Flix bus actually ownes Greyhound now and since the buyout in 2021 Greyhound service has ironically gotten worse. Wonder when that synergy is going to be flowing?

The bus station IS in the center of Boston, but with good connections to I-90, probably as a result of it having been built in the last 25 years with some thought about connectivity to the major Amtrak and commuter rail lines.

I had a similar experience to your Greyhound adventure with National Express. My 2:30am coach from Victoria to Luton didn't show up and I got told to get on the 3 o'clock one. Once that arrived they gave priority to the folks who had booked for that, meaning most of the 2:30am crowd got left behind. At least they refunded my Uber trip to the airport. Still, avoiding National Express at all costs now...

Last year i used it too while travelling to nordic country from berlin-copenhagen, copenhagen-stockholm, then london-brussel it was fantastic and punctual. I thought Flixbus was alright from Stockholm to Prague. The comfort was pretty good. The things that were problems were: 1. Wifi was limited to 100mb. Should have downloaded more stuff. Sitting not mandatory in the toilet so men just opened the door and pissed on the entire toilet and walls, I had to take 5 minutes to clean the toilets everytime. Breaks were not when they were scheduled and no information was given if a stop would be 30 seconds and 10 minutes. Should have bought more snacks and I didn't dare to go out to stretch my legs. I could do it again, but I would rather not. For the price it was excellent.

Right. They've been in trouble since the mid-1980s. Barely hanging on by threads. I suspect that in less than 5 years Flix will have sucked what little blood is left in Greyhound and either sell off the few paltry remaining routes in pieces or simply shut it down altogether.

It's a travel option of last resort for people who have no other choice, either because of cost, schedules (Amtrak runs many of their routes only once a day), or coverage area - Greyhound does service many smaller cities that have, quite literally, *no* other transit options.

I hadn't taken Greyhound in YEARS. Decided to give Flixbus a shot. It was a nightmare. It was drizzling. We waited in an area back from the curb under an overhang of the building. No sign of the bus. 10 minutes after the scheduled time I started trying to reach someone. Wound up talking to someone overseas with zero knowlege of US geography much less an understanding of my city. She advised me to just wait a day and take the bus. WTAF? We were traveling for the weekend and had hotel reservations. First we were told the bus was delayed. Then that the bus had left. The bus was unmarked at the stop when we arrived but I have no idea if that was our bus or not. . Mind you the pickup spot was a curbside area used by multiple companies. Not sure how they thought we would know which company they were with if that was Flix. We wound up rushing to the nearby Greyhound station. They made us wait two hours to be able to change our tickets. Had to call multiple times despite there being staff on site. Local staff very limited ability to do anything. What a mess. I would NEVER take Flix again.

I agree 100%. When it first started, Flix Bus used to be good because they offer multiple trips to different locations at a really good price. I'm not sure when they expanded and bought Greyhound, but the quality definitely dropped after that. Over the past year, I had 3 experiences similar to yours. The buses were late, no one at the "bus depot" (the same outside parking lot in NYC where this video is shot) had any info, on several occasions, there wasn't even a dispatcher there to to give any info, only chain-smoking bus drivers who were of no use. The last straw was when I was stuck in Binghamton, NY, the bus was supposed to 30 min. late, but never came, and we weren't allowed to get on any of the buses that came afterwards. None of the bus drivers spoke English, so they couldn't understand that our bus never came. Even when we tried to call customer service, no one picked up. We woulda been stuck there overnight had the last bus driver of the night not let us get on because the bus was half-empty. Never again! From now on, I'll do Trailways or Our Bus.

Several years ago I went from Springfield, MA to Richmond, VA via a combination of Greyhound (from MA to NYC) and Chinatown Bus from (from NYC to VA) and then the reverse on the trip back. Chinatown bus was a shit show on the trip down just because it was oversold and everybody on the bus sucked. On the way back it was also oversold and the people on the bus also sucked, but additionally the driver just drover around aimlessly in Virginia so we got to DC super late and I knew we would never make it NYC on time to catch my connecting bus. We were in fact late arriving in NYC and I did in fact miss my bus, meaning I had to stay in NYC overnight. Wheb I got to the gate in the morning Greyhound told me my ticket from the previous night was no good and I would need to run to the window. I ran to the window, where they put on a show of making a call to the gate and told me everything was fine. I ran back to the gate where the driver told me nobody had called him and my ticket was still not good for a ride...BUT...he looked at me, told me to throw the ticket in the trash and then told me to get on the bus before pressing his finger to his lips in a "shhh" motion. I find any trip between NYC and any point south on any form of public transportation is always awful.

The last two European owners of Greyhound have done their very best to KILL it. UK's First Group sold all of the Greyhound stations throughout America except for a few large cities and chose to lease space at railroad stations or their former bus stations. First Group also killed many of the rural stops and routes for interstate large city stops and routes. Now the new German Flixbus owners are selling off the few remaining large city bus stations, and shifting to downtown street sidewalks near hotels while sustaining their leases with city railroad stations. The former Greyhound garages have nearly disappeared, and you are lucky if there is a carport or a bus "halt" to keep you from waiting in the weather, come snow, rain, or sunshine... Obviously Greyhound won the lion's share of the bus business more than a half century ago with their art deco bus stations and garages, now new bus companies are popping out of thin air doing the same as Flixbus, using sidewalks and hotel parking lots with NO cover for weather. Vonlane, Red Coach, Peter Pan, etc. The northern American states get frigid winters, whereas the southern American states get very hot and humid during the summer months along with lots of thunderstorms and showers. Imagine waiting in Dallas for a bus in the middle of July or August without any shade in the Texas heat. The former Dallas Greyhound station, one of the last they built with the classic art deco style was sold for the value of the real estate, downtown land. I wonder how long it will still stand, as a parking lot or another building will soon rise there. Too bad towns like Stephenville and Paris in Texas no longer have intercity bus service. In many small towns in America without Amtrak, Greyhound, or commercial airline service, many have resorted to chartering small airplanes. And somehow Fllixbus is going to save intercity bus routes throughout America when they no longer serve rural towns and small cities anymore unless they are alongside a interstate? 😞

This company hired clowns as customer service representatives who hung up on her when she called and refused to give her a refund. She had to spend almost $100 for Uber to the airport and had to pay extra to move her flight. I did my research and heard this is quite common with flix as well as peoples luggages getting stolen and unsafe drivers. Flixbus contracts out to charter bus countries that operates all sorts of different buses with their own seating arrangements and pitch. Most charter buses in the US have 56-58 seats because theyre intended for an entirely different customer base. Per contract, Flixbuses dont have to operate branded, just as long as the bus has an operational ADA lift. Greyhound buses have 50-52 seats, so you actually have legroom between seats...which was one of many improvements before they got bought out. With Flixbus being so low, Greyhounds customer base has migrated over. So you wont get a consistent product. Since Flixbus bought Greyhound, which I believe was a big mistake, most of all the stations have been closed as part of Flixbus cost cutting measures, and also presents itself with safety issues for passengers waiting for a bus which have been documented by the media. Flixbuses dont maintain buses, but rather by the contractor.

The Germans have no intentions of owning bus depots and paying property taxes. The Germans will lease space at a city owned and operated bus depot though. Thus if a city doesn't own and operate a bus depot/train station the Germans will use a public sidewalk on not necessarily the main busy street hopefully nearby a hotel or restaurant... Flixbus and Greyhound are now owned by Germans...

Greyhound is unusable. It is not a service anyone can or should even try to use. Don't ever even consider trying to use it in any way whatsoever.

It was just fine (sitting in the front probably helps) the 3 years I took it to Syracuse from Boston for 80 round trip.
Now that the Lake Shore Limited is creeping back up in price, I might do it again one year; really like that layover in Albany for trains to connect from NYC though.

This is really disappointing, waitting one day for the bus and the only option I have to reschedule free.who will pay for wadting the whole day waiting, or it is take it ir leave it.They are almost only one on road so they start cut wifi and not caring about passengers .

I must be old fashioned, as I bring a book to read when riding on a train or bus... Expecting WIFI to work sufficiently in a moving bus through tunnels and under bridges is expecting too much...

I was jumped and beaten by a bunch of White hooligans in the UK in 1984, because I was black. So not everywhere is perfect.

you realize New York has better air quality in London, right?

Does that make it untrue that the NY air was heavily polluted at that moment?

People get shot to death at the Chicago greyhound depot.

Things can happen anywhere. Of course things have gone worse but I have taken greyhound many times while I was in Chicago from 2012 to 2019. It was sketchy at times and I guess the smell of weed would be stronger. I have nothing against marijuana but i really hate the smell. Anywhere outside the North East; driving is the best way of traveling unfortunately for 4-7 hrs journey.
I won’t like to drive in NYC as a Bostonite but I would probably take the Amtrak.
