This was by far not a "cult " film, it was a summer blockbuster in 1976. It always had a following. The money that this money made by 20th Century-Fox, financed the making of Star Wars for the summer of 1977. Lol
The priest, Father Brennan, is played by Patrick Troughton. He was in a lot of movies and TV shows. A lot of people best remember him as the Second Doctor in Doctor Who from 1966-69.
A lot of good actors in this film. The photographer is played by David Warner, who played very interesting roles in two time oriented movies, Time Bandits and Time After Time.
I only just learned he was in Dr Who. I was not interested in any Dr Who but Tom Baker, but I think Troughton is going to tempt me back for the first time.
Well, props to that guy in the middle on getting the jackal being his mother bit, because few other people do. THAT 's something that often goes right by the heads of most other people who watch/react to THIS flick. Guess it's just so freaky and bizarre that it's beyond the limits of their imaginations or something.

I saw this on HBO in 1977 when I was 7 years old, and it scared the hell out of me. This film has aged well. The sequel Omen 2 is one of the few times in movie history that a sequel is worthy to the original. What makes this film scary is that it plays on phycological fear, but it also has the visual effect and soundtrack to back up fear. All in all it's a scary horror flick!
I likewise saw it on tv about the same time about the same age. Absolutely terrifying, gave me nightmares. Same thing for Omen 2, whenever it was on tv. I probably saw that one when I close to the age of Damien. Really scary.

@@IanFindly-iv1nl True. I find that weird, though. I was 8 or 9 when I watched Omen for the first time, and it was the first horror movie I've ever seen. Still, the 'his mother is a jackal' bit was quite clear to me. Maybe the modern audience views things from another angle somehow.
When you asked “Who Is This Guy?” for the priest. I yelled out “IT’S THE DOCTOR” Patrick Troughton played second Doctor from Classic Doctor Who (my favorite show).
Growing up with the 3rd and the 4th doctors, it took me a long time to realise HOW GOOD Patrick Troughton was as the Doctor. He had an immense task of convincing that a show could survive its main character having an actor change. It pulled it off masterfully.
The film was incredible and still holds after all these years. Lee Remick ( a great actress of the 60s ) always wanted a chance to play a part with Gregory Peck and got her wish with this film. The music score, composed by Jerry Goldsmith, won Jerry his one and only Oscar after several nominations. The Hayes Code ended in 1968 which brought in the rating system after the graphic violence was shown in the film "Bonnie & Clyde."

The evil nanny gave the mom her references. It’s safe to assume that there was an evil disciple planted at the agency, to verify the evil nanny’s being there. This movie was super scary back in the day. It was a huge hit in 1976.
If you liked Gregory Peck’s acting, then you have got to see To Kill A Mockingbird. He portrays the part of Atticus Finch, the town lawyer defending Tom Robinson, a black man, during the 1930s in the Deep South. It is a five star film!
I like all 3 films in the Omen trilogy. They got progressively worse as the first was great and the third was just okay, but all 3 films are worth a watch.
I have a box set. It's so weird. There's an empty slot where the fourth film was, but it's empty! 😂 it's always been empty. Trust me. I think it went to the same place as my Highlander 2 DVD case. 😅😊😂
The Omen is a true classic, I saw it as a 9 year old in the theater way back in 76 and it is an experience that stayed with me. The sequel is very good too but anything after that especially the shitty remake avoid like the plague.Great reaction, you guys have great comments and banter, keep up the good work!
A ‘cult’ classic is a movie that wasn’t very big or noticed or did poor box office at its release but overtime the movie has become beloved and gained a substantial following over time. The Omen was a major release and a hit from the beginning. A better example of a cult classic would be ‘The Big Lebowski’ or ‘The Princess Bride’ or even ‘This Is Spinal Tao’
over the years the phrase "Cult classic", has been redefined, to mean any film that may be old but hasnt lost its interest, or it's reputation especially for a young modern audience, such as this one.
"Carrie" starring Sissy Spacek and written by Stephen King, was also released in 1976. It was a smash hit. The film also costarred a young John Travolta.
Great reaction of a very good horror movie. The sequel is definitely worth a watch if you're curious about the continued story. It was another instance where they didn't overdo it with the Damian character. Other horror movies from around time that are good with building atmosphere and suspense like the Omen are Carrie, Salem's Lot, The Howling, and Invasion of the Body Snatchers ('78)
Gregory Peck's performance in this movie is even more incredible when you know the fact that his real life son took his own life shortly before shooting it.
I saw this movie when it was released. I took my 15 yo little sister, and just when the guy was decapitated I grabbed her shoulder and she let out a bloodcurdling scream. 😂
Part of the shock of this movie was the cast. Lee Remick and Gregory Peck almost always played the upstanding all american types. This was so against type at the time.
Omen 2 is a must watch. Omen 4 has always had mixed reviews. A lot of people think it was one film too far. I actually quite liked it. It's definitely not on the level of 1 and 2, probably mostly because by the time it came out in 1991, a lot of the supernatural horror tropes were commonplace and had lost a lot of their impact on the audience.
I Love The Omen III: The Final Conflict starring the great Sam Neil from Jurassic Park! It's more of an adult theme. Much more based in religious dogma. The final battle between the sons of Satan and God. Trust me. It deserves a showing or a rewatch.
Most definitely watch Omen 2 and Omen 3, I'm sure you will find them absorbing and entertaining. I felt both were worthy sequels and do a great job continuing Damiens' Story as a teenager in Omen 2 and as an adult in Omen 3.

My mom accidentally drank some holy water one time. That was, like, 80 years ago and she's still with us, so I guess she's not a demon. Or a vampire. On the other hand, one time I was in Borneo and just looked at a rogue macaque monkey who was known to attack visitors, and he slunk away into the forest. So maybe I'm a demon? 🤔😏😵💫

Patrick Troughton (the marked priest who was impaled by the falling church steeple) was the second Dr Who (when Dr Who used to be good) after William Hartnell (the first Dr Who).
I think it would be worth it to watch the Omen 2 at least- it gives you a better scope of how far a reach his followers have. It also shows that inner battle and in Damien (good vs evil). But there is a recent parody of this and Rosemary’s Baby- called “Little Evil” hilarious
this isnt a Horror film. rather it's a super natural political thriller, the music should be very good, its by Jerry Goldsmith who has scored- STAR TREK, BASIC INSTINCT, LEGAND, THE SHADOW & many others (he won an Oscar for THE OMEN) which is based on a religious chant, but also using an orchestral sound as well. if you like curse type films you should watch- Village of the Damned, Night of the Demon, & Don't look now.
Actually, contrary to popular belief because of this film and because it sounds superficially similar to "Demon" people associate Damian with evil but it actually just comes from the Greek Damianos which means "To tame". What do you do with a beast?
I read the book after seeing The Omen film & the thing that got me as a 9year old (mainly exposed to Universal & Hammer films at this point of my life) was although there isn't many people dieing compared to a lot of horror media those that did we knew as the audience that they were going to be killed several chapters before & despite all their efforts could do nothing to prevent their fate - something that was later used through the Final Destination franchise. I enjoyed your reaction gents & the next sequel is just as good & will watch if you decide to react to it. I thoroughly recommend "The Boys From Brazil" - also starring Gregory Peck & is of a similar tone & quality to The Omen. 🌞🤔🎥😎🙌👍
you need to watch the series. very good. Anti-christ builds his empire. Jurassic Park Sam Neill as the antichrist. the 'disturbing' feel amplifies through the story. Another creepy Peck movie is "The Boys From Brazil'.
Damien means “tame” and is a traditional Catholic name because of Saints Cosmo and Damien (who were a set of identical twins…perhaps the scriptwriter chose the name because Damien is the double or replacement for the couple’s actual child who died at birth). But due to the Omen movies the name Damien has picked up a sinister reputation. This movie also popularised 666 which was not much of a talking point among American Christians before the 70s. Of course, the oldest scroll of the book of Revelation said the number of the Beast is 616. 666 is a copyist error…a medieval typo that has become normalised into scripture. But its still a really good film
Great, great film. Omen II next. Not nearly as good, but still very entertaining. P.S. The kid with the glasses is annoying. Everyone thinks they are a comedian.
I BELEIVE THAT YOU WILL ENJOY, THE SKELITON KEY, WITH KATE HUDSON AND GENA ROLAND, ITS SCARY AND IT WILL HAVE YOU THINKING , " WHAT IF THIS HAPPENED TO YOU"
From IMBD: The biggest problem with shooting with Mrs. Baylock's ominous dog was that the animal was nothing like the creature he was supposed to be portraying. He wanted to lick and play with his co-stars rather than threaten them.
It is justified why the priest doesn't tell Thorn anything useful, he's on very high levels of morphine due to cancer. That also explains why he doesn't dodge that falling rod even though he has a minute or two to do so.
Just saw your reactions to The Omen. Please see the Omen II. It is every bit as good as the original. Scary to a fault 😮😊. Pay no attention to the ratings about this movie. Lots of goosebumps!! Sincerely. Long time fan of the channel.
AWESOME Jerry Goldsmith score. Conducted by Lionel Newman. Orchestrated by Arthur Morton. Performed by The National Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus. I tend to favor his score to the sequel, "Damien: Omen II" more though. Of course his score to "The Final Conflict" is absolutely AMAZING.
Cult Classic is a movie or TV show that was not very popular when it came out but found a devoted audience that loves it. Firefly is a good example, as are Rocky Horror Picture Show, Space:1999, Red Dwarf, Labyrinth, Rosemary's Baby, Legend, Fifth Element. Babylon 5, Star Wars and Star Trek back in the day, but they have moved beyond being a Cult Classic.
@@miller-joel It was very successful because of all the hype around it and all the FOMO. It didn't really have a real fan base for many years, as can be seen by the huge drop off in Empire and Return viewership. It was the realm of geeks and nerds for a while. If you were a "Star Wars" fan as a teenager when it came out, you were "A NERD!!!"
@@miller-joel That is your own conditional. In that case NOTHING is a cult classic because everyone has probably heard of all the currently accepted "cult classics" So, let's leave this at, you have your opinion of the definition and qualifications of what a "cult classic" is and I have mine and they are not intersecting.
You would know that the guy taking the photos at the birthday party, was a photographer, if you actually watched the film, without talking all the time, and wise cracking all through it!
Thanks for the SPOILER. Lots of people have never even heard of the movie (or the book) even though both were big hits back in the day. Gotta get that ego boost though.
The hayes thingy about movies having to end nicely, wouldn't have applied anyway, as it was made by a partnership between the USA and the UK, 20th Century Fox in both countries. By the way, 666 is the incorrect number
A movie can be popular and reach a cult status, it just means the followers are loyal to the movie almost like a cult, where u just follow loyally and without a doubt.
Loved the final thoughts discussion. Michael wants to see a sequel and I think you should really give "Damien-Omen II" (1978) a shot. Not as good as the first but definitely a worthy sequel! The third move, "The Final Conflict" (1981) is the weakest of the trilogy but it has its moments and SAM NEILL (Jurassic Park, Event Horizon) is sinister as an adult Damien. The fourth one, "The Awakening" (1991) was a made-for-TV money grab and repeats the original story but with a little girl. Not good. The 2006 remake is almost beat-for-beat copy but it's not terrible. Liev Schreiber (Scream, Ray Donovan) and Julia Stiles (Save the Last Dance, 10 Things I Hate About You) star as the married couple. Damien is 2016 TV series that ignores all sequels and tells the story of Damien after the first movie.
It was mostly a good movie, but there were some notable shortcomings. The worst one was the scene where the photographer gets decapitated - showing his head spinning around in mid-air, spraying blood in slow motion, was totally unnecessary and gratuitously gory. It was vile.
So The Omen is Trending again, This film came out as Generation X was coming to a close and Generation Next was around The Corner, I'm Gen X. Yeah 2023 WOOSH BOOM, It Flew like the Concord. Ralph Bakshi Films are Cult Classics, Carrie is a Cult Classic, The Exorcist is a Cult Classics, Gremlins is a Cult Classic Films that were Poorly Received When they came out but have Garnished love over the years are Cult Classics, It's a Wonderful Life is a Christmas Cult Classic. Nah there are only 3. Any other Omen films have been Disavowed by this Reviewer. Richard Donner's first time in the Director's Chair, Superman and The Goonies came later. FYI Richard Donner did not see this as a Horror Film but as a Psychological Thriller, If he had seen it as a Horror Film He would not have made it, and wouldn't ask The Crew and Actors to get on board with it,And it would be an entire different film. Robert Thorn's Child Died on the 6th Hour of The 6th Day of the 6th Month, And Damien was Adopted. And Damien has a Triple6 Birthmark in his hair. 76, in 78 we got Superman. Yeah it's a Catholic Hospital, The Thorn's are Catholic. Harvey Stevens was 5 when he got the role of the Antichrist, but he looks 2, so you can meet in the Middle and say 3. No it's just a Toy Dog with Wheels, They were Popular in the 70s. I had 1. You couldn't get away with that fool around line in today's Society. It was the 70s, things were safer back then. Yeah That's the Back Yard. Wealth, am I right? It's just like The Ending Scene of Annie (1982), When Warbucks Hires a Circus for the 4th of July. "IT'S ALL FOR YOU DAMIEN!" You guys didn't see that coming, The first Scene I ever saw of The Omen is when she hangs herself. Didn't see the film in it's entirety until 1996. And when I did see I knew what was going on, Damien is The Antichrist. Popperazzi weren't as frowned on back then as they are today, And it's Keith's Photos That give rise to The Photos in Final Destination that show how someone is going to Die, You can thank Richard Donner for that. He was gonna say his mother was a Jackal, but he got interrupted, so it came out his mother was a Jack. Damien is Freaking out Because his Ancient Enemy Runs The Church. Richard Donner Took one of The Monkey's Babies, And that's why They Attacked The Car. You Don't need a Dark Room anymore, Not after the Digital Revolution and Card Stock. You'll find out what that line is, It's his Final Destination. Megedo Refers to Armageddon. The Lightning Rod went behind Patrick Throughton for The Impaled Priest Scene, Pretty cool eh? Yeah this is where Mom Dies, Lee was Actually afraid of heights and to get around That Richard Painted the wall to look like a Floor, with painted Sardines Glued to it, and Fake Plants with Wires Pointing out, While Lee was Standing on a Rotating Platform to give the Illusion she was Falling, And when The Fishbowl Broke Richard Scooped up the Fish so it wouldn't Die, he was big in Animal Rights. It's time to pay what is owed. Yeah I keep forgetting she survives The First fall at home, and is Killed by the Second fall at the Hospital. when it came to the Decapitation of Keith, Richard knew that Audiences would close their eyes for the Count of 3, So he just added a few Extra Seconds So people would see it. And 30 year old Donald Trump was his Godfather. Final Scene Harvey was Directed To look Grumpy, and not to Smile or Laugh, otherwise Richard would never talk to him ever again. But That Ending Grin combined with Jerry's Score Sells it. He's Smiling at you, he knows your watching him. By 76 The Hayes Code was dead and The MPAA Ruled The Cinema, And now The MPAA is dead And the MPA Rules The Cinema. This film has 2 Sequels, Nothing exists after The Final Conflict. Jesus Returns The End. Oh Your right Harvey Stevens didn't do anymore Theatrical Releases after this. The Only Place you see The Upside down Cross is The Poster, It's The Shadows of the Crosses. This is a great Psychological Thriller, They don't make em like this anymore. Gregory Peck was in Roman Holiday (1953) , Moby Dick (1956), Moby Dick (1998) was the last thing he worked on. His Filmography as an Actor Spans from 1944-1998. with 58 Titles under his belt including The Omen (1976). You Should put Something like This😈👿👹👺 in your Title, just a thought.

In my opinion, 1976 was one of the best years in the 70s for films.
Damiens mother was a jackal the animal in the grave.
The guy in the grey T-shirt is very perceptive. I liked his reaction.
The little boy who played Damion plays a photographer in the newer version!
Love Grandma Debbie
😯😯😯
this isnt a Horror film.
rather it's a super natural political thriller, the music should be very good, its by Jerry Goldsmith who has scored- STAR TREK, BASIC INSTINCT, LEGAND, THE SHADOW & many others (he won an Oscar for THE OMEN) which is based on a religious chant, but also using an orchestral sound as well. if you like curse type films you should watch- Village of the Damned, Night of the Demon, & Don't look now.
Great film. Glad you all enjoyed.
you need to watch the series.
The Rottweiler dog became very popular after this film 🐾🐾 *Omen 1, 2 & 3* are definitely worth watching!
Great, great film. Omen II next. Not nearly as good, but still very entertaining. P.S. The kid with the glasses is annoying. Everyone thinks they are a comedian.
Saw your FULL react on Patreon ..great ! ...( I watched this in theater when released) I want GREGORY PECK'S VOICE!...("12 OCLCK HIGH")
Not a cult film! Omen made so much money it paid for Star Wars!
You should watch Damien: Omen 2 and The Omen 3 : The Final Conflict
Have you seen Gregory Peck as Captain Ahab in "Moby Dick" yet?
There's also a spy thriller movie, "Arabesque", with him that I'd recommend.
Great movie! I think the second one may be better! Thanks guys
Great classic!!! Creeping towards 10k!!
Mrs Thorn glared at the nanny in the beginning because she was posing with Damien for a photographer.
Great watch guys, next...The Omen 2! 😈
It is justified why the priest doesn't tell Thorn anything useful, he's on very high levels of morphine due to cancer. That also explains why he doesn't dodge that falling rod even though he has a minute or two to do so.
Trilogy Trilogy Trilogy Trilogy Trilogy Trilogy Trilogy Trilogy!!!!
The TV series Good Omens and the book by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman was a parody of this movie.
"To Kill a Mockingbird" with Peck
Just saw your reactions to The Omen. Please see the Omen II. It is every bit as good as the original. Scary to a fault 😮😊. Pay no attention to the ratings about this movie. Lots of goosebumps!! Sincerely. Long time fan of the channel.
I think movies like this one are part of the reason I don't want kids XD
Also, now that you've seen this, you can watch Good Omens. So much fun ;)
Yes!
Liev Schreiber and Julia Stiles were in the 2006 remake..
@@miller-joel When Star Wars FIRST came out, it had a niche fanbase that grew over the years. Just like the other two franchises I mentioned.
In that case NOTHING is a cult classic because everyone has probably heard of all the currently accepted "cult classics"
So, let's leave this at, you have your opinion of the definition and qualifications of what a "cult classic" is and I have mine and they are not intersecting.
@@miller-joel One of those, "I am right, and you are wrong look it up!!", internet people. Enjoy your trifling life dude. I am done with you.
You would know that the guy taking the photos at the birthday party, was a photographer, if you actually watched the film, without talking all the time, and wise cracking all through it!
Okay watch Rosemary's Baby next. Classic film. Another Son of Satan tale.
The priest is the same one from Rome and it's mother was a jackel
Megiddo the city destroyed in ancient time , city of Armageddon..
You should watch the sequel The Omen 2. It is very good, I think it is better than The Omen 1
Yes it’s my favourite part.
A movie can be popular and reach a cult status, it just means the followers are loyal to the movie almost like a cult, where u just follow loyally and without a doubt.
Damien Omen 2 is good, after that it sucks.
My fave is the third film.
It was mostly a good movie, but there were some notable shortcomings. The worst one was the scene where the photographer gets decapitated - showing his head spinning around in mid-air, spraying blood in slow motion, was totally unnecessary and gratuitously gory. It was vile.
The Devil’s child will rise from the world of politics. LET’S EXAMINE: Damien Thorne……DT Donald Trump……DT 🤔🤔🤔
Gen X should have grown up with this movie
We did
A jackel is an evil dog
check out the ( The Fouth Kind ) next and see what you Think.
It is a biography about how Donald Trump came to be
Can you please watch and react to the remake that was made in 2006 with Liev Shrieber and Julia Stiles. It wasn't a bad remake.
watch the second and third plz
Wish you guys would stop coming off screen, and commenting every one minute, so off putting.
Kid on the left is super annoying and disrespectful. Id k him tfo.
