    Sarah, absolutely love love love what you've done to Gump so far. Definitely what Japan should have given the US market. You're doing a great job on ALL of your projects. And don't beat yourself up trying to please anybody. All real car people knows there is a lot of jobs on project cars that is not fun and boring but essential to a build. Again you're doing a great job.

I’m finished, look at my engine compartment and, and , and START CLEANING IT WITH A TOOTHBRUSH. After a while I stop, thank Sarah for putting that crap in my mind and continue….. so a 20 mins affair turned in to a 2 hour project. But w/o honking my own horn, my ATS engine is clean! 😁 you see? • @philipmcmurtry4629

    I’d forgotten how much I hated hog rings until I watched this!! My apprenticeship in a Ford workshop in the UK 25 + years ago involved daily replacing seat foam and trims on MK6 Escorts. We used to open the old rings rather than cutting them. We also discovered that very small cable ties (called zip ties in the USA I think) worked just as well and were much easier to fit.

  • @ronaldmallette
    @ronaldmallette 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I bought some trim once....I was 18, it was the 80's....I was stationed in W. Germany and it was legal......OK that was a lot to share. If I have my druthers I'll choose the small butt plug option for the initial experience 😜.

    Dredging this one up from the archives... I always thought this project was just something odd (but still cool) you were doing by hopping up a station wagon with sportier parts that happen to fit. I just learned today that there is a whole "Forester Culture" out there when I saw a modified Forester with a "Forester Culture" sticker on the rear window. Not really my gig but it's always interesting to see groups united in a single car culture interest.

    For what it's worth, and for everyone's future reference, there is a hog ring removal tool. I used one when I reupholstered our old Forester. Saved me from having to buy new rings. Didn't really save much time over just cutting them, though. FYI, doing upholstery sucks! LOL My fingernails hurt just remembering it.

    Tip on dealing with foam, hit your neighborhood thrift store and find an electric carving knife. Makes super clean and easy to maneuver cuts in foam.
    Someone on another forum suggested cutting badges off with fishing line. I'm getting ready to deal with the badges on my Taco and had set aside some guitar strings (used to cut the glass implosion shields off the CRTs in the glass cockpits I made back in the day using piano wire) but fishing line seems less likely to scratch something up.
