    Feedback from Adam, former IELTS examiner @IELTSBandUp: "I couldn't give O. more than a 7 for fluency. I know his topic development was amazing, but his speed was just too deliberate. That said, I would never criticise anyone for giving him an 8. For the 4 areas, I'd give him 7 9 8 9 with an overall score of 8.5"

      Ma'am, may I ask if the over usage of filler words such as "uhm" affects the overall score for speaking?

      I had my speaking exam today and I'd love to thank you for all your videos! The exam wasn't that bad but I think I was talking too fast even though examinator didn't tell me that... anyway, my questions in Part 1 were about do i study or work then how my study day looks and what should be changed to improve my learning; then costumes, dressing up now and in childhood and what was the last occasion when I wore a costume and about driving a car and do you prefer front or back sit. Part 2: I had to describe an organization that employs a lot of people so I talked about charity organization which I belong to (there are volunteers and employees too so I think it wasn't wrong answer) and then Part 3 questions about why young people cant find a job, what should be changed to allow them to find a job easier, what government should do for unemployed people and are low-paid job attractive for someone without any other option.

    He was absolutely fantastic. He used all the linking words and had good vocabulary. Kudos 8.5 well deserved 👏👏👏. To those saying he deserves 6 watch again and take notes. Hesitation is good to help you collect your thought as long as it's not excessively long😓

    • @upmyieltsuk6434
      @upmyieltsuk6434 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, hesitation here is a real problem and it affects his fluency score and pronunciation. He is nowhere near Band 8.5. The problem here is also that this is nothing like a real IELTS speaking exam so it's difficult to give him an IELTS band score.

    Just took my Ielts exam on 12th June, in Brazil. 1st part: Do you work or study? Why did you chose this field? What you dislike about your job? Do you like to read? Where? 2nd part: Describe an important conversation that you remember well. Who/when/where/why is important. 3rd part: What young people talk about? Are they going to change the topics in the future? Why? Is in-person communication important? Why?

    It’s a really different exam posted ... there are two parts of this exam first from your point of view the patience was immense as the listening sounded quite boring and secondly from the examinee side he was so calm using good language and remained close to context may be so he got 8.5 , I believe he had many hesitations , if this was being taken by Indian examiners I am sure he would have been given a 6 or 6.5 straightaway ..... its a really nice post from u Asiya ... hope many will learn a lot from it ...

      Its one of the funny things about these sorts of tests since a lot of native speakers will say um and ah all the time but it's not really desirable to do. Also expressions like you know or like - again not very proper but its very normal for English.

      There are four parts to the IELTS marks scheme:
      Fluency and Coherence.
      Lexical Resource.
      Grammatical Range and Accuracy.
      Pronunciation.
      All of these are scored out of 9 and the average will be your overall score for speaking.

      He did hesitate a bit, so fluency is between Band 7 and 8, but the rest was Band 9. You can see a comment from an examiner pinned at the top. Try to record yourself and listen to your answers to understand your performance and identify areas for improvement. Good luck!

    Hello , I had speaking test today and I did it well , everything was ok I mean the fluency, gramer and other aspects but one think that I am veryyyy worried about is I kinda gave a wrong answer to the second part . The question was like that : describe something that your family keeps in your home . And I said they keep a habit of celebrating and gathering my friend from when I was 4 years old....how stupid I was !!! That was something spritual and not physical and I don't know why I gave that answer....the examiner asked some question about keeping objects that remind us of the past in the third part of speaking and I answered them in the best way possible I just think that the second part will affect my score ...do you think they would just ignore it or maybe take it easy on me ??!! Please answer me
