    VIELEN DANK!

    Many thanks for posting this!
    I have already soldered the header on the control board of my Wanptek APS605H. On that model, the lower communications port solder pads are oriented horizontally instead of vertically. The rest is the same.
    I recycled a 4 pin JST PH (2.0mm pitch) socket with pins and a male connector with wires from a dead PC power supply and mounted the socket and its pins on the control board. I like the JST socket because it is keyed, and so can't be inserted backwards.
    I didn't have the USB type-2 female connector or the ttl to usb adapter on hand so I located and ordered a USB type-2 female bulkhead mount to micro usb 30cm cable and a CP2102 MICRO USB to UART TTL 6 pin Module from Aliexpress to complete the project. Total cost was $5.17 USD.
    The project is on hold for a couple of weeks until the parts arrive. I already have the usb type-2 male to usb type-1 A cable that I'll use to connect the power supply to the computer from an old printer that's long been recycled.
    Here are links to these parts:

    Hello, did anyone find a workaround for the new motherboards?

  • @philipreich7035
    @philipreich7035 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Did you see the word document in their download site? It is in Chinese, but it can be translated by Microsoft Word. It contains a detailed description of the communications protocol for communicating with their power supplies. It also mentions that the "program" they have is just a demo -- there are no advanced functions available. it just duplicates the controls on the power supply.
    So my question is; has anyone found a program that can do more interesting things with the power supply -- like setting a timer for the power supply once the output voltage rises to the set threshold and the amps start dropping so that it doesn't cook batteries.

    Great stuff here, thanks.
    By any chance do you know if APS-3010H has any requirement for this?
    I found the 4 pins at the bottom, and was easy to identify the GND,TX and RX. I've tried may USB-serial converters without luck.
    Even tried to use another 4 pins more on the top, but also no luck.
    I wonder if they've disabled somehow in the firmware

    • @techlike49
      @techlike49  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, I don't think they've disabled it in the firmware. According to the manual you can set a "Native ID" which has to correspond with the ID set in the Software. Maybe the boud rate is different or the endian is wrong. Both can also be set in the PSU settings.
      I guess you have installed the driver for your converter and selected the right Port in the Software.

    Hello. I opened recently a WPS3010H and instead of the header on the board there were 5 contact holes with in the vicinity a microcontroller with serial port. I connected the right contacts to the USB converter but there was no communication to and from the power supply. The USB converter works correctly with a terminal program (like Putty). Did you install this file "CH341SER(CH340串口驱动 ).EXE" ? Comes with the download of the software. Does this file take part in the communication you think? I tried to install it but the installation fails.

    • @techlike49
      @techlike49  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. The CH340 is a USB to Serial Chip. Depending on the USB converter you are using it has the ch340/ch341 or a different chip. You need the right driver for it and then it should work. I used a ch340 but got the driver from its manufacturer homage and didn't installed the exe from wanptek.

      Yeah I know, as the manual describes this option... I didn't disassembled it completely, just looked at the backside of the PCB. There are a set of four header holes that are aligned horizontally on the lower left side of the APS605H control board. That is where you need to solder your header. They are there -- I just completed soldering a recycled JST PH (2mm spacing) 4 pin socket with pins on the control board that I got from a dead HP workstation power supply. I also took the mating male connector and its wires to connect to the ttl to USB adapter I ordered from Aliexpress.
      See my note above for links to the that adapter board and the USB type 2 female cable assembly I ordered.

      Just noticed this comment after posting mine. My WSP305H has the new, downgraded board. In theory, the 5-pin programming connector with pins labeled RDGSV could be used for communication, as it outputs the MCU's UART pins. The problem is the firmware for the new board does not support remote control. The comm settings are present in the menu but they are not used. Pity that the nice unit was downgraded this way. I tried to talk to Wanptek store person - they simply say that they don't support remote control in units not already supplied with USB interface in factory. My plan was to mount USB-C UART module in a 3D-printed bracket. I already designed the bracket and made a proper English translation of Wanptek comm protocol description only to realize that I will have no chance to use it.

    The upgrade is no longer possible with the current mainboard used in WPS305H. Seems like the vendor decided so save 5 cents and made a new board with the new firmware, based on 20-pin Nuvoton 51 clone. There is no official information on the board being degraded that way. There is no comm connector onboard, the MCU programming connector outputs RXD and TXD lines but the firmware does not allow for communication any more. The firmware has the comm-related settings in the menu but they don't work and the speed setting is not stored (that's a method of recognizing that you have the new, "optimized" unit - try to change it from default 1 to any other value, save, turn on and off, enter the menu, it stays at 1). Not a single word was changed in the manual which describes the unit as capable of remote control. Really bad move by Wanptek.
