- This is a short video to show you how to improve the sound and give you more power at low revs with your existing exhaust on your MG TF. There is existing restrictions on the exhaust from the manufacturer but these are easy to overcome! This improvement will only take you 2 mins to complete! Really! Ok now I take no responsibility if you carryout this improvement! Also I have read that if you do this and do not replace the plug every few mints then the flap built into the exhaust can seize and will no longer work as standard if required!! You have been warned!
Be good if we could have heard the exhaust sound rather than the naff music overlay!!!
Brilliant, i was rebuilding my engine and noticed that valve on the exaust and wondered "what if" and then that evening i came across your video that confirmed my idea of unpluging it and now the car is back together it does sound brilliant.
Sounds better? Still have the car?
Pity you had music and not exhaust sound.
The unit you need to disconnect is the little box on the right as you look into the engine bay, it's under the cover for the engine where the roof attaches and is just on top of the wheel arch, it's quite easy to find and disconnect.
hello, I can't clearly see what to disconnect...
Just done it on my 135 - works a treat and souns great!!! Thanks a lot Joe. Will keep plugging it back in every other month though - Just to keep the value from seizing up! :) Cheers.
Watched the video several times.....and neither can I !!!
Yep it really works, mine is only a 135 but I believe that the only difference is the vvt on yours the exhaust is exactly the same, it is set so if the signal is
If I understand correctly, reconnect the plug and rev the engine a few times to check to see if it still works! Better still go under the boot and operate the mechanism/push-rod on the exhaust by hand, and if stiff, use freeing oil (simples lol).
Works perfect thanks
Cut then the exhaust is completely open so there s not too much back pressure at high revs, the only reason that the baffle is there is to reduce noise at low revs!!! Give it a try if you don't like it just plug it back in... Please come back and let me know if it works on the 160!!! Check that only one is working to start off with!!!!
I love how mg made the VCV so easy to disconnect, its right there asking to be dissabled, clearly mg hate the eu rules telling us what to do as much as the rest of us
Should have done a sound comparison.
I have owned mgs all my life and I am getting this exhaust reconnected tomorrow at my local garage I just wondered if my car will still pass the mot with this been done to it? Any ideas anyone
At low Revs and idle both my exausts are open by default, I have a Trophy 160...
I got tf 160 maybe I'll try this!
Wait, what?
Mine doesn't have this, both exhausts work right from the start.
So, it's broken? or had this done? or is this video B.S.?
"replace the plug every few mints" WTF? what is a mints??
What year and model is this fitted on please?
As a few said we don't need the "music"
and we didnt hear the exhaust noise in this vid......pointless
Once you have disconnected it forget about it and I love mints 😁
Seconds, just plug the connector back in!
