@Barton Dean Yeah I liked Hoosiers, but I'm not a huge basketball fan. One of my favorites of all time is Crimson Tide, really underrated sub film. He was great in Enemy of the State too, even though it was a small role.
I believe Hackman refused to come in and do the final voice over work because he thought the movie was going to suck. He got sent a rough copy and was in disbelief of how good it was. He then went in and did the final voice over work.
Correct. Similarly, Anspaugh, Angelo Pizzo, and producer Carter de Haven screened the film for Jerry Goldsmith, who had very low expectations. At the end of the screening, Goldsmith was so still that the other three men thought he had fallen asleep. He turned around, his eyes filled with tears, and said to his friend de Haven, "You son of a bitch, you knew I'd fall for this movie." Jerry's asking price to score a movie was well outside of the HOOSIERS budget, but after his screening, he told the filmmakers that he'd score the picture for whatever they could afford to pay him. He got an Oscar nomination for the music -- and should have won!
