I’m so glad I found your tutorial! My daughter received a beautiful large trivet for her bridal shower and I was always looking for an instructional video how to make one. Yah, I found yours!!! Thank you!!!
I can NOT thank you enough for posting these video's. My sister and I have always done projects like this and now we have a new one to do. Our husbands have already made the looms, we are getting our fabric strips ready, and when it's safe for us to get together, we look forward to spending some sunny afternoons on the back deck at her house weaving some rag rugs. Keep up the good work!
This process is genius! Your single twining weave method for the weft is sooo much easier to do than traditional weaving with a shuttle and all that yarn. You have rekindled a long dormant love of textile weaving in me--too many frustrating projects on a 4 harness loom and badly designed portables. Thank you for sharing the many versions of this technique using various wefts.
Just wanted you to know how much I love these hot pads! I've made more than 10 so far. My goal is to use up my fabric. My husband loves them and uses them all the time. They go through the wash just fine. I've made some for gifts but too often I fall in love with the color combinations and can't part with it! My husband is going to build the larger loom for rugs. Can't wait to start that project.
I want to do a rug but I really think I should start with this to get a good feel for the process. I'll have my husband make the loom tomorrow and I'll start getting fabric scrapes together. So glad I stumbled onto this. I also subscribed. Since I'm a quilter (sometimes, {lately making more mask }then quilts) I have lots of scrapes. I really like projects I can do in car while traveling, so this should be great. Thanks so much.
Amazing! I have so many scrap, random pieces of material and have never known how to make them into something so beautiful and useful. I was being swamped by the thought of all that material! So a million thanks!
Kindly show and make more project with plastic grocery bag so that we can help to recycle ♻️ the project and help environment to save as I like your way to teach how to make it from Jean fabric and all
Terrific video as are the ones on the rug and the loom. (Making potholders for my family this Christmas.) With the potholder, was hoping to make a loop on the edge. Any suggestions? Thanks, your videos are extremely well done.
That is a great idea to add that. I would probably take a strip, keep 4"+ long tails and thread it in the corner and tie a loop with a standard knot. Then thread the long tails into the weaving. If you try it, let me know how it goes!
Slow the video to half speed, it’s in the settings and then you can see exactly what she’s doing. I was having trouble following what she was doing until I did that.
I'm in the UK I was taught to weave a rug just under and over and have only done twinning by accident. I was told its easier to start one end, do so much then start at other end of loom working towards the middle. That way you can really squish work towards ends and use needle to make centre tight. Doing a twinned rug watching your clips you don't do that but work from top to bottom, is tere a reason why? Your rugs are lovely and you are good teacher Thanks Ruth
Thanks! I have actually tried both, and they are equal to me! I think working from both ends is easier on your back and arms. I went from both ends in this video th-cam.com/video/1i-VJL9pUeU/w-d-xo.html
i been wanting to make a loom, the plastic potholder ones from the store are junk. HOWEVER, I know yours are hotpads. but how well do you think the design will do when grabbing cast iron pans, HOT!? Thanks for great videos!
Do you mean how the fabric holds up? They are cotton and don't melt. They are thick - so more of a trivet. I have made cotton string ones using a pin loom. Here is how we build the loom th-cam.com/video/ZgtiwYdOO1E/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Bzyp55zT_9lFBMB4 and here is how to make the potholder th-cam.com/video/w1Ti5uYU1vo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=5vE3UrAoHeEsM_ed. Have fun!!
I love this! Thank you for sharing! Question about the material...can I also use some material that stretches? Or should I stick to cotton, linen and those kinds?
Ciao Gaby❣
Yes!! I did a video on how to weave a table runner th-cam.com/video/iYCa3FHPxEg/w-d-xo.html and did another on how to join two together th-cam.com/video/skwqTcOQPgg/w-d-xo.html -- they sky is the limit!!
When ppl are doing the recycled plastic bags on their looms they are using just one loop instead of 2. Can u tell me why? They are also using one continuous string of bags using a peg loom. I gave ur hubby’s video on how to make a loom. He made it then I saw you use 2. Different pieces (color). So I have a loom like yours but want to do it with recycled bags. Thank you so much for clear instructions. Thank you in advance if you are able to answer me!!
One piece of plastic should make it plenty thick. I used two so that the rug would be thicker and I could get a different color variation with the two. On my table runner video, I just use one strand of yarn, which would be similar to what you would be doing. th-cam.com/video/iYCa3FHPxEg/w-d-xo.html Let me know how it turns out!!
Once you start between the loops, you will continue with those two warp strips between your weaving -- at the end, when you get ready to finish, you need to go back between the loops to secure it off. If that doesn't make sense, let me know, and I will try to explain it differently. Thanks!
@@DIYOnTheHouse yes I saw that you started with between the loops (splitting the nail). But at the end you had somewhere along the line gone to not splitting the loops because you had to go back to that to seal off the end. So when did you change? Does that make sense?
What am I missing? You start between the gap under the nail, but that changes at some point because at the end you have to swap back to going under the nail.
HELP! I wanted to do a pattern, so I did a few rows and then turned it to twine. Now after a few rows I see that when I get to the middle my rows are not going to match
The warp I estimate probably 1/3 of a yard. For the weaving, maybe 1 to 1 1/2 yards. It depends a lot on how tight you push up your rows. Hope that helps!
You always have two strips - here is a video that might show it in better detail: th-cam.com/video/9vQYk1WP3WE/w-d-xo.html -- let me know if you have more questions! Have fun!

@@sherryseiden8408 Maybe some day - right now we are not set up for that! But we have talked about it!
Have you made a loom for placemats for the table? I would love to be able to make placemats and matching trivets.

Do these get stringy and messy of washed?
Not at all! It is such a tight weave - they wash up wonderfully!
Can you use a twine for the warp?
Of course - that would work well!
I seem to be having long rows of same color...when I add another strip, I add a different color...am I just making my strips too long.?
Sounds like it - try shorter strips and see how it looks!

DIY On The House yes mam I watched it but just wanted to be sure. Thank you so much!!
When do you switch from between the loops to on the outside of the loops?

Should you prewash your fabric is using new scraps?
I don't prewash mine. I think if some were to shrink it would add to the texture. If want to prewash for color bleeding, that might make sense.
👌👍geweldig weer!!
HELP! I wanted to do a pattern, so I did a few rows and then turned it to twine. Now after a few rows I see that when I get to the middle my rows are not going to match
If you want to email me pictures, I will see if I can help. diyonthehouse@gmail.com
How do you stop thread fraying?
It will fray no matter what - some fabrics worse than others. If it frays a bunch, I usually change my mind and don't use that fabric.
Would you be able to give a rough estimate of how many yards of fabric are needed?
The warp I estimate probably 1/3 of a yard. For the weaving, maybe 1 to 1 1/2 yards. It depends a lot on how tight you push up your rows. Hope that helps!
@@DIYOnTheHouse Ok, great, thank you!!
Why don’t you make your fabric balls with a center pull?

Très bien expliqué mais combien de cm entre les clous svp?
1 cm - 1.25 cm
Why do you have to use 2 strips at the sametime time! ?Hard to see which is going where using 2 !
