Why would you do all that work when just swapping the outlet fitting on the can to a 3/4" npt X 1" hose and using a 1" hose does the same thing? I tested this myself and reduced fill time from 1:05 to 29 seconds. No drilling or silly breather tubes.
The hose on the outside isn’t necessary, you only need the long hose inside so the gas doesn’t spill out the vent. On the outside, you could use a threaded fitting and put a cap on it.
Just did this - definitely more like $30 because of the hose - but DAAAANNGG was it MUUUCH faster!!!! 10/10 recommended!!!
