- Part 23 of a video walkthrough for Nancy Drew: Shadow at the Water's Edge. In this part, Nancy grades some homework, but most of her students fail miserably. Nancy also talks with Miwako and Takae. She then starts working on a nonogram puzzle.

Actually, I'm surprised at how insensitive Nancy is about the whole dead mother thing. I mean Nancy doesn't have a mother either. You think there would be, "I'm sorry" as an option at SOME point in the game.
The thing I never understood about this game is why didn't Nancy approach Miwako with the "Hey, my mother died when I was little,too. It's been a long time since I've met someone who knows how that feels, let's talk about it." It's a more compassionate and polite way to bring up Kasumi's death than "HOW DID YOUR MOM DIE????"
I'm late to reply, but I completely agree. If I can be completely frank, the way that Nancy carries herself throughout the game is completely rude, and I'm embarrassed for her. With the way she acts, it's no wonder that many people from other countries dislike Americans. Just because Nancy speaks well doesn't mean that she isn't rude and ignorant.
Miwako is TOTALLY right! Nancy 😡 DOES forget that she is a stranger and is NOT entitled to a straight answer. Especially on a very OBVIOUSLY sensitive topic. Plus Nancy acts like she isn't sorry for asking.
I do find that rather odd and interesting, especially since Nancy's mom herself died when she was young. I don't think she ever brings it up in the entire game...
Yeah but the place is losing business because their alleged hauntings, I agree it is a bit blunt but she's doing her job.
Yeah you’re totally right! Nancy is actually being so rude and insensitive with all the questions - this isn’t even a case that she’s supposed to be working on 😂 she needs a better angle because she actually makes everyone angry
I think what a lot of people don't understand is that Japan is VERY reserved. In polite conversation, such as that between host and guest, confrontation is decidedly avoided. So for Nancy, a guest at the ryokan, to show up and begin asking inappropriate questions about the inn keeper's deceased mother would be considered extremely rude. Not to mention the fact that Miwako's mother's memory is being used by tourists and ghost hunters as an attraction. I find her to be a very sympathetic character

I kinda have to agree with what she says at 1:58. The one thing I really disliked about this particular game is how obtuse and insensitive Nancy seemed to be. In the previous games she could be pretty sly about the dialogue if she really needed to figure something out, but in this game she was just really rude and overall very un-detective like. I mean, she's not exactly subtle with the way she's just pressing, and pressing and PRESSING for information without even trying to be polite.

In the way on how this whole case presents itself, it's mostly about Kasumi. The person who was the culprit, used Kasumi's name as a way, it was disrespectful. Because once someone dies, you should give that person respect in the name of the dead. Miwako did have every right to defend herself and defend her mother, but if my mother was dead, and someone was trying to bring out her "ghost" I think I would be mad and trying to get to the bottom of it. Nancy was only trying to help her in the end

Nancy does seem insensitive about Kasumi's death, but The Silent Spy hints that Nancy had been wanting to know the full story about her mother's death for years. I'm basing this on the fact that she always considered the fight her parents had beforehand strange, and the fact that she tried to talk her mom into staying despite not knowing the real reason why she left.
That could be why she keeps pushing, she believes that she'll feel better after she knows the truth behind her mom's death (and she turns out to be right) so she wants to help Takae, Miwako, and Yumi feel better about Kasumi's death (which turns out to happen).
Fumi is either very fluent in English, Or is using a translation website to get answers.
Anyway, my point is, I think it's kinda good they're realizing they can make things more scary and gruesome, it's not so much a restriction anymore now that they seem to be realizing that most girls ages 10 - 14 wouldn't play these games.
OH GOSH! It's the puzzle I've been dreading.
@Mollybeee123 You need to take the teapot from Takae's room (18) and then put it on the firepit late at night and put the envelope you got from the puzzle box in the steam and inside is the nonogram sheet. Hope that helps!
BTW: In case you don't know when to take the teapot, you go at 1am using the key that Yumi threw in the water(from the convo you heard on the sound thing) and open the door, go to the little 'gold' chest in the corner and it'll be in there.
When ever Takae says goodbye, it's like she's saying goodbye FOREVER! I almost expect her to say that and kill Nancy right then and there! LOL!
I think it's weird how Kasumi's sister thinks it's too far to visit her mother but then asks her MOTHER to come visit her.
I mean, I thought it was "too far." And who would make an elderly woman travel such a far distance when Kasumi's sister could just travel herself?
That makes no sense too me.
To make it less frusterating, you can save it, and take a break by either practicing smaller pieces of a nonogram, play some bento, or chat around. Then come back and do EVERYTHING Micheal tells you.
Oh and... try not to press the reset....

So Takae had another daughter...and she's too lazy to visit and didn't come to the funeral...can't you just feel the love? This family makes my head hurt!

ok just a hint very very funny( just if you dont know already) if you stand in the cultural room for a while, while Takae is still in there she will start to fall asleep and then look at you for a while
@LadyLatias You make a good point...... the games just arent as good as the earlier ones. I remember when i was seven and could play the games without nearly spooking myself haf to death.
I knew this part was going to take longer than one video. It took me about thirty minutes when I played. Hurry up and post the rest, will ya? (pretty please?)

@annah27 I ended up finding what I did wrong, there was a block that I had marked in that shouldn't of been. You can try going over each square to make sure you don't have an extra one marked in or one you missed.

@KonataIzumi99 yeah true, but i just have a gut feeling, but its probably just cause i like all the other characters, even miwako and yumi when theyre grumpy
@azulannslore I'm beginning to theorise that HerInteractive is realizing that the majority of people that play these games would be at least people in their mid or late teens as apposed to '10 years and up' as the box suggests.
The theme of this game and the next one (Captive Curse), what with all the rumors of torture and such, are also not ones I would normally see for a 'kids' game.
@hunnypot23 yeah i dont want it to be cause yumis my favorite character but she was still VERY suspicious. idk why but its like i KNOW its not rentaro. and from the beginning i always thought it was miwako but i HOPED it was takai cause i kinda liked everyone else but her cause she would just completely IGNORE half of the conversations nancy n her had

I'm at this puzzle now, I'm playing in Junior mode... I'm pretty sure I did it the same way you did but it's not doing anything. I mean it looks like what it's supposed to but I can't find any marks that are wrong.

@purplestreakpunk ya when the thing with the microphones, i think yumi wasint being the brat, miwaku was the brat....she just thinks she can get everything she wants at that nanosecond

What's the point in having characters at all if they aren't realistic or interesting? If you just like the puzzles, go play a hidden image puzzle or something.
is this the Senior or Junior version?
@azulannslore How are they not as good as the earlier ones because of that? Granted, I think since Curse of Blackmoor, the most of the games have been quite disappointing in terms of interesting or plausible storylines and hooking gameplay.
None of the games really interested me after Blackmoor, they weren't as good, HerInteractive outdid themselves with Blackmoor and with this one too.
Miwako is such a pain. I really don't like her. At first I was like, oh she's pretty and she seems nice, but now I'm like: HATE HATE HATE!!!!
U know the last colam u could have done because there is no where elts you colud have put the 15 with that X 10 spaces down. Sometimes i just wait to go over to where you live and just show you the things you could have done before some of the others.

@LadyLatias The sequels are just never as good as the originals. I just like the older ones, I'm not sayin the others are bad, just not classic. It's not the fact that they scare me half to death, they just, disappoint me. I like the books best anyway.
