    When we got our kitchen redone I seriously considered the AGA. The learning curve on how to use it is steep but so worthwhile, especially in winter since it does double duty as a heater. But this extra heat in the summer and the high cost of running the AGA are what convinced us to go with induction instead. It’s so nice to see this oven in action, though, and imagine how I would have used it. Thanks for the great recipe ideas.

    I admire watching your family your way of living your cooking from scratch, carrying for your family to be nourished. Not many women decide to devote themselves to homemaking applause make God bless you and your family. Besides everything else you’re homeschooling your children, which is great may God bless you Abundantly I was always timid when it came to yogurt making but your recipe seemed like very easy. I will definitely try it. Thanks again.

    I have had a aga for years, people get very stressed about using them including my husband but they are so easy. You are missing a few tricks with your use of the aga. You have worked out that you loose heat if you have the tops open too long. You can steam your veggies in the aga too in the simmer oven, so you don’t need to have the top open for long. If you can get yourself a Aga book or look at some tutorials online I think it would help you. Love how your life is round the Aga, I love mine. ❤

    How is the oven powered? Just found y'all today and I have been watching all morning. I'm a grandma and my family live on a sixth generation farm. We live a similar lifestyle but not as in depth as you, however we are working towards a more self substanible future. I do the garden and preservation and a ton of everyday cooking. I also home school my grandson. I live across the road from my son and his family and I usually prepare breakfast and lunch for him and my grandchildren I also prepare dinner several times a week. First time seeing an oven like yours and I am amazed. Can't believe I have never heard of it before you are very lucky. What a beautiful family and life you have!!!

    My grandchildren ask for my oatmeal when they stay over at my house. I have been adding whole egg powder and lots of butter and heavy cream to ensure they get plenty of protein. Like you I don’t like to load them up with carbs. I have also fallen in love with ancient grains and use a lot of einkorn berries in my cooking in place if rice because it healthier and goes great in soups, as a pilaf…. I mill it for all my baking. Kids love it too. Love your channel!

    My Aga hasn’t arrived yet, but I’m watching a lot of Aga cooking content. With the cooking plates on top losing heat, I see consistently that those with older models like yours try to cook everything they can on the floor of the ovens instead of on the top wherever possible. Apparently the floor of your roasting oven can behave just like a cooktop. But that’s not firsthand experience from me, so I could be wrong.
    Wonderful video, thank you xx

    My husband is Scottish, and they are still used in Scotland. I'm unsure whether I want one, or a Pioneer Princess. We've been sitting on it for 3 years now. The heat would be a boon in the winter months, but summer gets really warm here in nH.

    I only came across your channel today, (while searching for homemade snacks) I don’t know where I’ve been, it’s such a pleasure watching your Family and lifestyle, home cooking, and estate living I’ve already spent hours watching a few episodes and I know I’m going to go through them all I grew up on an Estate and big farm in Northern Quebec, Canada to a big family and we had the exact same lifestyle but then I went off to college in Taxes and ended up falling in love with this lovely Palestinian girl and we’ve been married for forty years now and we are blest with a big family too all grown up and out but she being a city girl never enjoyed an off grid life she don’t understand it even when I take her up in the country she only wants to return to the city and while we live in the suburbs it’s way not the real life but for this strong handed manipulating girl (in a good sense) is worth giving up a thousand lives but I do miss it much and watching you is such a nostalgia such a deep emotional thing please keep it up it’s so refreshing. Thanks a trillion

      This is a good question and something I was concerned about before we got it too. It hasn't been an issue! The burners are quite large so there has been times when I have 2 smaller saucepans on one burner at the same time. Otherwise, I usually only have things on the plates on top for a short time and then to keep warm ill transfer it to the slow cooking or warming oven. Hope that helps answer your question!

    Loved this video. Is your AGA electric or wood? Do you have pros and cons on any of the heating sources? Are they hard to clean?

    • @FromScratchFarmstead
      @FromScratchFarmstead  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi! Ours is actually gas. You can use a steel wool or something pretty abrasive to clean the heating plates. The enameled part we just out a towel. It’s not bad but does require regular cleaning like any other oven. Hope this helps!

    Hi. Really like your videos. I was wondering how your AGA is powered? Electricity/calls gas/oil/wood? Unfortunately I haven't one but I have used one and I really do like them.

    How much does it increase the house temperature in the summertime? What is the cost of supplying it with gas if it is on the entire time?

    • @FromScratchFarmstead
      @FromScratchFarmstead  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good questions! Maybe a few degrees at most? We have AC and keep it set at 78 degrees so it rarely needs to run much unless it's really hot outside. It probably costs an extra 10-15 dollars per month on our gas bill.

    If you ever reno your kitchen I respectfully suggest you move your fridge away from your Aga. It must be very hard on your fridge that it is hot 24/7. I buy everyth8ng cheap on Kijiji and FB market place and i renoed my whole house including all 3 deep freezes, 3 frodges, double oven and all appliances, cabinets and countertops. You are smart to get aga used and house foreclosed. I do the same -pinch a cent in half. Pat on your back. Can you feel it? 🎉❤❤❤🎉😂🎉😂

    I’m Japanese, but was born in Brazil. We Brazilians love to put doce de leite (dulce de leche in Portuguese) in everything! In the middle of cakes, as the filling for donuts and so on! It is very sweet though.

      Where we are in the midwest, it's bearable. We will often turn it down if we aren't doing major cooking and that helps a lot. We do have an oven in our basement in case we ever wanted to turn it off completely (a lot of people do this) but we haven't found the need to do that yet. Hope this helps!

      Venting with windows and fans, excellent heat dissipation. planning helps too, imagine nice skylight for natural lighting and ventilation. In the day we had a screened porch for canning cooking in summer (still very hot in humid south). I use a Burns Milwaukee Solar Oven with great summer cooking success. This is becoming a favorite channel. Reminds me of Jane Shuttleworth - Mother Earth News - In Action!

      It's really not bad. Our gas bill is maybe $10-$15 higher each month. But it also cuts our heating costs down as our heat rarely runs unless it gets below freezing. Thanks for watching!

      I wouldn't say unbelievably hot. In the winter and cooler spring and fall months, it's lovely and really keeps are heat from running much at all. It can get warm in the summer but most days we turn it down so it's not as hot but still usable and it's really not bad at all. We do have air conditioning as well. Thanks for watching!

Then I looked at used ones and they are more reasonable. Saw some for like 7-8 k which is still a lot but more easily attainable

    Didn't know that dulce de leche is known in the States. I know it from my husband who is from Argentina. I only made it one time my self, as well as my husband tried it himself. The result wasn't so good, but my husband's was better. 😊 He orders it from time to time at an online trader in Germany who sells food from Argentina and Brazil. For me that one is too sweet. 😅
