- In 2011, FBI agents found mobster James "Whitey" Bulger and his girlfriend Catherine Greig hiding out in Santa Monica, Calif. "60 Minutes" correspondent Steve Kroft reports on the FBI's 16-year manhunt for Bulger.
He's 81 and won the game. FBI showed up late and defeated .
He didn't "win" any game. He is still devastated that he's going to die in prison.
Hiding out, then dying in prison. If that's what you think is winning, I'd hate to see your idea of losing.

He was 81 and sentenced to life which is like, what? 10 years tops? Jimmy got away with it and played all of his cards right. This was probably one last middle finger to the FBI and how he could play them so well. Bulger got what he wanted out of life.
Check out the details of his death. The hitman-turned-convict left his face unrecognisable, just a gaping hole…I wouldn’t call this a winning hand.

I was reading an article the other night that said the payout was just for Catherine Greigs amount and Not Whitey's, but I believe CNN way more than that other article I was reading because the one I was reading was on a shady website I found on google. I thought they screwed the lady that found them over. Nice to know they really didn't. Hard to believe he remained on the loose for as long as he did. He still had the means to finish his life out on the run had that lady not recognized Catherine.

How the FBI caught him? It was a tip from a former Icelandic model, Anna Bjornsdottir, who lived part of the year in Santa Barbara and recognized Bulger and his wife Grieg from an FBI most wanted ad shown on Iceland tv. Anna Bjornsdottir also collected the $2 mil reward money for notifying FBI.
at that age...it is better to be caught than to die alone....in prison you get free meals, accommodation, and access to medical. As for freedom, at that age if you can walk 10 steps every direction that is freedom.
