. And german style baritones have 4 valves. If you see an instrument what looks like this but has only 3 valves is a tenor horn.
