We've never even seen him show look on his face to give an indication that he's trying once in the entire series.

Since then he's become a warlord laid back on his island and hasn't fought anyone stronger, or at all from what we've seen. Shanks back in the days had a 1 billion bounty and wasn't a yonkou. I know that bounty isn't a good indicator but there is no way that someone comparable to Kaido with a crew can walk with a 1 billion bounty in the new world, that's stupid...
So talking about Mihawk fighting Shanks 12 years ago doesn't mean shit when we know that Shanks became a yonkou 6 years ago and that his bounty quadrupled since his fights with Mihawk...
Frankly there is no way to know the power of Shanks or Mihawk right now.
Also the mental attack he did to greenbull and his ability to shut down observation haki are primordial reagrding his fighting style, and I think that we can agree that this shit has nothing to do with swordsmanship.

Narratively, it wouldn’t make sense that zoros final battle to become the strongest swordsman by beating the strongest swordsman wouldn’t be mihawk. If shanks really was stronger and better than mihawk oda would write it as so other wise zoro would have to beat shanks which sounds cool on paper but it would honestly be so out of the blue and is in my opinion bad writing
yeah it wouldnt make sense. and luffy beating shanks is on the way to his true goal. the title of great pirate is right before that pirate king title so luffy gonna beat shanks and be on his way to be the PK
Luffy proving he is stronger then shanks i would say is one of if not the biggest piece of his dream because it's the promise that initially steers him towards the rest of his dreams!

Silvers raleigh one of if not the strongest haki user in his prime trained shanks! So if his teacher is mainly a haki user it doesn't make sense to classify shanks as a swordsman! Shanks has repeatedly shown insane levels of mastery of all 3 haki's! most if not all of shanks's strongest feats come from his haki not his sword!

Shanks finds the one piece and destroys him. We've also never seen Mihawk use haki on the level of Shanks', so you can never count him out. Shanks was also able to keep Kaido out of Marineford, dont think Mihawk is doing that.

@@CADomainShanks wielding a sword and not being called the WSS is the only thing that mihawk fans hold onto, to say that he is stronger than shanks. By that logic, either Roger or Rocks have to be the WSS of their era, which has not been revealed in 25+ years of storytelling. So, shanks could still be stronger than mihawk. Also, mihawk is deemed superior than shanks in only sword skill, there is a clear emphasis on skill part. If oda wanted to portray mihawk being stronger than shanks, then he would have clearly stated "with strength surpassing even red haired" in 1058.

@@rdrummer2 in terms of swordsmanship mihawk is stronger, but he can still be weaker than shanks in other departments.Shank's feats in terms of haki has been insane. He is literally called the observation killer. Surpassing shanks is one of luffy's goal. So, imo zoro is not gonna be stronger than shanks.

Multiple times, it's been stated that Mihawk is the strongest swordsman in name and actuality. Multiple times Shanks has been compared to Mihawk as a swordsman, and Mihawk is the strongest swordsman. How hard is it to understand that Mihawk is just stronger than Shanks?
