    What a beautiful machine. I'm restoring a small dozer on my channel. I can't wait to drive it.

    I am from Jonesboro GA myself, watching this from Oregon ! I like the old 70s and 80s model JD equipment, it's the most common thing you see out on the farms in the country back home in GA. Lol, the comment below about using just the backhoe to take out this stump made me laugh, they obviously never ran any of this equipment. Great video :)

    And once again the John Deere triumphs over the stump. Good video.

    Nice dozer work. I miss the days of running them. Thank you for sharing your video.

    I ran one exactly like this in the late60 s, early 70s. This guy is doing a good job, he is a good operator. There are many ways to pull a stump. Use ehat you have.

      Thanks! I think he did a pretty good job, too, considering the size, weight, and depth of that stump. And thanks for watching!

      Did good considering its a huge stump and he has a smaller dozer

    Spend many an hour on a 450-B. Straight drive. Gears on the left side and lo-hi-n-rev on the stick in the floor. Foot clutch, no reverser. Good tractor.

      My dad had a 450-B when I was a baby. A lot of nights, the only way to get me to sleep was to take me out for a ride on the bulldozer. I don't remember the floor shifter, but he sold it when I was three or four.

    Should have taken the backhoe while your dad was pushing on it with the dozer and grabbed it with the back bucket and pulled it out, just a suggestion.... I worked excavation for a 11 years with my uncle and grandfather and we had to do that technique a few times to remove stumps from customers yards

    That's really a nice old 450 - I've got quite a bit of time on a small 350, often wished for a bit more weight and hp. Big stump - I'd have been inclined to drill a big hole down the center and touch off about 18-20 oz. of black powder before I dug into it. Surprised he moved that thing as well as he did.

    • @JameySaunders
      @JameySaunders  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, that's a pretty strong machine for its size. It could use another 5,000 pounds of weight. My dad had a 450B when I was a kid, and he said that you could easily stall the motor out. This one has the turbocharged engine, and you have to work really hard to stall it. The tracks will start slipping on the dirt before the engine stalls.

    Big stump for a 70 hp machine. Good work. I'd rather have dug it out but pushing it out is fine as well.

    • @JameySaunders
      @JameySaunders  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was pretty big. We really didn't have anything to dig it out with, so pushing it out was our only option. Thanks for watching!

    Taking the stump out is almost automatic when you leave the tree attached. We take out many with a JD 300 loader backhoe. The locust tree we just removed had a bigger stump than this one you had.

    When regrading to achieve the best final results the top soil is put in one pile and the subsoil in another.Fill the hole slowly with the subsoil and lift the stump up repeating the process. Then with the blades corner edge push and angle the blade removing the stump. Get extra soil from else where to replace the volume that the stump removal lost. Then take the top soil that was saved and finish the job creating new growth with all the original nutrients. ken b- Final Grade, "We set the grade for others."

    do you guys not know how to idle down before you shift gears? I mean that had to be ruff on the transmission

    • @JameySaunders
      @JameySaunders  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Seems rough to me too. When I drive, I don't go from forward to reverse in one motion, I pause in neutral. This dozer doesn't have a decelerator pedal. My dad had a 450B for years when I was little, and he used it to build four ponds, then rebuild two of them, and I can only assume he drove it just like he does here. That dozer held up, so apparently they're built for it. I'm going to be more moderate - I don't want to have to tell him I grenaded his transmission...

    For someone that thinks this is easy has never run equipment. This is good dozer work.

    • @JameySaunders
      @JameySaunders  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tend to agree. He's a little rusty - hasn't run one on probably 35 years at this point, but this was also a case of having to make do with what you have and having to do big work with too small a machine. Thanks for watching!

    I don’t know what POPS does for his day job but he should not be showing how NOT to remove a stump !
    First , if you can dig it out with the backhoe why not finish the job ??
    Second , if you just want to run the dozer Dig one tamp !
    Third , get up to the stump
    Get your old dumb ass out of the seat
    Forth , wrap a chain around the stump and pull it out !?!?
    Half the time
    Half the fuel
    Half the wear
    But you carry on POPS !

    • @JameySaunders

      I'm fairly sure that stump weighed in the neighborhood of 10,000 pounds. The bulldozer only weighs 14,000 pounds, plus the stump's tap roots went down at least 8 feet. It is actually a surprise to me that it pushed it out at all.

  • @theshadow1559
    @theshadow1559 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Personally, I think that dozers are not really suitable for removing stumps efficiently, the job calls for an excavator to save time and money.

    • @JameySaunders
      @JameySaunders  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Shadow You are correct, but at the time this was done we didn't have an excavator. We had to make do with what we had. We did eventually get a 20-ton excavator, but it would have had just as tough a time. It's old and weak, but works for what we need it for. Thanks for watching and subscribing!

    Why didn't you just burn it it the hole

    • @JameySaunders
      @JameySaunders  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We already had a burn pile, and it was in the place where my dad was moving his driveway to. Moving it was the quickest way to get the driveway graded off.

    • @nicholassmerk
      @nicholassmerk 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jamey Saunders Did you move the burn pile to the stump or move the stump to the burn pile. The last stump I burnt was a tiny one (~14" pine tree) that my neighbor was kind enough to pick out of the hole with a 7000lb excavator. It took quite a bit of effort to get a big enough fire to burn it up. I finally just lit a huge fire and watched it burn all day.

    • @JameySaunders
      @JameySaunders  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Moved it to the burn pile. It burned for a week or so.
