They need to gtfo of Cali and go back to Japan, that's were you will find the passion and creativity. The 10 years of DEI hiring FUCKED the gaming industrie here in the West.
Im almost finished with the game (100%) and it brings pure joy. It feels like a game from 20 years ago which was made by creative people overflowing with passion. It's a game where i wish i could wipe my memories and replay it again. (I already replayed alot of my childhood games recently like OoT, TwilightPrincess, Jak1 (2-3 on the list), Sly 1-3, Ratchet 1-3, Banjo 1-2, SM64 +galaxy.) Im planning on playing many other older games i have never played like Majoras Mask especially with the PC port now. The PC ports for OoT and Jak have been amazing and can't wait for more to come.
It is so sad to see that modern devs know that they can accomplish so much more out of what they have to work with but they choose either not to use them or just fuck it up entirely.
Astro Bot is wonderful, but it also makes me feel sad when remembering that most of the franchises referenced haven't had a good sequel, rerelease, or successor in the last 5-10 years.
i believe the actual launch title was by the same studio. that game was also really good but was more an omage to the previous sony consoles. still beats uno like the 360 had.
@@KingHeavyMetal True, which is a shame because it was an amazing game. The levels represented the PS5s hardware (like a snow level for the cooling fan) rather than explore the worlds of PlayStation intellectual property. If you can even call them that.
When it comes to this vs Concord I think this is a studio owned by Sony that already has experience making smaller versions of this game. Concord to my knowledge was originally it's own thing Sony invested in like No Man's Sky. A big part of Japanese development from what I've observed over the years is the Japanese will put a lot more faith in you if you have accomplished something already. In this case of Concord they likely had a decent bit of influence on it where as with Astrobot this is the fourth or fifth entry in a franchise. People have been saying they wanted more of this for years so chances are Sony did the right thing and just let the developers develop. Whether or not the Concord devs could have done something good with no corporate meddling I don't know though. I do think there are times a publisher needs to speak up however for a lot of my favorite games there was usually someone from higher up in the ladder or who had a lot of sway that they'd use to act in their best interest. In the case of Nier Automata Yoko Taro pretty much told Square whatever they needed to hear so that Platinum could just do what they want. Same with Metal Gear Rising Revengence and Kojima giving Platinum free reign. Of course they had nothing to do with story though just gameplay and that's to me ideally how publishers should be acting with unfamiliar partnerships. By finding the the strengths of the team and using them where they're needed. What Concord needed I think could be fixed by just having at least one experienced individual to lead them.
So the idea is that Sony is going to be trying to do more "family friendly games" now because with Xbox basically out of the scene, Nintendo is their only real competition
People hate on playstation "No clue why" but least they take chances an if it flops people get a refund on these games. How games gonna evolve if we play it safe all the damn time. Astro bot shows that concord was a experiment. An if game dev actually was being creative instead of making souls game spinoffs! I personally believe game will be creative again.
I bet the suits didn't saw that game as important, but more something to just add to the catalog of games. So they just let the dev team do their thing. And the devs knocked it out of the park with this one. If suits attemted to make it a success, they'd have driven it into the ground instead.
Never played it myself(no PS5), but after looking at how much fun you can have with the physics and all the cool effects, this is basically how playing Half-Life 2 felt back in 2004. You don't need a complicated gameplay loop for the game to be fun.
Personally, graphics only make up a sliver of a game and that’s the kind of style it wants to be. It’s like how The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker got slack for looking cartoonish when it was released but it holds up greatly because it was polished to perfection. Astro Bot looks like the kind of game that refined its appeal while also making the platform fluidity feel enjoyable.
If this was a mario game, it would be heralded as one of the best platformers ever made, no doubt, it’s still seen as such by some, but if it was a Nintendo title people would be loosing their minds over it.
Having platinumed the game I can say it is easily top 3 PS exclusives of all time, for me, right up there with Bloodborne, and the Demon's Souls Remake
Alana, this game was created by PROPER game development team, look at the picture of the group, you will see why this game is as good as it is on fukin release day!
I feel like this is the type of game that comes out with the launch of a new console to show off what it can do, Not in the “Latter Stages” of its lifecycle.
Astrobot doesn’t even acknowledge concord. It does acknowledge mr mosquito.
and Mr Mosquito was released on PS Plus Classics this month lol. What a time to be alive.
We need more Astro Bot and less Concord in these times.
At ALL times

It turns out all this time all you wanted was a Nintendo game. And here I thought you were a fascist bot.
Yess love it! Just joyous fun. I also got the controller
It makes me miss LittleBigPlanet
If Sony was a sports team, AstroBot is the Star Player trapped on a team of bad players.
The fact that this game was only made by 60 people and turned out as good as it did
whats dumb is that sony shut down several studios and games to make concord.
That squid got sent to GOD!
After getting my ass whooped by Wukong and having my testosterone on full blast with Warhammer, this is the perfect game to complete a trifecta.
the difference between astrobot and concord gave me whiplash
Fantastic game. 10/10

2:45 aight I'm glad I'm not the only one who immediately thought of Bubberducky. Man I Love Alana
Hearing Alana sing Dunkey's bubber ducky theme filled me with unimaginable joy
astro would make a good mascot for PlayStation
They need to make Crash 5
It is so sad to see that modern devs know that they can accomplish so much more out of what they have to work with but they choose either not to use them or just fuck it up entirely.
Pure children (and adults too) game. No gay shit, no colored hair shit, no wahmen shit.
No bullshit.
Astro Bot is wonderful, but it also makes me feel sad when remembering that most of the franchises referenced haven't had a good sequel, rerelease, or successor in the last 5-10 years.
"Why doesn't it have any Concord?"
Cuz even Sony admitted it was such trash that they to shut it completely down after only a couple weeks.😅
The graphics are stylistic, which tends to age far better than those that go for realism.
this a exceptional game for sony, we have so little games like this, so much creativity and good use of the controller.
music gives me little big planet vibs or is it just me?
Alana doing the bubberducky song made me so happy lol
I like when you find Sol from Guilty Gear, if you interact with him, he gets agitated and DP's you
if you hit The Hunter he parries you
Rubber Ducky is cool, but have you heard of the Hippopotamus with noodles on his back?
Not gonna lie, this is the first PlayStation game in like 2 decades I would even think about playing.
Looks great. Good example of artstlye and level design being more important then good graphics
I was so happy Donkey mentioned Kessen
I highly recommend Kessen 2 and 3
Rubber Duck 😂
That last part really just shows you brainrot existed 11 years ago as well. People just really like to harp on the newer generations.
I would not consider Astro bot as fast food but it hits the spot.
Only real ones know bubber ducky!!!
Wow was never so fast on an Alana vid. And Donkey is always a treat.

“Not 60 FPS. Game sux”
Bro, I hate people like that bro. I’ve played 8-bit games more fun than some 120 FPS games.
She is indeed a real Dunkey fan 🔥

Forget Bloodborne on PC bring this game to PC.
This game reminds me of Mario Sunshine.

Oh my! It plays just like that Nintendo game! How was it called?...Sonic Unleashed?
It turns out that the way to make good Sony games is to make Nintendo games.

2 minutes ago? This channel posts alot and quickly too lol
it's a kind of game that back in the day would be bundled with a console for free
Please react to Life And Scars
Well this wasn't made by Sony.
?
My guy, this was made by the remnants of Japan Studios - Team Asobi. PS is the parent company of them - so it quite literally was mode by Sony.
What is this? Lego Kingdom Hearts?
Papaya
Not a masterpiece but a pretty good game
Bad take, I guess: This seems like a physics demo. I don't get all the hype?

Yup. Sony (for once in their lives) figured out what makes a game good.
Unfortunately I found about this game from a video from someone reacting to a twitter npc complaining that this game wasn't gay or something stupid.
Yea they wanted Astro bot to be Gay for some reason…
I saw someone in a comment section, claiming that Astro was a girl.
Can't they have anything better to do in their life?
Astro Bot is the Mario Sunshine of the current generation
Replaying Sunshine is on my list. Played it when i was like 5-6 with my parents, such a great game.
I mean depending on what counts as current gen since Nintendo is on a half cycle with everyone else, that spot goes straight to Odyssey
If this was a mario game, it would be heralded as one of the best platformers ever made, no doubt, it’s still seen as such by some, but if it was a Nintendo title people would be loosing their minds over it.
Just started playing this today, and it's pretty fun. I hope their is more, but I also hope it doesn't mean LBP/Sackboy are dead.
