This is my first ever big win at a major race! Couldn't be more stoked to send off the 2023 racing season this way, coming in over 30 seconds ahead of Onewheel Factory Team rider Austen Silva, who had an insanely impressive time for running a stock GT with a Performance Treaded tire. Full Race Results can be found here: my.raceresult.com/264287/results Also, hope you guys enjoy the new camera setup! Now running a GoPro HERO12 + Max Lens 2.0 for a wider FOV, allowing me to get the board in the shot and a clearer look at the lines I'm taking. I think it makes for a much more immersive and enjoyable viewing experience, but interested to hear how you guys like it! Thanks for watching, y'all! S-Series has now entered the picture, and I've finally graduated, allowing me to put way more focus into training and conditioning. So goes without saying, 2024 Onewheel Racing is about to be on a whole new level. Make sure you guys subscribe to stick around for that 😉🤙
New Camera and the wide angle are nice, where did you mount it ( looks like side of helmet ) ?. Of course you schooled fm riders. More powerful board and a better rider, they didn't have a chance . :)
Pretty impressive riding, I think a camera on the side of the board would really help showcase the speed, like a little gopro mounted on the side. Insane run, that trail looks fun.
Awesome to be able to "ride along" with you on these runs Nico. Congrats on the win! Looking forward to seeing what you do next year when you have the time to train and practice 🤙
Dude great job Nico. I used to race mountain bikes and I was a small guy like you (5ft 90ibs). to help the shakiness of the cold I really recommend a thermal vest or just something to keep your core body extremely warm. Also I like to drink hot cocoa before a race because coffee sometimes makes me even more jittery. Congrats dude!
You put DIY and VESC on the map, great job! Can’t wait for next generation Thor300, tronic and other powerful vesc come online, watch out Factory team! Go Nico!
Congrats! Also thanks for the video. This makes me want to try out the control freaks. I currently don't take many large drops but one thing that seems to hold me back is my feet (mainly front foot) slipping when I land. Sometimes quite a bit. I feel like it would give me so much more confidence if I could know that my foot wasn't going to come off the front of the board.
Thank you! Can't wait to travel a bit more now that I've finally graduated and hopefully take my talents to some of the West Coast races in 2024 to show the guys out there what these things can really do 🤞🔥
Definitely no points where it messed me up, I'm extremely in tune with it at this point that I don't have to think of it much, just muscle memory and part of how I ride, so it's not like I get confused and tilt the wrong way or anything like that. Probably only a few sections, like the beginning of Stage 2, where I go a bit too much on the nose lift and end up tail dragging some, but no big deal and I correct it right away. Overall it's definitely a huge benefit, at least with the way I ride. The extra control has been a game changer and makes me way more confident
For those of us who live somewhat close (8.5hr drive), when is the best time of year to hit those trails? Have only had the pleasure of riding very poorly maintained/respected single track MTB trails. Would hate to jump into an event like that for the first time ever without some idea of riding proper trails.
@FirstWeRide It's honestly a perfect beginner event! There's even a beginner class specifically for people in that scenario. Unfortunately it just went down a little over a week ago, so next WinMan Enduro won't be for a year. But if you have a chance, I'd visit before it gets snowed over, which I imagine could be fairly soon. Otherwise, you'll have to wait until next spring/summer when it clears up again (or can ride in the snow haha, not for the faint of heart)
@@nicoaleman I'm in the midwest... snow riding is some of the best! 😆 Friend and I ALMOST pulled the trigger this year, hoping to hit next year. That damp sand is definitely rough! You got some footage from winman this year?
@FirstWeRide Unfortunately not too much, been injured and hurt myself in practice so couldn't risk racing. But check my Instagram @tech.nico1 , I've got a couple reels from my time out there 🤘
@@nicoaleman Dang man, sorry to hear that! Hopefully you're healing up well! Mind if I ask what this particular video was filmed on? I can't seem to get an angle that I like with my helmet mounted setup yet.
In stage 4 at about 17:14 on this video you slide out, when you get up on your board there is a second where your right hand is in the frame and you are grabbing for a dangling controller. What is that?
It's a remote for "Remote Tilt"! Allows me to influence the angle of the board in real time using a joystick. My inputs can be seen in the bottom left of the screen, where down (blue bar) is pulling back on the joystick and lifts the nose (think pilot controls). And up (red bar) is pushing forward on the joystick and drops the nose, which is most often used for harder braking without tail dragging. This is a VESC exclusive feature, Future Motion Onewheels aren't capable of this.
Control Freaks! They're Dragan Toe Hooks, but with custom mounts specifically for Onewheels to make sure they don't interfere with the sensor but still have a durable and sturdy mount. Made by Riley Johnson out in Denver, CO. Check out @Ctrl_Freaks on IG and shoot em a message if you're interested in a set!
The gauges are custom made, being driven by Log data from the Floaty app's ride recordings. Unfortunately not too easy to explain or replicate haha, went through some effort to get them dialed for my vids.

Thats was incredible to watch
You’re shredding! 🤩 I’d love to see a video where you talk about your board, how you ride, etc.
Amazing riding!! Congrats on the win!! 🙌
Wow! Ive never seen someone catch so much air! I didnt even know this stuff was possible at that pace on a onewheel. Nice job man

Tremendous work Nico 👏🏻
Winman certainly has amazing trails.
Saw you post this on the server- definitely going to take a watch at this. So far I’m on stage 3 and your pace is incredible👍
Next season is going to be insane bro!! Sick lines here and great footage. You da man!! 💪
Dude you are zooming through those trails! 🔥 Congrats on the win! 👊🏾
Very nice!
This is so gnarly I didn't know my Onewheel was capable of so much!
Rider skill, board power and rider weight. Nico's capitalizing on all 3!
