Chad, I spent three years stationed in San Diego and in all my years have never experienced more jack wads than while fishing the San Diego lakes. Without even looking at you folks would pull up less than a couple boats lengths in front of you and just start fishing like you are not even there. This was a regular occurrence. Man, I sure was glad to finish that tour and get back to the South where folks still have some restraint and display courtesy to each other.
I’m here in Southern California and it seems like after Covid hit and guys new to fishing hit the waters etiquette flew out the window. I’m out 5-8 times a month and it happens to me almost every time out.
Last week i was crappie fishing, anchored on a brushpile and this powerboat rolls up 30 feet from me and starts pitching there bobbers 5 feet off my bow. Then they get all pissed at me for videoing them and telling them to smile your on youtube.

Was on Leech Lake MN a few weeks ago and had a fishing boat troll in and spot lock right where I was casting my jig for 30mins straight catching walleye. Leaned over and told my brother on the next cast I'm putting it in his boat... Almost hit the dude in the forehead, I stopped the spool and pulled back just in time for it to stop and plop down just inches from his boat. Normally conversation would ensue, but his trolling motor scrolled 90deg and he scooted outta there. Have fished the Oconto where it's like bumper cars without problem, but some guys will act like they just don't want you to catch fish in situations like this.
A pro fisherman cut 50’ in front of me and took the structure i was working towards during a FLW tournament. It was a small area that we wont even enter if another boat is already in there.
Chad it seems that people with larger boats have no respect for kayakers. This happened to me on the Susquehanna river last week. He said I was in the seam he needed to go through. The river was a half mile wide with many other seams.
I was on the lower part of the Flint this afternoon. Had a large group, like 10, jet skiers come barreling through. Not even one broke throttle. There were a few other yaks fishing (they were in a N Al tourney). All commented it was a very disappointing day for common courtesy on the water.
Thanks. I wasn’t looking for a confrontation. I did a follow up video to say that i could Have done better but trust me, there is no reason that boat should have done what he did. Like I said in the follow up video, I could Have reacted better, but with how close this guy got and the circumstances of it I could have also been justified in reacting much worse. Thanks for your response and I can see where you are coming from based on the context of this video and again, that’s why I did the follow up. Appreciate y’all
It's getting pretty common to encounter people with no fishing etiquette. The other day I was fishing a stretch of bank to the left and to the right of me. With over 100 ft. of open bank and no one else around, 2 older guys decide to set up 10 feet beside me and throw out 2 poles each where I was fishing the rocky bank to the left where I previously caught a 3lber chasing herring. After I caught a couple 2lbers off a laydown, they pick up move to the laid down tree I was fishing to the right. Just this morning I went out to the same spot hoping for some solitude and a freakin boat of 2 troll up, completely cut me off and start fishing the spots I am. At that point I had nothing to cast at because the boat was in front of me about 15-20 ft, the guy in the back was fishing the rocks to my left and the guy in the front was fishing the laydown on the right. It's mind blowing
Its a very common thing at the lakes i go fish at, it happens at least 4 or 5 times when i go kayak fishing, the guys on paddle boards with sails are the worst they will pass 10 feet in front of you. I was planning on going this weekend but we got snow today and itll be cold tommorow
This is just happened to me at Headwaters. Launched from the Kayak spot. Hugged the bank…. And a boat came by 25mph 10-15 ft away from me…. Crazy crazy man i almost thought he was intentionally trying to Ram me that almost pulled out my concealed carry to shoot into the air …. It’s not safe out there anymore.
I hear you Mr Brown I think I would have gotten really pissed off and cursed at him . But as I get older I try to hold my cool I'm almost 60 yrs old but something like that it just seemed he did that intentionally .
Wow I just got settled in from an all day fishing day on my local lake. I was set up to cast into a treetop and 3 older guys came along in a pontoon boat parked right in the tree top and ran their motor trying to get turned and blew up the whole spot. Seems since he's been fishing the lake for 30 years and......... Since he was there early in the morning before me it somehow made it ok🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬. I said "after 30 years you would think you would have learned some manners". Didn't bother to tell him I've been fishing this lake for over 50 years. Looked like maybe his son was driving a guy about 50 ish. Great way to bring up your kids to be respectful. Passed him later on and pulled in a 2.8# ER on a frog . No bad for northern Crawford county area this time of year. ... I feel your pain Chad. All we can do is present ourselves in a respectful manner to others and not be "THAT GUY"🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🇺🇲🇺🇲
I got to a spot to duck hunt on a public lake one time. There were some guys a good 200 yards away from us where we set up. They were kind of in the area first but we faced the open lake and they were fishing the bank. They eventually worked around and got within shotgun hitting distance of us. Cut a group of ducks off that were swimming in our direction just to get into a fork of the lake. We were livid. Not only did they cut off ducks, but they were stupid when it came to safety
The duck hunters around here have lots of spots away from people fishing. No one has problems around here on public lakes. Any good duck spots are mostly away from good fishing spots.
Hey Chad, thanks for your content, and looking forward to seeing more. Are you using the nucanoe unlimited in this video, and how do you like that kayak. I ask because I'm a large guy, 6'3 280, and have decided to go with the unlimited.
I mostly fish walleye. And I troll for them. It's very common for someone to anchor right where I just caught one. Then they want to cast at your boat like it's their spot. Last year my brother was out. When a famous guide. With his own TV show did it too him. With a boat full of clients. Didn't stop my brother from catching his limit. How would that make you feel? Also realize that fish are not afraid of boats. The guy in front of you hopefully churned up some bugs that attract bluegill. And what eats bluegill?
I understand your frustration. I got out on one of our local lakes a few years ago. I didn't know it was duck season and every single duck boat that passed me, never slowed down and they all waked me while I was in a 10 foot inflatable boat. One fisherman came by and I heard him tell his buddy, don't wake that guy up their fishing. They slowed way down and we talked a minute as they passed and I thanked them for the curtesy they showed. Don't know if all duck hunters are as rude as what we have in NE OK but I was not impressed.
Down here in south Tx, there are people that like to run their boats 30-50 feet from the T’s at public fishing piers just to ruin someone’s day, one time I got completely spooled and rod broken in half when a boat did that to me, but just like you said there’s no more common courtesy anymore, I’n fact idk how many times I’ve had to call game wardens on other people for fishing harassing.
Nope. And there was no fight here. I fish nearly 300 days a year and only have a few run ins in the last several years so it’s a very low percentage. And I wasn’t “looking for this one” it came to me. 😘
Happens too often. Things like this are common place. Everytime I hear a motor i ALWAYS check its pathing. Also carry a concealed. Some entitled people really dont give a damn about your safety.
if 150 yards of braid wasn't so expensive..... it would do wonders to the seal on that lower unit. you handled it well sir, they totally showed how little they care for anyone else on that lake!
Feel ya on that one, even on a 17foot deep v those people are jerks can be ten times worse when in a kayak! Boater safety certification should be required to operate ANY motorized water craft just like a motor vehicle!
Boater Certification would do nothing....Look how many jerks are on the roads.....Jerks will be JERKS! And to many "Boaters" Kayak people don't count, we are not on "Boats".
My dad helped me realize some people are unknowingly inconsiderate, him being a bigtime culprit. Remember kids only you can prevent forest fires! Let it go and hold onto your hairlines guys.
To be a little devil's advocate, it doesn't seem like he did it on purpose or to be mean. He may not have noticed you guys until he came off plane and was slowing down. By then it was honestly too late. He didn't continue to escalate after you said something and he moved through as quick as he could. Best not to let it get to you and move on else both of you look foolish.
"moved through as quick as he could" lol ya he sped off on purpose like a real jackwagon and stirred the bottom up.He should have apologized or something
As a yak angler and glitter boat angler he knew chad was there, if he didnt then he shouldnt be operating that boat. Alot of people are just Aholes and want to ruin someones day for fishing a spot they wanted to fish.
I totally disagree. When you're driving a vessel it's your responsibility to see everything in your path. It's not like the kayaks were hiding behind a bush or tree. He saw them. He just didn't want to go around. Plain and simple narcissism.
A real fisherman would never do that to another fisherman. That S happens to me from time to time while trolling. Just pull right in front of you and stop. 🤬🤬
The flat isn’t the only thing that got boiled up😂😂😂. Im with you tho brother that would’ve set me off, I mean at least apologize if he didn’t see you or know what he was doing.
Great video. Now do one in ramp courtesy, like to ines who back down the ramp and then spend 20 minutes prepping the boat, arranging gear, monkeying with the anchor rope, and then doing all over again as they block rge ramp when they come in. It will ruin the first and last hour of your day.
hey chad dude i get that all the time at Lake Geneva Wisconsin! not only bass boats but wakeboard boats. if i wanted to i could bean the driver with my luer if i wanted to.
Thinking of buying a Yak and this is one of the things I worry about. Ppl are a$$holes. Some ppl think since they spent thousands on a boat they have the right of way.
Its crazy how ppl are today. Everytime i go fishing, someone shows up within 5 minutes and crowds me out everytime. I bought a spot on a lake for camping, but i was fishing it for like 12 hours. As soon as i get setup, here came 2 ppl and posted up on me. I told them that i bought this spot, and they argued with me about it. So i just let it be and moved on down. I ended up crushing the bass and catfish and they didnt get a bite. Lol
Chad, I mentioned to you before that now you’re in Huntsville I have some great backwater spots where boats can’t go to catch tanks. I messaged you on Instagram after you said let’s meet up. Let’s get it, brother!👊🏾
@@ChadHooverFishing Hey brother, I tried to call and text you about fishing tomorrow, but your notifications are turned off on your personal phone. Hit me up, Jorden.👊🏾
Courtesy is always the way to go Wether hunting, camping, or fishing. People usually go out of their way to be helpful. There's always going to be the rude one in the bunch. I get over it and get on with my day. Hell, I'm fishing 🎣..
My life. I got hit by an idiot not watching where he's going.. near miss multiple times a year. Boat licence does no include common sense!! Love the videos thanks for the hard work.
we've all had that problem. the last person that did that to me I followed them down the bank casting a swim jig because the fish were suspended in the clumps of hydrilla every time my jig hit this clump I would get a bite. then I would scream like Ike. I lost count I caught so many bass but I never saw the other guy catch one.
The point of this video was that he could have just stayed in the channel To get to where he was going. He wasn’t fishing, he was simply driving across the flat to ruin our fishing. He also went out of his way to do it. It would be a different argument if he was even attempting to fish and would have still be rude, but he was simply just doing what he did to ruin our fishing.
Same thing happen to my boy a hour ago but instead of a bass boat it was 2 wake boats. My friend got pissed and told them something and their respond was "You're just made because you cant afford a bass boat" . Damn clowns think because we're on kayaks we cant afford a bass boat LMAO. Our kayak setups are just as much as a bass boat lol
I've bank fished or fished from a dock and people drive over my line without caring. One of the main reasons I like to take the unbeaten path away from people.
Those rude boaters are everywhere, especially where I fish. They alway come close, and those jetski rider are the most rude nasty people. They always ride really close and ride back and forth and literally try to ruin my fishing day. But yeah, I do understand your frustration.
Unless they actually have a house on the lake, kayak fishermen are at the bottom of the fishing status hierarchy, even below the guys who fish from shore. That guy was probably trying to take his bass boat to his dock and you got in his way. You caught some decent bass though.
Horrible man. Yesterday I had some idiot roll right by me in a brand new Nitro. He obviously can afford it but has no idea how to drive it or care about anyone else. I fish out of a semi v hull so not horrible but rocked me pretty good. People just don’t seem to care as much anymore
I've had too many A-holes screw my fishing up like that... the WORST are friggin jet skiers!!!... been more than once I've stood there with a rock in my hand contemplating the consequences... Lol
I have jets skis and boats literally drive RIGHT over the top of my line while I'm surf fishing....I also have people Adults literally walk right into my line right in front of me while I'm surf fishing...i had an oriental lady step on my line and walk right on top of it in front of me yes...while surf fishing
Hey Chad I can not believe how rude some of these people are. He could have drove out further away from where you were casting. Unreal that is terrible .
I came from a large bass boat to now fishing a kayak and feel terrible when I see other bass boat owners do this. A lot of bass fishermen think because of the type of boat they own, they own the water. It is a very dangerous mindset to have. Leads to reckless and careless boating habits. I always tried my hardest to avoid other fishermen, even those fishing form the shore or docks. We all have to share the water and fish equally. Doesn't matter if there is a tournament going on, we all have access to the water and need to respect each other and think courtesy and safety first.
chad also doenst own the water and his reaction is absurd and disappointing. dont be on open water near a boat ramp and you wont have this happen so much.
I sold my bass boat and now fish only from a kayak and have no regrets. I agree with you, too . There are so many bass or recreational boats who act like they own the water .
@@bobbybass1944 Exactly everyone needs to try to be courteous but chads reaction was over the top and screamed an entitled mentality. It was disappointing and sad to see.
I am “entitled” because I expect someone to not drive within 15 feet of me while I’m fishing? I could see if I was the one “in the channel” and then expecting people to go around me (which also happens and in that case the person sitting in the channel is wrong) but I wasn’t anywhere near the channel and this guy drove between two kayakers that were so close we were having w casual conversation. The GoPro makes it look farther than it was.
Too many selfish people like that these days. They’re so petrified of accountability too that they will use any excuse in the book paired with unnecessary aggression to act like they did nothing wrong. You’re right, common courtesy is not so common anymore.

I like that.. because you have to do something doesn’t mean what everyone else is doing isn’t relevant …common courtesy 👍🏽
Remember when we were fishing outside Red Hook, NJ and we were fishing 30 yards apart and a boat drove between us at full throttle?
Yessir! But I kind of expect that in the saltwater…. This “should” be different
I am really enjoying this kayak! It was a great deal for the cost and it has a lot of wonderful features. I highly recommend it

Lol
Guys run through where I'm fishing almost every time I go out,at 68 years old I love bass fishing, but get screwed over a lot of times.
Chad, I mentioned to you before that now you’re in Huntsville I have some great backwater spots where boats can’t go to catch tanks. I messaged you on Instagram after you said let’s meet up. Let’s get it, brother!👊🏾
Shoot me a text at 757-348-2232
I will also try to find the DM
@@ChadHooverFishing I’ll shoot you a text now.
@@ChadHooverFishing Hey brother, I tried to call and text you about fishing tomorrow, but your notifications are turned off on your personal phone. Hit me up, Jorden.👊🏾
I like to aim for the boat prop.
I encounter this just about every time I go out
Courtesy is always the way to go Wether hunting, camping, or fishing. People usually go out of their way to be helpful. There's always going to be the rude one in the bunch. I get over it and get on with my day. Hell, I'm fishing 🎣..
Imagine leading the biggest b.a.s.s kayak event ever and this happens twice. Welcome to bama lol!
🤦🏻
Up here in the North we call these assholes spot hogs. They can not find there own fish so they pull in and mark yours. Get use to it!!
That dude pulled such a douce move oops my jig accidentally hit your precious boat😅😅
nope at least he slowed down some out of courtesy. idiot fishermen dont own the water
That guy was a piece of work
My life. I got hit by an idiot not watching where he's going.. near miss multiple times a year. Boat licence does no include common sense!! Love the videos thanks for the hard work.
Thank you
Unfortunately that happens everywhere. We've had that happens to us too.
we've all had that problem. the last person that did that to me I followed them down the bank casting a swim jig because the fish were suspended in the clumps of hydrilla every time my jig hit this clump I would get a bite. then I would scream like Ike. I lost count I caught so many bass but I never saw the other guy catch one.
It has happened to me so many times I can not count
You can see where the guy is fishing and he could have sneaked behind the guy fishing
The point of this video was that he could have just stayed in the channel
To get to where he was going.
This is like getting mad at the car switching lanes to gain 2 cars. Not following driving etiquette. It’s everywhere why you seem so shocked.
It’s literally not everywhere in the South. Which is why it was rare and uncalled for. Thanks for the comment but the comparison isn’t even close
4:39 oh the irony! 😂
There is no irony in saying that
@@ChadHooverFishing you need to look in the mirror buddy.
I've bank fished or fished from a dock and people drive over my line without caring. One of the main reasons I like to take the unbeaten path away from people.
I've had a couple of boats do some dumb 💩 but most have been polite for the most part...
Those rude boaters are everywhere, especially where I fish. They alway come close, and those jetski rider are the most rude nasty people. They always ride really close and ride back and forth and literally try to ruin my fishing day. But yeah, I do understand your frustration.
Way to keep a cool head. I might have had a few choice words
You're a better man than me sir..
Unless they actually have a house on the lake, kayak fishermen are at the bottom of the fishing status hierarchy, even below the guys who fish from shore. That guy was probably trying to take his bass boat to his dock and you got in his way. You caught some decent bass though.
It’s funny that you actually believe this and even funnier that you took the time to type it out. 🤦🏻
And people pinned, or, stick down passing the boat ramp causing all our watercraft’s to slam against the dock🤦🏽♂️
Drama Queen
Horrible man. Yesterday I had some idiot roll right by me in a brand new Nitro. He obviously can afford it but has no idea how to drive it or care about anyone else. I fish out of a semi v hull so not horrible but rocked me pretty good. People just don’t seem to care as much anymore
I've had too many A-holes screw my fishing up like that... the WORST are friggin jet skiers!!!... been more than once I've stood there with a rock in my hand contemplating the consequences... Lol
At least he slowed down...lol
He slowed down at least man! I've seen a lot worse
Gotta love clowns with no common sense 🍻🤙🏽
I have jets skis and boats literally drive RIGHT over the top of my line while I'm surf fishing....I also have people Adults literally walk right into my line right in front of me while I'm surf fishing...i had an oriental lady step on my line and walk right on top of it in front of me yes...while surf fishing
Hey Chad I can not believe how rude some of these people are. He could have drove out further away from where you were casting. Unreal that is terrible .
Exactly, and it was worse for him too because his motor bogged down all the way across the flat
He didn’t see you clearly. Why else would he slow down when he had you in his sight your headed towards you should have turned around
I wasn’t in “open water”, I was in a foot to two foot of water 100 yards from the channel.
Maybe he meant doc, not dock...
Nah, but if he does that to the wrong person he may need one… LOL
Too many selfish people like that these days. They’re so petrified of accountability too that they will use any excuse in the book paired with unnecessary aggression to act like they did nothing wrong. You’re right, common courtesy is not so common anymore.
You’re a hot head dude.
Nah, but thanks for the comment
