    I think most x-axis scales are installed on the back of the table.....so it doesn't clutter the front....and so your chip guard goes over the scales as to keep them clean....

    • @randy-yk1yk
      @randy-yk1yk 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Installing it on the back side requires you to remove the x and y tables (no way to get a drill in there). I have the same mill and put mine on the front also. I did however leave the stops on and installed the scale over the top of them. I didn't want to chance crashing the scales.

    • @DD-DD-DD
      @DD-DD-DD 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Then I would have just removed them. It isn't a huge deal. It looks awkward and in the way.

    Just a note on that locking handle, isn't it supposed to be able to rotate after it has been tightened? (Hence the spring and locking teeth).

    • @howycwap
      @howycwap 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yep youre supposed to pull it towards you and rotate it to a free position. although they are plastic and not the best quality, so its not a big deal he remade them

    A couple pieces of advise for better results liberal amounts of tapping fluid it makes your taps happy and live longer liberal amounts of oil when knurling makes a cleaner knurl and switch from the push type to the pinch type your lathe cross slide will thank you in the long run, next when installing your DRO rails look for the best way to keep the cables out of the way ideally they need to be going out the back of the machine then up to link into the module

    Nice! I recently bought a mini lathe and the maximum travel is about 200mm, so I plan to use two cheap digital callipers connected directly to the axis’. How much was your DRO?

    Seen all of your videos. Great work. It would be super cool to know a little about you guys. Like, where are you from? What did you study in school? How did you get so much experience in mechanical engineering? What are your day jobs? I feel like we've sort of gotten to know you both but not really.. Would be cool to know more!

    Can't believe you are a novice in machining. First you rebuild from junk a very nice and serviceable lathe, beautifully done, Then I see you making tools, parts devices that means you have a good back ground in anything you put your mind too. I am jealous. You are doing very well. You also make nice, and interesting videos which I enjoy. Congratulations and good luck. I am a fan and I subscribed to your channel.

    What size and model is your vise? I have the same mill and need a good vise.

    • @PhysicsAnonymous
      @PhysicsAnonymous  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe it's the shares 6 inch vice. If I were to do it again, I would probably get the next size up though.

    • @michaelhoward6880
      @michaelhoward6880 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your reply. Any chance you could get the model number off the side of the vise? It looks to be the size I want but I want to make sure I get the right one.

      @@michaelhoward6880 Mike's wrong, I just looked at it and it's the 4" shars. I think the 202-1021 is the closest to what we have and looks like they've improved it a little. It's a decent vise for how cheap it is

    • @rudddude5294
      @rudddude5294 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      there be no place to put the power feed stops since he covered up the slots...should of put the DRO in the back, his vise hangs over pass what space the DRO would of took anyway?

    So I am curious why the DRO on the Z. I typically use the the fine adjustment knob in the front to finalize my Z position and moving the mill head up and down is just to get it close. By the way, I have a DRO on my Z too, but I just don’t use it. I installed mine on the back side but I am thinking about moving it to the front now.
    I have enjoyed watching your videos.... There are a lot of really good ideas in them. Thanks...

    • @robertoswalt319
      @robertoswalt319 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a mill just like theirs and I use the z axis adjustment instead of the quill for hogging material out.

    • @randy-yk1yk
      @randy-yk1yk 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Z scale also eliminates the need for a quill stop. Extend your quill all the way, use the Z axis to set your final depth, and then retract the quill. You can repeat the holes all day long.

    Incorrectly installed. Long scale not on this side but properly. If you want to enjoy them longer, you have to turn them. The gasket has always been turned away from the tool. Install the covers. These are optical scales. They do not like dirt. A bit of water, dust, chips and will show you the error.
