Amazing ! just the tutorial i needed at the right time . thanks I've never seen that technique of heating the plastic to bring back the colour , lucky I saw this video before I spray painted the bumpers as intended
@@jamesolelo4406 they are 5+mm thick extremely tough impact bumpers how is a bit of momentary surface heat going to make them brittle ? as I've already said the sun is heating them all day long for 6+ months of the year and they don't get brittle from that ........................at least mine haven't in the 27 years they have been on the van.
Love your vids mate but not sure about this one - surely drawing oil from bumper with heat is what causes them to degrade in the first place? Is it not better to keep the oils in the bumper by just adding more oils?
What about Charcoal Grey Plastics? (Ford Ka etc.) Obviously the heatgun will work but without protection the UV will dry out the plastics in literally a month....
Love your videos and have learnt a lot from you. I have a Vito van that had vinyl lettering on the sides. What do you recommend to remove all signs of them from the panels? I will be getting some of the products you have just shown they are really great.
Hi, Vinyl is commonly removed using gentle use of a heat gun, a plastic scraper and patience! Any sticky residue is removed with a solvent based liquid like white spirits, or brake cleaner or similar.
That’s a very long winded method plus it’s not a great way to try and raise the oils out of the plastic, makes it brittle. A better method which works perfectly is Forever Black. Have used it on all my campers and it’s lasts at least 6 months before needing a touch up 👌🏽👍🏼😉
I hate to burst your bubble but this does NOT work! I’m no dummy and can tell you the plastic comes out blotchy and here in Arizona, what little did kinda work looks like crap in very short time. Try boiled linseed oil. Look it up. Forget the heat gun.
There is something quite therapeutic about watching videos like this !!!
I’ve read in loads of places that the heat gun method leaches oils from the plastics, leaving them brittle.
Exactly. I did this and it looks doubly as shit a year later
Love the Roadkill Shirt!
some cracking hints, the heat gun reallly surprised me , great video :)
Thanks for your kind words Ian

Heating the plastic actually makes it brittle
@@jamesolelo4406 yes thats why they discolour and go brittle in the sun but this heating process is a very short carefully managed process which works
@@johncooper7242 and makes it more brittle.

Back to black spray, used that on my dads FX taxi for years.
That's amazing!! Who would think that a heat gun could work wonders like that!?

I agree.

How often is it recommend to reapply the “Black to the future” compound?
According to Valet Pro, every two to 3 months
Do you have to reapply the dressings? regularly?
Hi guys Could I do the same on my dashboard

Thank you for your advice. I will give it a try.
Nice vid liegh
Will this process work on grey bumpers and trim? I have a transit connect that has got seriously faded plastics.

congrats on 10K!
Thanks guys, just subscribed back ;)
@@CombeValleyCampers thanks we hope to hit 10k by november! keep up the good work!
Awesome, seems like great stuff!!! Love the vid 👍🤟🤟🤟
Let's see how it gets on with my ford transit!
And????
It's OK, but mine are dark grey but they need re doing every few months. It's not a permanent fix.
Great video as always 👌
I use deisel fuel with a old rag. Works for me.
How long does it lasts
I tried this last year. The result was nice but it doesn't last long in my case. Only a couple of months. It's back to looking as grey as me.
We shall be going over other, updated methods soon :)
Seen a few of your videos , great tips (I'm building a L4 H3 transit camper/race van)
Thanks lads , add 1 sub
am i the only person who recognised Leighs Stubby Bob t - shirt ??
or the Might Car Mods banner & key-ring ??
If I wanted to watch an advert, I’d watch an advert…..
That's not for grp bumpers tho.
Literally all you need to do is clean it with any cleaning product and then use a heat gun or blow torch
Not the heat gun method 😩 be folk bubbling their paint work !
Used the heat gun method and it ruined the bumper on my Boxer van. Waste of time imo.
This doesn't last long! An shows your path you took when the uv rays hit it

No disrespect but that bumper is shagged. Why not just replace it?
We are painting it next week ;)
