from my time as an insomnia, ive come to realise that dami seem to have a very strong personality/mental state. at least it is what is portrayed to us but it can be supported by the fact that she follows multiple wise quotes and even shared some of it during interviews.
derek khor I believed that she is an avid reader and that’s why her personality is kinda composed. Maybe when she debuted in minx, she was just go with the flow and she adores soshi so much that she barely survived 😂😂😂
They themselves have said that they would never want to do a concept similar to Minx again, specially Siyeon. There’s a recent funny clip where they were going to sing in a karaoke and JiU jockingly said “Do they have Minx?” and Siyeon just went “NOOOO” and hid until JiU said “nah, they haven’t”
It's a good thing for us that Minx failed. It was clearly no fun for the girls though, that fail must have been terrible on them. Don't ask SuA about Minx. Don't ever make a motion as if you're rubbing your belly in her presence. You probably won't survive. You have been warned. 😉
During Minx era Jiu and Sua were 20~21, Siyeon was 18~19, and Dami and Yoohyeon were 17~18. Dami was the maknae! I like Minx's music a lot but I have the same problem as you were they are being energetic and youthful but the camera seems to be taking away the agency of such young girls to market them as sexy. HappyFace did the same with Minx's older sister group Dal*Shabet. I mean, even "Love Shake" is a cover of a Dal*Shabet b-side. Luckily, HappyFace realized that it was them, as a company, that had failed such talented young women so they essentially bet everything on redebuting them. It always surprises me when a company actually learns from its mistakes and strives to improve. Especially a smaller company that doesn't have much of a safety net. I do really like "Why Did You Come To My Home?', which is a play on this Korean nursery rhyme --> th-cam.com/video/IYzGzWRr9Eg/w-d-xo.html And, where as I'm really glad we have Dreamcatcher now, I feel so bad for Minx. The girls were devastated. It was a dark time that is really hard for them to talk about. Siyeon's solo song Paradise is about how she can finally go back to that Siyeon who was in a dark place and comfort her. And I think that's why InSomnias are so proactive. We know we're still a small fandom, but we can't bear the thought of them going through that again. Not after how hard they have worked and how talented they are. Whew, this got long! Sorry about that! Just thank you for sharing in this joy with us! ^_^
you have to understand gen2 kpop is either cute or sexy for girl groups so if you watch other mvs from other groups at the time, it would have been similar. also minx's debut did not do well so perhaps they were trying to be a little more sexy for love shake(which was a b-side remake from their sister labelmate). so in essence love shake was a hail mary for minx because they had to either make some mark or disband. many girl groups especially from a small label like happyface would not have survived the first year under the same situation and the members were all pretty stressed and depressed fearing disbandment. it took a lot of guts for happyface to continue rolling the dice and invest more money bringing them back as dreamcatcher. their story, comeback, and relative success today is a very unique one in kpop. this is why they always talk about how much they love their fans who stuck with them and brought them back.
ggs back then were much more than cute or sexy groups like 4minute, EvoL, GLAM, Brown Eyed Girls, T-ARA, Kara etc did more than cute or sexy i mean GLAM debuted with a bisexual anthem and said something like “girl or boy? doesnt matter” and “imma kiss you baby girl”
Also, there was too long time between the releases of "Why did you come to my home?" and "Love Shake", which worked against the generation of buzz and promotion. Nowadays Dreamcatcher release a new album every half a year or so.
Hi Austin, I totally understand your analysis on Love Shake. I think one of the reasons it didn’t seem to take advantage of the girl’s talents is because the song wasn’t originally written for them. Love Shake was originally a b-side from their sister group, Dal Shabet :)
Sir Austin sorry i was replying while watching the video. I do agree with you they’re great in minx but the production just doesn’t sits right with me. Really love your video 💓
I love DC keep on posting 💓💓💓 really genuine content 💓💓 Hm I’m not sure if you have watched/reacted to it but since you’re lee yu bin’s bias, I recommend you to react to their cover of big bang - bang bang bang. Dami is really great there 🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻
@@SirAustin pleasse...reacts to Malaysian singer SITI NURHALIZA - WHEN YOU TELL ME THAT YOU LOVE ME / I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU th-cam.com/video/0HSq05iUjas/w-d-xo.html
I totally love Minx, I fell in love with them right after their debut, the problem, at least for me, is what you and a lot of people have said: they kept wanting to make the girls look sexy and focusing on their bodies, at least in the MVs. I never liked that and to this day I feel really uncomfortable about that, even more now since I kinda 'get' more things I didn't realize at the moment, still their songs are really good and I think 'Love Shake' fits Minx style more than Dal Shabet's (since it was originaly their song), I wish we could hear SiYeon singing that whistle tone? I think they called it, but well idk if she still can do it till this day, but it would be awesome
Siyeon really shines in WDYCTMH. SuA is the lead rapper in her profile. I like some of the b sides from Minx, (who are not dreamcatcher, obviously) and the second song. I think, given how young Dami and Yoohyeon were, the suggestive shots made me uncomfortable. Also pushing the summer love vibe on the girls really took away from their talent. A lot of companies actually unfortunately sexualize their artists a lot regardless of how young they are. HF really cares about the girls and decided to put in so much more work into rebranding them rather than disbanding them. This new branding also ensured that Handong and Gahyeon weren't forced to do suggestive stuff. It's also quite taxing on the girls in such situations like with sistar and 9muses where Sera Yu actually cried at how helpless she felt about the sexualization of the younger members. The commodification of kpop idols though...yeah that's a whole other can of worms thats better left unopened for now. Anyway, if it wasn't for dc we never would have gotten pink haired Gahyeon, "even the girls want me" Dami, and "lemme just come out as not straight on national television" Yoohyeon.
An honest and well thought out reaction. My impression is that Minx was good, but not great. And that wasn't enough for a group backed by a mid-tier company to move above the pack. Love Shake was a very obvious attempt to get attention by hypersexualizing the group members (who were very young at the time). A lot of K-Pop groups have been led down that path (Stellar comes to mind). And it usually does not work that well. It is to Happyface's credit that they looked at the end result and said "Let's not do that again." It is to their discredit that they tried it to begin with.
No worries, I totally see where you’re coming from. When I put them on, I just listen and try not to watch, because I find the oversexualization of the girls uncomfortable. I mean, Dami looks like a child! Or maybe I’m a prude 😀 WDYCTMH was their debut, but they didn’t follow it up for nearly a year. And when they finally did come back, Love Shake wasn’t even their song-it was a cover of a b-side from labelmates Dal Shabet’s 2012 album Bang Bang! Not exactly ideal strategy from happy face, but maybe they were of secondary importance to Dal Shabet at the time. Anyway, we can all be thankful HFE didn’t give up on them but instead bet the company on them. 😃 SuA revealed in a recent interview (ai think the Esquire one?) that she doesn’t like the way she sounds when rapping and prefers singing. She said that Gahyeon is better. She rapped on Chase Me, but afaik that’s the only time for DC.
Minx! Ah yes, it's really interesting to see where the girls come from but I agree, the forced "sexiness" is really too much and the girls themselves mentioned that they were uncomfortable with that, especially Siyeon. What is also important to know, is that after Minx disbanded, the girls had a really really hard time, Siyeon said she couldn't even listen to music anymore because she had lost her dream, it was almost traumatic for them... So seeing now how well they're doing as dreamcatcher is amazing and I hope Somnias don't mention Minx too much to the girls, I think it could be insensitive (some people ask for covers of those songs like... no, let Dreamcatcher be Dreamcatcher and Minx just a trace of the past lol) I always enjoy your videos, they're really interesting! If you react to old Kpop, I hope you can also check out Brown Eyed Girls, their vocals are absolutely AMAZING! They're also a sexy (super sexy) group but they were older and they actually wanted to do this concept so it doesn't feel uncomfortable imo. Anyway, their vocals are soooooo worth it, hope you can react to them!
Thank you so much! I'm going to react to more than just Dreamcatcher on this channel. ❤️. Throwback Thursday's will have older groups like 2NE1, Girls Generation, etc.
@@SirAustin Tbh I wouldn't mind if it was only Dreamcatcher lol! But yeah I wanted to mention Brown Eyed Girls because not too many people react to them but I know you'll enjoy it, those high notes in their song Sixth Sense... wow just wow!
Luckily the disbandment did not last long and was a smooth transition. The last public performance as Minx was end of Sep 2016 (is on TH-cam), and the first appearance in an uploaded video "Concept Trailer" on vlive as Dreamcatcher with all 7 members was beginning of Dec 2016 with scenes of a Summer forest (like in "Chase Me"). So they must have already filmed the music video of their Dreamcatcher debut "Chase Me" while they were still having public appearances as Minx.
I got to know of Dreamcatcher during You & I comeback period, so I was really surprised too when I found out some of the members were originally minx. Also knowing how young they were at the time and with how the MV was kinda like sexualising the girls just didn't sit right with me. I do agree that the songs are catchy though!
Completely and Totaly NOT Dreacatcher! 😂 Minx Debuted around the same time as Red Velvet, Twice, Gfriend, Oh My Girl and got lost in the Shuffle, but Returned with 2 New Members and Became Epic as Dreamcatcher!!! Funny Thing is Many InSomnia's Love The Old Minx Songs and Videos and Some even want to see them re-done Dreamcatcher Style, just like what they did with their Cover of Chakra's Han. Btw Love Shake is a Cover of their Seniors Dal Shebet also from Happyface Entertainment (Dreamcatcher Company is just a Sub-Label crated for Dreamcatcher). Yes SuA used to be the Lead Rapper before Gahyeon, but doesn't like how she Raps and thinks Gahyeon Raps better than she does, she concentrated move on Vocals. However Fans still love SuA rapping and would like to see her Rap again. Yes There is some other stuff by Minx Available (I made a Playlist btw) on TH-cam. Don't worry we know and understan where you are coming from Austin even Dreamcatcher Cringes at the Mention of Minx and Especially 'Love Shake'! Siyeon has the most adverse reaction and will Run and Hide at the mention of Either! There is a Resent Video of Siyeon, SuA, JiU at Karaoke; SuA and JiU playfully were looking for Love Shake ( which was not on the playlist btw) and Siyeon took off and Ran Away like at Bat Out of Hell! Gahyeon is also known to Bust on her Unnies about their days as Minx and 'Love Shake' The closest Dreamcatcher has Come to The Return of Minx is their participation in the UNESCO: Millasian Project Video:: 'Be The Future' Music Video. It's a PSA for Proper Hygiene to Stop The Spread of The Covid-19 Corona Virus. Fans Noticed and So did JiU and SuA in a Behind The Scenes Video on How Similar the Set was to 'Love Shake' and Poked a Little Fun about it. SuA even Started Dancing 'Love Shake' and it is now a little bit of a Meme. If you haven't watched it yet I suggest Reacting to TH-camr Mira's: Dodging Disbandment and Other Extreme Sports: A History of Dreamcatcher. I Also like Sera Ryu's Entire Dreamcatcher Series of Videos on her TH-cam Channel; where she did a Deep Dive into Dreamcatcher Fell in Love with them (and Dami!😉) and even Interviewed Them. Sera is The Former Leader and Main Vocalist of Nine Muses that was a Popular 2nd Gen. K-Pop Group, so be sure to Review them in Your New Throw Back Thursday Series as well. Sera is Now Considered The Ultimate Dreamcatcher (and Girl Group) and Dami Stan! Like Yourself and Me her Bias is Dami! She is Our Queen and (Unofficially of Course) Considered by Fans InSomnia's President.
oh right Sua used to be lead rapper! she mentioned recently that she didn't really like how she rapped so she prefers not to rap in new songs anymore, though she might try it in a bside or a special clip
I was actually early to comment but then I got distracted and never finished it and now everyone pretty much said what I wanted to say. lol But adding on from our twt exchange... yeah, Minx's concept was very manufactured and generic but discovering Minx and looking at them now after DC, they were actually really good. I mean Siyeon belting out that high note on their DEBUT song? How did that alone not getting any attention? I think there was one music show performance where she actually sang that live and nailed it, of course. They just seem to have a long streak of bad luck with timing and getting drowned out by bigger groups, and it's still happening even now.
I know I already said it but here I come back again hehehe I enjoy your reactions, I love them! I love Dreamcatcher ( minx) and it hurts me that they don't get the recognition they deserve.
listening to their radio live is a must!!! WDYCTMH: th-cam.com/video/enQdwYo139c/w-d-xo.html Love Shake: th-cam.com/video/jQbGHV6y_xw/w-d-xo.html SuA also rapped in Good Night...
They did a collab song that have cute-ish non-DC concept recently titled "Be the Future", like end of April 2020 recent. The set for the song feels like a call back to Love Shake.
Lol yeah, probably should have warned you about the mvs. I feel like it's good for any budding insomnia to see where Dreamcatcher started. Also yes wdyctmh is a whole ass bop.
Sua actually was a Lead Rapper when they debut. You already saw her rapping in GOOD NIGHT. You didn't notice that since you were not familiar to their face and names. So she was a Main Dancer + Lead Rapper + Sub Vocal, and is introduced in official position even so far. I think the company thought Gahyeon has talent at rapping and decided to give her a rapper position although they scouted her as a vocal
Yeah! I love Minx They have a mini album too. Their b-sides are cool too ✌️ I hope you appreciated the appearance of Rapper SuA in Minx Yeah, the MVs are really uncomfortable to watch. So I never watch the MVs, it's way better with just the music itself. I don't like Love Shake that much too
Yeah me too, really love their song but uncomfortable to watch the MV's. this is the 2nd time I watch this MV's, I like better to just hear the music 😄
On the subject of SuA rapping, this is one of the other reasons people say Dreamcatcher are underrated. Quite literally, all the members can sing and dance really well, and nearly every member has expressed the ability to rap to some extent. We've just only seen SuA, Dami and Gahyeon do it in an official release (unless you consider JiU's 'faux rapping' in BOCA - idk if that's exactly what it's called, a friend of mine called it that) There are clips of all members besides I believe Handong, and JiU rapping (again, unless you consider that verse in Boca a type of 'rap') and some clips potentially displaying Siyeon as the fastest rapper in the group.
Love shake was their first mini album and it's title song. But it is originally from DalShabet -another girl group of happyface. Maybe the company thought Minx is totally failed.
Interesting tid-bit: SuA doesn't like to rap. She doesn't like the way her voice sounds when she does. She said it in one of their interviews/vlives. That's why she doesn't rap. Gahyeon didn't like rapping initially either, she wanted to be a vocalist.
U right Sir. Minx is not them. Dreamcatcher is what truly show their personalities and talents. Happyface ent. do the right thing by redebut them as Dreamcatcher.
When i first learned that Minx was DC : one of my most shocking moments in life. I had a point where i LOVE love shake so much bcs i heard it on music shows. Then i found DC, i didn't have in my mind AT ALL that they're the same. I always listen to DC's title tracks when they had comebacks. But i didn't learn their names, their stories, etc. I was just there for their music. And i still go back to Minx sometimes. Then Deja Vu happened. It annihilated me. So i was interested to learn more about them. And when i found out that they're Minx.... I just... What. It's kinda funny. I love them both.
Love shake was originally a bside by their older sister (same company earlier debut) group DalShabet that got re-released as their comeback so that's why it's kinda generic Also fun fact the pizza guy in Why Did You Come to My House is Baron from the group VAV
If you would like some POWER-vocal group to react to SPICA is the one. Their company sadly disbanded them back in 2017 but the group refused to disband, however they ended up going their separate ways. Or did they? They are very supportive of their individual activities and 2 members (Kim Boa and Kim Bohyung) formed self-produced duo KEEMBO. SPICA is basically 5 powerful singers, one of which is actually vocal coach who trained idols during recording sessions and who recorded many guides for other groups. I can't explain how they ended up being unsuccessful. Maybe it was that they were older than other idols when they debuted - they were all in their 20s back in 2012, and now the youngest one is 31. For a start I recommend "You Don't Love Me" and "Tonight". And here is a bonus video of their live performance when 3 members surprised 2 other members who were guest on this show by starting singing off stage, it is very emotional reunion (it takes place a while after disbandment): th-cam.com/video/XivQuMJ0h9Y/w-d-xo.html
there is a line from Willie Wonka that comes to mind sometimes when I watch reactions. It doesn't have to make sense, that's why it's candy. To me it applies to K-POP videos. If it doesn't make sense, it doesn't have to. You're right though. Happyface was going for a spot in the market but too many other groups were debuting at the same time. Twice. Red Velvet, G Friend. the market was overflowing with that concept. strangely though when I watch special clips and covers I sometimes think I'm watching Minx. And the only one I can't recall rapping is Handong. It wouldn't surprise me if she's a first rate rapper like the rest of them
Looking through their past ivs, dami still portrays the personality that she has now. It just that they have this cutesy concept and her being the maknae looks like she’s different now (imo)
I wonder what the Minx girls would say if you showed them Boca's Music video. They would probably be so confused and not understand what was going on or how they got to that point.
Minx makes everyone uncomfortable. If you want to see Dreamcatcher being sexy in an authentic way, you should check out their special clips playlist on their TH-cam channel. SuA has a dance cover of copycat that she choreographed. She also choreographed the dance cover of Taki Taki with JiU and Yoohyeon. SuA likes spicy choreo 😂
No one noticed that Siyeon's whistle and i was so frustrated when they promoted this because Siyeon wasn't whistling live but still loved this song. ❤️
I totally get what you are saying.if I had to choose between minx and Dreamcatcher, I will choose Dreamcatcher all day because they are more my style of KPop and music. It’s strange watching Minx after watching Dreamcatcher even with the knowledge that Minx is Dreamcatcher’s origin. I like Dreamcatcher because of their unique sound and concepts- no other group does what they do. Just like with Mamamoo- no other group does what they do it sounds like they did while Mamamoo and Minx both debuted in 2014, Minx went the typical female sound and Mamamoo went the other direction with retro and they made them stand out. I don’t listen to Twice, Loona.. or partially any other current female KPop because the cute/pretty/preppy is not my thing.. I only listen to Mamamoo, Dreamcatcher. Before MMM and DC (and Monsta X for male) mainly listened to TVXQ, Big Bang and 2NE1... I only listen to certain songs from Red Velvet, Sistar, Shinee, EXO, Seventeen, VIXX that fall more into my preference...
ever since i stan them i can't still believe dami survive this era ahahahahahaha, guess because of her love for soshi she survive this concept, also siyeon lol
Actually in your reaction of Goodnight you thought it was Gahyeon rapping but it was actually Sua before Dami's part...listen to it again youll see now because you know the girls more you'll realize its actually Sua not Gahyeon rapping 🤣
I love Minx, but I'm glad they re debut as DreamCatcher instead of disbanding for being unable to compete with other group from bigger companies. I also want to point out that beside WDYCTMH and Love Shake, they have another song called Action , it was their predebut song cmiiw so there was no MV, only stage performance video. A quick search on youtube is all it take.
Minxcatcher by a channel named Dreamatory th-cam.com/video/F_4b5zpRgYg/w-d-xo.html. There is also some other interesting Dreamcatcher tidbits on this channel.
Well, basically they didn't stick out from the many groups during that time. Honestly, I cringed on both MVs when I watched them, but I'm the same as you where I prefer Why did you come to my home.
Oh, and yes definitely listen to Minx's cover of Beyonce's 'End Of Time'! If there's one thing that Minx era has over DC era is the girls harmonizing with each other like this! It is my happy place! Here's the link --> th-cam.com/video/enQdwYo139c/w-d-xo.html
Before I watch the vid, I just wanted to suggest Minx - Shut Up, more of for your own pleasure. If you want there is a version made by Dreamratory to add effects/instruments to make it sound closer to DC's style. Both are freaking awesome.
It would be cool if you checked out the Minxcatcher remix of Shut Up. Shut Up is a really good bside from Minx’s album and someone turned it into a Dreamcatcher song. Oh yeah, and don’t worry about preferring Dreamcatcher over Minx. InSomnia and Dreamcatcher themselves prefer Dreamcatcher. I always believe it’s important for fans to watch Minx at least once because it is a vital part of their history. In my opinion, Minx existed to fail because, with the failure of Minx, it encouraged their company to try something entirely anti-mainstream and unique. I also really disliked how they were being sexualized while trying to pull off a cute concept. It made the MV super creepy and uncomfortable. It was much less weird in Why Did You Come to My Home because they had more of a bright and tomboyish appeal, but the girls probably would not have liked being sexualized like that. To go on a bit of a tangent, this is also why Blackpink’s Ice Cream made me feel so weird. The music video was a nice change and really cute and bright, but the lyrics were overly sexual. To make matters worse, the song sounded like a children’s song to me. Like what the actual hell?
Yes dw many prefer Dc to Minx - Even Dc themselves! Dami and Siyeon especially. Unfortunately, it is heavily speculated that Siyeon seems to have actual trauma from it. Ever wonder why Siyeon loves long pants so much? 8:20 is Siyeon not only were they forced into a cute concept but they were very s*xualized and most were underage. She was 17 (and not even one of the youngest members). So now Siyeon never wears shorts bcs she gets very uncomfortable. I’m glad she is more comfortable now but i still think about it a bit 😕🤷♀️💜
Love Shake was actually a re-used song. It was originally released by DalShabet (group that was on the same agency) as a B-side, and then reused for Minx as a comeback for the girls (their debut was Why did you come to my house) So maybe the song was never conceived as a title track, and thus why it doesn't sound that "good" or impactful. Sadly, I don't think there's record of Siyeon doing the whistle note at the end of why did you come to my house (shit that's a long title, reminds me of Panic! At the disco lmao). They performed the song everywhere (the usual kpop promotion) but when they did it on radio or music shows she just let the backing track do its job for that part
There is a live performance they did in a mall or sth I think where Siyeon does the whistle note live I believe. But it was very hard to find. I stumbled upon it by accident, it was a fancam video.
I also don't like the fact that they did sexualize Minx even though they were so young, and Dreamcatcher aside from Chase me becuase it does still have a bit of the same flavor in very small parts when it comes to Jiu on that couch.. any way Dreamcatcher doesn't even try to be sexy they just are
The 'Whyd you come to my home' to my concept suits JiU and Yoohyeon well but not really the rest. Also SuA raps in some of the older songs of theirs before Gahyeon took it over in Piri
These'll grow on you just like everything they do. I have zero interest in sexy/bubblegum pop, but it's hard for me to dislike this despite everything about it telling me to. Their raw talent still rises above the nonsense. And Siyeon pulling off a sustained, shifting whistle note. I've literally never seen that done before. I heard that she hated the direction of Minx, so it's not surprising that she would compensate for these hangups with where she really shines, but damn, they never cease to impress. You're right though, it does feel weird.
The Minx's song are the typical summer Kpop song, it's not bad, but the concept of Dreamcatcher i't a LOT better n_n Dami have the most bigger chance for my O.O
I don’t like the transitions in Love Shake. i actually like the club remix of it much better(bside on the mini album) Why Did You Come To My Home is a bop, same with their b-side Shut Up and their unreleased song Action. but yeah the sexualisation is no thank you i hope you’ll check out Shut Up and Action one day! the concept of MINX were supposed to be “trouble makers” whatever that means lol
Love Shake was a recycled song from one of Happyface's other groups (Dalshabet). Why Did You Come To My House was written for them. What I like about Minx is that the way they are on stage is very close to their real personalities. Dreamcatcher on stage are characters they've created. Their acting skills are very good and I know at least some of them want to pursue acting careers. If you're going to do old groups, I really love Nine Muses from the era when Sera Ryu was leader. She has a very popular TH-cam channel and can tell you some very disturbing truths about the Kpop industry.
@@deviladvoc I think she/he meant the way they are on stage are based in their personalities but fitting the concept they do, not that their are faking or acting who they are
@@biag9003 could you rephrase? i dont quite get it. "Dreamcatcher on stage are characters they've created." unless he meant that DC has 2 different personalities on stage and off? and by off stage does he mean literally off stage or in their own personal lives
I wouldn’t say Minx on stage was “very close to their real personalities.” JiU seems to be the only one to really click with the concept and essentially behave the same way on and off stage. Siyeon and Dami often looked uncomfortable even in some of their backstage shots (there were many Minx Play clips where it looked like they were smiling just with their mouths rather than with their eyes). Yoohyeon was somewhere in between but she still seems more carefree in the Dreamcatcher’s Note clips than in the ones from the Minx era.
I love that you met dreamcatcher before being a dreamcatcher hahaha, my opinion agrees with yours completely by wasting so much talent in a group like minx, and it is not that it was a bad thing because the truth is that none of their songs are bad and if they were from a large company would certainly have made the group successful. the problem was that currently successful groups such as twice, gfriend, red velvet debuted at that time and the competition was overwhelming. And siyeon kills me with those high notes A curious fact is that Sua was initially assigned the position of lead rapper, and you can hear her rapping on good night, however, she has admitted not feeling very comfortable and prefers to sing because of it Gahyeon little by little was assuming the position already that there was interest in her to do it. Another curious fact is that Siyeon hates the minx era, she cannot even hear the name of the group or the songs
I still can't get over dami being all cute. Its soooo strange but I love this song(love shake) I'm not a huge fan of why don't you come to my home sadly (but you did compare the first song to twice and twice is like one of my favorite kpop groups). And I love JiU. Especially in minx she's so beautiful alwayssss
Ugh, your reaction to how they are actually /sexualized/. Yes, I understand the frustration. You would go crazy if you get to watch some fancams from that time. Also for MINX, hope you could try I Just Like You (b-side), as well as their End of Time live cover: th-cam.com/video/snwq7CSX2PY/w-d-xo.html
minx's concept is borderline sexually suggestive. It bothers me a lot, and it's not because im acting as a conservative or anything like that, but the girls were actually pretty young in this. Yoohyeon and Dami were 17 years old, in my country she would be still underage. It bothers me a lot. Siyeon is actually very bothred by their minx's past, she had shared with us that it was a very painful moment in her life. As a fan, i get pretty upset when people ask them about minx era. It clearly makes siyeon uncomfortable. But oh well... And yeah, you should check out Action, it's a minx song (it was not featured in any album, oddly), and it's actually great, if you can ignore the borderline sexualization thing. There are one fancams for it tho, but you should def watch it on your own :)
I just treat Minx as a Sub-Unit of Dreamcatcher. Minx material is Dreamcatcher's Pre-Debut warm-up-practice B-Side stuff. Minx were no less GREAT at what they did, just that they went over-looked. It's just missing the Rock or Metal element. The full 7-member Dreamcatcher group eclipses Minx.
Hihi, so much fun to watch you cringe! I can imagine it has some guilty pleasure amusement value, and the waywanny is catchy as hell, butt... yeah it's just too much, right? Did the barbielike packaged Minx dolls also remind you of Evanescence's Everybody's Fool? (the awkward "buy me" doll and the wig)
Aside from some solo covers the closest you'll get to a Dreamcatcher cute concept is: Official MV | Millenasia Project 'Be The Future' (feat. Dreamcatcher, AleXa & IN2IT) th-cam.com/video/P-kVolThSaE/w-d-xo.html
Minx was definitely not the most unique concept and it was even traumatizing for some members, mostly Siyeon :( Not only they were oversexualized (Dami and Yoohyeon were still minors), but their disbandment hit really hard.. so, even though they joke about it with each other sometimes (mostly JiU and SuA); as fans we try not to mention MINX era in their vlives or fan q&a's or any other time, especially with Siyeon around ♡
Actually you have to know that HappyFace had a group named Dalshabet and they were sexy, that's why Minx was also doing the sexy concept. Luckily it didn't go that great. But for the girls it was a big disappointment and they were really scared about their future. The group was formed by JiU being the leader, lead vocalist, lead dancer, visual. SuA being the main dancer, lead rapper, vocalist. Siyeon being the main vocalist, center, face of the group Yoohyeon being the lead vocalist. Dami being the main rapper, lead dancer, vocalist and maknae. To be honest, the debut song Why Did You Come To My Home was and is a good song, but it was only a digital single. Love Shake on the other hand was a remake of the song in Dalshabet's first album Bang Bang and was on the first mini album with the same name. And this was a total miss. From November 29, 2016 till January 13, 2017 the 5 girls with Handong and Gahyeon had to learn a whole new concept in only 45 days, this shows how talented they are and the rest is history.
@@SirAustin dont be sorry sir haha..im just complaining about YT notification not show up your video as usual.. and im waitting for your minx reaction .. also so excited about your reaction to another GG which i dont know at all..bcz i dont know what is make another GG have a good song TBH..maybe if i can follow your journey i can understand by the analysis as u did to DC..thanks for reaction to Minx..i think they are familiar to another GG too haha..
Minx definitely wasn’t generic kpop it was what new kpop fans would think kpop would sound like because groups like twice even though they have a cute concept are way better quality songs minx was stereotypical kpop
Jiu is vampire, she hasnt aged a single day! truly the fake maknae
50 years from now when they're all gray haired and Jiu looks the same...lol
Scott Adams yooh already being gray haired since 2years ago ㅋㅋ
@@wujumiso3946 lol xD
same thoughts, the talent was there, just hated them being sexualized
I still can’t believe Dami got through this without her soul nope-ing out her body
Haha! Yeah. It's so weird to watch.
from my time as an insomnia, ive come to realise that dami seem to have a very strong personality/mental state. at least it is what is portrayed to us but it can be supported by the fact that she follows multiple wise quotes and even shared some of it during interviews.
derek khor I believed that she is an avid reader and that’s why her personality is kinda composed.
Maybe when she debuted in minx, she was just go with the flow and she adores soshi so much that she barely survived 😂😂😂
When Dreamcatcher sing a love song that would be the end of the world as we know it.
Weird as fish with shoulders.
They themselves have said that they would never want to do a concept similar to Minx again, specially Siyeon. There’s a recent funny clip where they were going to sing in a karaoke and JiU jockingly said “Do they have Minx?” and Siyeon just went “NOOOO” and hid until JiU said “nah, they haven’t”
that episode was funny.
Siyeon cowering in fear of Love Shake.
To be more specific Jiu was said do they have Love Shake. It's Love Shake in particular that Siyeon seems to find cringy. XD
SannaKore I’m pretty sure she finds the whole concept and dyscography of MINX cringy😂😂😂
Could you tell me which video is it?,cause i can't remember any of that. Thankyou
@@filahusnan2753 It was during the Vlive for SuA's birthday this year.
It's a good thing for us that Minx failed. It was clearly no fun for the girls though, that fail must have been terrible on them. Don't ask SuA about Minx. Don't ever make a motion as if you're rubbing your belly in her presence. You probably won't survive. You have been warned. 😉
Unless your name is handong haha
Don't worry, they also prefer Dreamcatcher 😂
I do really like "Why Did You Come To My Home?', which is a play on this Korean nursery rhyme --> th-cam.com/video/IYzGzWRr9Eg/w-d-xo.html
And, where as I'm really glad we have Dreamcatcher now, I feel so bad for Minx.
This just made me tear up
you have to understand gen2 kpop is either cute or sexy for girl groups so if you watch other mvs from other groups at the time, it would have been similar. also minx's debut did not do well so perhaps they were trying to be a little more sexy for love shake(which was a b-side remake from their sister labelmate). so in essence love shake was a hail mary for minx because they had to either make some mark or disband. many girl groups especially from a small label like happyface would not have survived the first year under the same situation and the members were all pretty stressed and depressed fearing disbandment. it took a lot of guts for happyface to continue rolling the dice and invest more money bringing them back as dreamcatcher. their story, comeback, and relative success today is a very unique one in kpop. this is why they always talk about how much they love their fans who stuck with them and brought them back.
ggs back then were much more than cute or sexy
groups like 4minute, EvoL, GLAM, Brown Eyed Girls, T-ARA, Kara etc did more than cute or sexy
i mean GLAM debuted with a bisexual anthem and said something like “girl or boy? doesnt matter” and “imma kiss you baby girl”
Also, there was too long time between the releases of "Why did you come to my home?" and "Love Shake", which worked against the generation of buzz and promotion. Nowadays Dreamcatcher release a new album every half a year or so.
SuA has a rap part in Good Night. She’s not a fan of her rap herself though so she hasn’t really done any more since.
Well that didn't age well huh
Hi Austin, I totally understand your analysis on Love Shake. I think one of the reasons it didn’t seem to take advantage of the girl’s talents is because the song wasn’t originally written for them. Love Shake was originally a b-side from their sister group, Dal Shabet :)
Nooooooo!!!! Stay away from Minx!!!! Siyeon is crying somewhere now 😂
I might release another video today....LOL. Because I'm obsessed and it's cold/rainy today. Let me know if I'm posting too much Dreamcatcher! LOL!
More about dreamcatcher!!
Vocal analysis video uploading. ❤️

SuA also raps a bit in Chase me😊
even more so in 'Good night'
And a lot in 'goodnight'
"Everyone knows Dami is my favourite" omgggg knowing this made my day thank you ❤❤❤
An honest and well thought out reaction.
Or maybe I’m a prude 😀
WDYCTMH was their debut, but they didn’t follow it up for nearly a year.
SuA revealed in a recent interview (ai think the Esquire one?) that she doesn’t like the way she sounds when rapping and prefers singing. She said that Gahyeon is better. She rapped on Chase Me, but afaik that’s the only time for DC.
Sua rapped on Good night not on Chase me but totally agree with the rest of the comment.
You are not a prude, they really are over-sexualized in those days. Fiester died on that too.
So seeing now how well they're doing as dreamcatcher is amazing and I hope Somnias don't mention Minx too much to the girls, I think it could be insensitive (some people ask for covers of those songs like... no, let Dreamcatcher be Dreamcatcher and Minx just a trace of the past lol)
I always enjoy your videos, they're really interesting!
When you said “What the hell?!” I’m pretty sure I had the same reaction. Lol. I love Dreamcatcher so much.
Man. You're going through all of these dreamcatcher content so fast. hahaha.
Glad you're enjoying the journey.
Keep it up!
I agree with the whole speech, and it made me especially uncomfortable how they filmed it with Yoohyeon and Dami not even being of age yet...
Completely and Totaly NOT Dreacatcher! 😂
Minx Debuted around the same time as Red Velvet, Twice, Gfriend, Oh My Girl and got lost in the Shuffle, but Returned with 2 New Members and Became Epic as Dreamcatcher!!!
SuA was the second rapper all the way into Dreamcatcher, Gahyeon only overtook her (as far as getting more rap lines) around Piri era.
oh right Sua used to be lead rapper! she mentioned recently that she didn't really like how she rapped so she prefers not to rap in new songs anymore, though she might try it in a bside or a special clip
This IS a Dreamcatcher channel
I was actually early to comment but then I got distracted and never finished it and now everyone pretty much said what I wanted to say. lol But adding on from our twt exchange... yeah, Minx's concept was very manufactured and generic but discovering Minx and looking at them now after DC, they were actually really good. I mean Siyeon belting out that high note on their DEBUT song? How did that alone not getting any attention? I think there was one music show performance where she actually sang that live and nailed it, of course. They just seem to have a long streak of bad luck with timing and getting drowned out by bigger groups, and it's still happening even now.
Lol! I already uploaded another video before you finished your comment! ❤️

Hahahah I love your humor Austin! Reacting to older generation groups and one you've never heard of before -> MINX LOL!!!
I had to just laugh at an excuse to get dream catcher in a video without it being dream catcher
Yeah! I love Minx
They have a mini album too. Their b-sides are cool too ✌️
I hope you appreciated the appearance of Rapper SuA in Minx
Yeah, the MVs are really uncomfortable to watch. So I never watch the MVs, it's way better with just the music itself. I don't like Love Shake that much too
Yeah me too, really love their song but uncomfortable to watch the MV's. this is the 2nd time I watch this MV's, I like better to just hear the music 😄
I really like their b-sides, would love to hear DC versions of those songs
On the subject of SuA rapping, this is one of the other reasons people say Dreamcatcher are underrated.
Quite literally, all the members can sing and dance really well, and nearly every member has expressed the ability to rap to some extent. We've just only seen SuA, Dami and Gahyeon do it in an official release (unless you consider JiU's 'faux rapping' in BOCA - idk if that's exactly what it's called, a friend of mine called it that)
There are clips of all members besides I believe Handong, and JiU rapping (again, unless you consider that verse in Boca a type of 'rap') and some clips potentially displaying Siyeon as the fastest rapper in the group.
Not just in the group - fastest recorded rap by a female kpop idol, even (according to CarKPop).
@@AmadanMath true, but that clip is the controversial one that we can't accurately judge
Love shake was their first mini album and it's title song. But it is originally from DalShabet -another girl group of happyface.
Maybe the company thought Minx is totally failed.
love this group!!!
This is how I met them so it isn't weird for me. More like nostalgic :')
Love shake was originally a bside by their older sister (same company earlier debut) group DalShabet that got re-released as their comeback so that's why it's kinda generic
Also fun fact the pizza guy in Why Did You Come to My House is Baron from the group VAV
SuA rapped in GOODNIGHT too!

The ZOOM INS ON THEIR FEET really frustrates me🗿
there is a line from Willie Wonka that comes to mind sometimes when I watch reactions.
I believe saccharine is a good English metaphor for those Minx songs.
Wow I've heard about this group, they seem really talented. Almost as good as Dreamcatcher
Its okay we want more Dreamcatcher anyway 🤣🤣🤣
ever since i stan them i can't still believe dami survive this era ahahahahahaha, guess because of her love for soshi she survive this concept, also siyeon lol
I need the subtitles 😭😭
You should react to their covers too! Lucky strike, bang bang bang, there's nothing holding me back, faded, etc!
Oh, and yes definitely listen to Minx's cover of Beyonce's 'End Of Time'! If there's one thing that Minx era has over DC era is the girls harmonizing with each other like this! It is my happy place!
Here's the link --> th-cam.com/video/enQdwYo139c/w-d-xo.html
Before I watch the vid, I just wanted to suggest Minx - Shut Up, more of for your own pleasure. If you want there is a version made by Dreamratory to add effects/instruments to make it sound closer to DC's style. Both are freaking awesome.
Sua is lead rapper together with Gahyeon :>
HOLD UP,
IM THE BIG THE GEEK PARADOX
I’m glad she is more comfortable now but i still think about it a bit 😕🤷♀️💜
it’s not bad by any means it’s just… not them ya know 😂
Love Shake was actually a re-used song. It was originally released by DalShabet (group that was on the same agency) as a B-side, and then reused for Minx as a comeback for the girls (their debut was Why did you come to my house)
So maybe the song was never conceived as a title track, and thus why it doesn't sound that "good" or impactful.
I stumbled upon it by accident, it was a fancam video.
it’s the feet in love shake for me i’m sorry i hate feet lmao 😭😭
i really love that u pointed out how they were being sexualized plus the fact that youre uncomfy abt it tells a lot bc it also made me uncomfy
Also SuA raps in some of the older songs of theirs before Gahyeon took it over in Piri
love shake was surprisingly a nice song but their mv kinda throw me off abit
Also "Love Shake" was originally from Dalshabet and not Minx, so it's a cover (that's why the other song is better haha)
The Minx's song are the typical summer Kpop song, it's not bad, but the concept of Dreamcatcher i't a LOT better n_n
Dami have the most bigger chance for my O.O
And then came Yaja TIme... Tape, Nibal and Bong... 😈
I don’t like the transitions in Love Shake. i actually like the club remix of it much better(bside on the mini album)
Why Did You Come To My Home is a bop, same with their b-side Shut Up and their unreleased song Action. but yeah the sexualisation is no thank you
i hope you’ll check out Shut Up and Action one day!
the concept of MINX were supposed to be “trouble makers” whatever that means lol
She has a very popular TH-cam channel and can tell you some very disturbing truths about the Kpop industry.
so the personalities they have right now as dreamcatcher are made up?
Also I discovered love shake was actually a cover of another groups song by the way. Just to let you know. Forgot the group tho
If you have never listened to Brown Eyed Girls you need to react to their song “sixth sense”. Dunno if you have heard it yet.
minx's concept is borderline sexually suggestive.
Aside from some solo covers the closest you'll get to a Dreamcatcher cute concept is:
Official MV | Millenasia Project 'Be The Future' (feat. Dreamcatcher, AleXa & IN2IT)

Minx was definitely not the most unique concept and it was even traumatizing for some members, mostly Siyeon :(
Not only they were oversexualized (Dami and Yoohyeon were still minors), but their disbandment hit really hard.. so, even though they joke about it with each other sometimes (mostly JiU and SuA); as fans we try not to mention MINX era in their vlives or fan q&a's or any other time, especially with Siyeon around ♡
Siyeon being the main vocalist, center, face of the group
Yoohyeon being the lead vocalist.
Awesome!
damn yt notification is messed up !! i dont hear any bells !!
:(. I'm sorry.
