    I received my stoma 3 weeks ago tomorrow. Stool movements are fine but having significant pain internally. How long did it take for your pain to ease? Skin I fine. This is more of an internal pain. Thanks

    1 month in after my ostomy surgery, I needed one done due to a car accident, luckily it’s reversible. Even after a month I still feel pain but I was told it’s normal, I take a walk mainly everyday and I think it’s helping a lot, getting my appetite back as well, for the most part it’s going better than I expected, was hard at first but getting easier day by day. Any advice you got for me ?

    How do I keep my pain under control when I could only take toradol or vicodin. I had a ruptured colon with peritonitis. The pain was severely out of control.

      Hi there. We have a video from Laura about traveling with an ostomy here on TH-cam: th-cam.com/video/G9x0xSx57kk/w-d-xo.html We also have an article written by Laura about stomas and seat belts: www.shieldhealthcare.com/community/ostomylife/2016/09/02/stomas-seatbelts-ask-laura/
      We wish you the best of luck with your diverticulitis. Please know that life after ostomy surgery can be a lot to adjust to, but many people find it much easier to live how they want. Let us know if you have any other questions!

    Great tips! Walking was a big one for me! I would have walked all day and night while recovering in the hospital, had it not been for a super-squeaky wheel on my IV pole! The nurses on the floor tried to grease the wheel with some hand lotion! That didn't work as planned!!!

    How will the appetite be after the ostomy surgery???? In how many days will one gain weight???

    • @Shieldhealthcare
      @Shieldhealthcare  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will probably take awhile before one's appetite comes back. When a patient is anesthetized for surgery and goes to sleep, their bowels are also put to sleep. Here are some tips about eating after surgery: www.securicaremedical.co.uk/advice-and-support/stoma-care/diet-with-a-stoma/reintroduction-of-food-after-stoma-surgery and another video from us: th-cam.com/video/SUTv-dkpxw4/w-d-xo.html As for how long it will take to gain weight, that varies from person to person. While it is important to put on weight if the patient's weight was too low for their body type, what's more important is eating healthy foods with the help of a doctor/nurse. Best of luck!

      How are you doing since it got reversed? If you don’t mind me asking, because I’m learning before I get my stoma 🙂

    • @nichellewalker51

      @@amberlewis6063 I’m okay for the most part but I’ve gained some weight and it makes my stoma area uncomfortable so I’m watching what I eat and trying everything to eat less more fruits and vegetables soups
