Watching it on my phone the Meguires definitely looks like the winner. I do think however when it was said and done in real life the Murphy’s came out on top but not by much.
I use tilex mild&mildew on the black spots and let it work for a couple minutes and rinse. All the black spots disappear. No scrubbing needed. I use simple green to clean with a mild brush for dirt for the rest of it. It does a great job and the bleach in the Tilex isnt strong enough to damage your roof.
I also used the tilex on my rv rood . It cleans it bright white with minimal scrubbing. Ya just gotta rinse it off really good
Just spent the afternoon cleaning my tpo roof today and I used Protect All cleaner with a sponge mop after sweeping off the roof and then their uv protectant too; worked pretty good. I think the bottom line is a tpo roof just doesn’t ever get pure white again, does it! Ha ha
Getting ready to wash my TPO roof for the first time. I've done other RV TPO roofs, though. After each cleaning I used Aerospace Formula 303 to combat UV damage. Worked like a charm. Think I'll try Murphy's Oil Soap after watching your video.
I've always used comet cleanser on my tpo roof. I believe that is what was recommended by the tpo manufacturer.
I have to say I am a fan of TSP. I used it before I primed and recoated using Lanco Primer & Ultra Siliconizer (15 year) products on my EPDM room. It did an incredible job and rinsed off very easy.
I recently cleaned my Motorhome TPO roof with Camco wash & wax cleaner, it worked GREAT!!!
The mfg of the TPO material recommends Murphy’s oil soap and for stubborn stains bleach.
Best thing I’ve found is “Greased Lightning “. Had a boat that spiders used to poop on and it was the only thing that would dissolve it and make it look great again!
It’s price and easy availability to get it
Simple car wash and wax roof and slides done 2-3 times a year and sides washed 3-4 times a year and you can’t tell the difference I have a neighbor that washes their roof and sides with same simple brush every 3 months and his 2017 5th wheel
Looks better than most 2 yr old campers
All of them looked pretty good. I think Simple Green looked the best. Good info. We are due to clean ours. Dreading it.
Wayward Waggs certainly not my favorite way to spend a day off!! 😂😂
I'm sure
IMO the Maguires Wash & Wax did the best!
Joe Kokinda yeah it was a toss up via the comparison photo. I think the Murphy’s did just a tad better overall. Very comparable. Thank you for watching and commenting!
First time I washed my entire car with Murphy's Oil and it's really really clean. And it smells awesome
Best to use a product specifically designed for cleaning RV roofs. Some are one and some are two step products, but then you end up with not only a clean roof, but one that is conditioned and UV protected without potentially harming the EPDM or TPO material.
The manufacturer of our TPO roof recommends a "mild detergent" and discourages scouring cleaners such as Ajax or other powdered products. I'm sure there are UV advantages to some RV roof cleaners but also wonder how much of that branding is hype? Hard to say unless you did a multi-year test... Thank you for watching and commenting!
The problem is that they are overly expensive. Premium priced just because it says for rv roofs on it.
Thanks for the video. We are new to RVing, only 5 trips so far, another one coming up. Then it is time to winterize and of course do the roof (for the first time) and of course the sides of the RV. Based on your video, I am thinking to us my wash and wax product I use for the cars. At least for the first time since it is not too bad. Love you channel!! Really looking forward to the final results of your hitch trials!
So thankful you guys watch!
How are you applying these cleaners? Are you just pouring it straight on after wetting with the hose and brushing in?
My RV top cleaning is way overdue from being hit by Hurricane Harvey. My RV has a brand new top put on it, pre-Harvey. $12k! And got hit by glancing blow from trees, and screwed it all up. I'm going to reface it with aluminum like a Air-steam over the rubber matting. . . I don't like these cheap rubber roofs they tear, stain, leak and literally suck. They have a terrible reputation and are a money/time hog. However in the meantime I have seen some reviews on B.E.S.T. 55048 Rubber Roof Cleaner & Protect-ant Bottle - 48 oz. ~ $35. So far that's what I'm leaning toward. You want try a few different concoctions too. . . Like, Simply Green, Vinegar & Water; w/o 1% Bleach (Mold) and some Baking Soda. May a test with Laundry detergent both liquid and a past made of granular. A review these would be good. Great video.
I have Meguiars wash and wax, but it’s yellow? Is it the same as the purple?
I’m not sure. That bottle is a year or two old. Very likely they could have switched the color up.
We use Thetford’s Roof Cleaner then follow up with Protect All treatment (UV). Never considered using Wash and Wax. At least you know it’s safe for the side walls 👍🏼
There is a thread on the Grand Design Owners forum where somebody reached out to Alpha Systems (the maker of the roof material). The person ended up using non-splash clorox bleach and brushed it on with a paint brush on the dark lines. They then took a soft brass bristle brush and scrubbed it right off after letting it sit 10 minutes. I would have been worried about bleach and metal on my roof, but that seems to have come right from the manufacturer, and the person showed the before and after pictures.
Did Grand Design actually respond to them saying it was OK to do? I tried finding the thread but I can not.
You should add grease lightning to your cleaner it would have done it...
No one sees my trailer roof so it's no big deal for me. I just sweep off the loose stuff and mop on vinyl floor wax. I've been doing this for about 7 years now since I bought the trailer brand new.
What's a TPO roof and how do you tell? I have a 2009 Mallard 23.
Ro Bo TPO stands for Thermoplastic Polyolefin... it has a slightly textured feel to it. If your roof is smooth it’s likely rubber.
Have you ever tried using trisodium phosphate TSP with a mild detergent? Works great on mold and dirt.
You have to be careful using purple power if the side of your rv has automotive paint. It will stain the paint! I've used it on my engine bay but kept it off the side.
Try Dawn it worked very well on my roof and it keeps the softness in the material so it doesn't dry out. Just sayin it worked for me. 😷 stay safe/healthy during this period of the pandemic 😷
Dawn is very popular. Appreciate the feedback. We're doing good during these weird times. Hope you are too!
Won't Dawn pull the protecting oils out of the roof material?
The dealership that replaced my roof suggested Dawn. The government used it on the animals that were soaked in oil it was gentle and left them soft.
I've been using it for the past 4 years. My roof stills feels soft. I'm only speaking from my experience.
DIrect from GD:
Thank you for choosing Grand Design RV! Great question...roof material is a TPO membrane from Alpha Roofing Systems. We have been told you don't have to treat it, but you can if you want. If you want to keep it clean Dawn dish soap works well.
Murphey's oil soap between the others!
Using LAs totally awesome, read label on dillution.
It is hard to tell which one did the best on the black spots but the Simple Green looks the whitest to me.
Just a suggestion. Dollar store, Awesome Orange
Justin Tomlinson I’ve heard Awesome is a great cleaner... but a little harsh in certain situations. Maybe worth testing out!
My wife and I just bought a 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 with 74,000 actual miles on it. Now we're shopping for a camper to put behind it. Watching your videos has given me more confidence to go ahead and go and do this than anybody else's. I have learned a lot from you thank you very much.
Steve
Great to hear! Safe travels. We appreciate you watching
I see many comments on mixing chemicals, true. But be cautious. Never mix Clorox and ammonia it can kill you.
Also, I learned in our looking for an rv do not get a rubber roof.
Krud cutter, worthless. Tip, use a handled brush not to abrasive, you can stand while doing the job. Purple power, is my go to cleaner.
Please try AWESOME from the dollar store. It's all I use on our GD.
yorkbrick I’ll put it on the list!! Thank you for watching and commenting!
Yes! Awesome is awesome for black streaks!,
I find that Murphy soap works the best at least it works great on my fifth wheel. Another awesome video thanks
I haven't gone through all of your videos yet but, have you tried 30 Second Outdoor Cleaner?
No! Link???
I use Spray nine
What about UV protection? They say BEST. is what should be used.
Ronald Kiser TPO manufacturers simply suggest a mild soap and medium bristled brush. I’m sure some products claim extra benefits... and they’re making a dime on that claim so who knows...
I just bought my GD Momentum in September. I just noticed the black mold lines across the roof and thought I had a major problem. But just saw your video and see the same exact lines on your roof. I'm a first time RV buyer. Are these lines normal? Is this a problem with the roof? Thanks for the video!!!
Robert Molinary it isn’t a problem at all. The waterproofing in the plywood has something to do with the lines but it has been thoroughly investigated and it is a non issue. Your TPO is not compromised at all. Congrats on the Momentum! Thank you for watching and commenting!!
My mother told me a story about A man who work for the city went missing after he went to the sewer system because of people use an ammonia bleach other chemicals like that what
You never mix Clorox and ammonia it can kill you.
Great job and perfect ideas
Is there a blue?
Please elaborate. There is a blue version of Simple Green... but I'm not sure that is what you were asking...
I think the car wash one Mcguires
Recommend Dawn Professional.
On the list for next time!!
Need to be sure it doesn’t dry the roof material out too.
Yes! I didn't mention that point in the vid. Another reason I like the Murphys... so far!
Based on the screen shots, the Krud Clutter looked least effective, while the other 3 looked to be a toss up. Nice video, thanks.
Bleach & about 3500/4000psi pressure washer.
Daniel Guzman you’re braver than I!
Well I should of said depending on experience using a pressure washer ive been using one since 97 so I kno wat im doing hope this helps you,I would apply with a pump up sprayer or just brush it around for more control of bleach camper def needs to be wet all over on sides awell before applying bleach, when finished cleaning rinse around all sides when finished.
ok idiot@@danielguzman5378
@@danielguzman5378 never use bleach. I own a RV detail business. The rigs with the most permanent damage were caused by previous detailers using bleach. Bleach is no bueno!
Never use Murray Oil Soap, huge mistake. It gets on Windows and heck getting streaks out.
Can you try " Winsol deep clean" product nxt time?
vcash holdfast I’ll look for it!
Regular car shampoo is enough
Do me a favor be careful mixing chemicals
Robert Smarr no worries, I rinsed thoroughly after each cleanse!
Looks like your white top coat of your membrane is wearing and will need to be replaced in a few years.
It’s been 3-4 years since this video first dropped. Roof is in great shape.
Looks like car wash did best
Honestly? Not that impressed of those products - sorry... :)
Why not add value to your comment and tell us what you use??
@@WanderingWeekends Dicor RP-RC rubber roof cleaner... But, just going by your videos, it seems that they all left a lot of black spots in linear areas. I thought they'd do better on those. I've tried a few others and had similar results as yours. The Dicor product seems (that's the operative word there) to do a better job on those.....at least, on our camper (2018 Fuzion).. Hope that helps.
@Lee Christianson will the Dicor cleaner work good on a TPO roof as well ?
