You probably know this, but in case anyone reading doesn't know: a lot of sequencers have a feature called Track Delay or similar that allows you to slide tracks ahead or behind the timeline. If you give the hihats their own track, in Ableton Live the feature's button shortcut is on the right side of the screen: four small circles arranged vertically, and the bottom one marked "D" toggles the Track Delay to be visible or invisible. You will see the new controls appear, where you can offset the track by milliseconds or hundredths of a millisecond, so it's really easy to find the right swing or change your mind later.

Sometimes you can get so close to a piece of music that you lose perspective over whether it's truly unrecognisable or not. We've all recognised music on the first note, and you have to remember that. The relationship between little elements can give a source away, and vocal tones are notoriously recognisable so you really have to be careful with those.
