Moment 37 is one of the greatest moments in fighting games. The skill of that win, says so much. It is what fighting games are all about, its not over until its over
I wouldn't say that. Justin is past his prime now. I'm sure there will be someone better than him at the game now. He was beaten multiple times in many of his Third Strike videos. Mainly by Yung and Makoto mains who are just too good.
I'm glad they've decided to run a classic "featured" game each year at Evo. I made a post about this years ago (How big was cvs2 at launch), and I'm proud that this is becoming a reality.
The LV convention center deal is HYPE. That place is really new and nice, and it's directly on the monorail. Great memories at Mandalay Bay, but last year the attendance numbers really strained the venue, especially parking.

I think it should be 2 retro game spots. I'm on the impression that we will mostly see Capcom games on the retro while it has only one spot. I'd bet next year is MVC2 or SF4 (or at least we wil see them in the following years). Maybe we see and older MK, since people seem disappointed with MK1 or Injustice 2. But I think older Capcom fighters have the biggest drag. That could be ammended with one more retro spot.

Only bad thing about Third Strike being there is that Marvel won't be. I think a retro day would be a lot of fun. Even if it was just small, invitation only tournaments, I miss seeing some of the old games be played at the highest level.
I will say as a casual spectator, who's only recently started playing with SF6, MvC3 was no fun to watch. I watched all of top 8 since it was a game I was unfamiliar with, and am happy to see that there's a different older game coming out here for this EVO. I just don't see what old fans of the game see. The finals being a full on mirror match with 3 of the same characters, and watching that same team win going through the entire top 8 bracket was super boring. I'm sure there's a lot of fans who like the game, but I think that if a lot of EVO watchers are going to be part of this new generation of games, this is for the best, because the spectator experience for that game is shite.
I didn't say that every match was a mirror, though I guess my sentence definitely wasn't clear. The point was I watched the same two comps come up from both winners and losers side to get to grand finals. Half the matches had the same comp. But hey don't take my word for it, your game is the one that got replaced which says something about the overall perception of the game at EVo 2023. @@CassianoAlanCanossa
Sad that the retro game next year isn't going to be Mario Kart DS because Nintendo WiFi Connection has been down for a while now. I mean, Nintendo can just turn it back on whenever they feel like it, but it's been lost to time for almost a decade now.
The update last summer for FighterZ made the game 10× better, so it's a shame to see it fall off. Top 5 fighting game of all time, but it'll be a sick retro title eventually.
3s is just way too cool. Honestly, the music is just better than sf6, hopefully sf6 updates will bring it's theming more up to par with it's own gameplay which is pretty good already.
Accent Core and original Melty Blood (AACC) would be my picks for anime fighters. Not sure what 3D games would make it in a retro Evo, is VF5 considered retro at this point?
As a big smash/platform fighter fan it is not at all surprising that smash didn’t make it back to evo and it never will. Anyone who thinks it’s coming back is on massive copium, is completely unfamiliar with the state of the game’s competitive scene, or is waiting for the next game to come out. And even then it probably won’t come back. I have my doubts about there even being a next smash game at all
@@willkershisnik5893Sakurai said it would be the last one that he works on, but he has said that before, too. And even if he doesn't come back, it's a huge system seller for Nintendo, I suspect they'll want to make a new one with or without him.
