To add on, Shinee also popularized the idea of debuting as solo artists while still being in their respective groups. While not the first to do so (The Bigbang members, Hyuna, and 2ne1 members debuted as soloists before them) there was something about Taemin's debut that specifically set off a chain reaction of solo debuts in 2014 to today. There's something intriguing about the fact that Taemin was the first SM artist that was already in a group to make a solo debut. It was only after HIS debut that some of his SENIORS in the industry like members of SNSD and Super Junior made their debuts, while still being active in their own group. Kpop is mostly known for their groups, but Taemin/shinee proved that you can be successful as a solo artist without having to leave your group. And I think him not technically being a main vocalist in his group, yet still proving his excellent vocals and performance presence, also played a role in influencing multiple idols to make solo debuts.
I think you absolutely can make the case for this! Taemin really did set off a chain reaction. While he may not have been the first, I think he helped normalize the concept. Something that still isn't super common outside of K-Pop, but if it ever does catch on perhaps in the west -we know where we can trace it back to.
@@JonathanMillerMusic absolutely! As a fan who's been following shinee since 2012, I couldn't help but notice a major influx of solo debuts specifically after Taemin debuted. Sunmi debuted only after WG disbanded, and when Hyuna made her debut, many people gave her more attention than her group members and then eventually the group disbanded while Hyuna is still around. Taemin showed that you can debut and explore new concepts and express your own individuality as an artist without having to separate from your group
also iirc it was seen as like,, a betrayal to debut solo before then. like fans would go after group members for debuting solo and accuse them of abandoning the group. it's now a much more commonly accepted thing and group fans want members to make solo debuts while still in their group.
IKR!!! I always say this!!! I was there to watch Taemin's debut and I used to joke with my cousins that he started a trend because after his debut, it was like everyone was solo debuting! We were SM stans, so it was a festival of solo debuts for us. We loved it and definitely noticed that it was because of Taemin😂❤
Key's styling for View is also why we have such variety in stage outfits now. At the time it was all about "sexy concepts" like suits, and he gave us casual clothing
it’s so satisfying to see people praising shinee. it’s been 15 years and they are still here, still popular and still inspire other people. shinee is truly a talented, amazing and unique group. i can’t even explain how proud and amazed i am of them thank you for this video and for another reminder why shinee is such a wonderful group
I,m A US . International and Global Fandom / SHawol . I Love Good 😌 Music , All over the Entire World 🌎 . And I Knows When a Group ! Is Phenomenal Talented and Stellar Level Status . SHIINee , Celebrating 15 Th. Anniversary ! And Still SHINING in 2023 . That’s STELLAR and PHENOMENAL ( Period ) . 💎💎💎💎💎⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👑👑👑👑👑💎🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😊
The thing about Jonghyun is that he wasn't really silent about his personal struggles. Of course nobody knew the full extent of it, but he was actually more open about mental health, both his own and in general, than I've seen most celebrities be, especially in kpop where there is even more stigma surrounding it. I really respected him for that and it made me feel less alone.
view started a huge trend of deep house music because I vividly remember almost every kpop group there is started to release deep house songs for several years. view also started a fashion trend, like headband and that girl power tank that key wore
You got me tearing up and stuff when you mentioned their support for the lgbtq+ community. Especially the bit about Jonghyun and the trans-bisexual student. I’m a trans-masc individual who was cis while SHINee was still 5 (obvi they’re still and always will be 5) Jonghyun was a large spark of my happiness when I was growing up and he’d be so proud of me for finding myself. God I miss him so much :(
As a Shawol I want to thank you for this insightful video. This is one of the most well done videos on SHINee that I’ve ever seen. I really like how you touched on the mental health aspect in Kpop, it really needs to be addressed more openly and help needs to be given to any idol that is struggling. I have noticed since the tragic loss of Jonghyun, more Kpop companies are taking mental health seriously and giving artist time off to take care of their mental health. There is still a lot more that needs to be done but hopefully Kpop will continue to go in the right direction for the overall health of their artist.
Thank you. I've been with Kpop a long time and I agree with you. Seeing mental health become less and less of a taboo subject in Kpop is really a wonderful thing to see. We may have lost a few angels but slowly but surely things are changing and improving. Hopefully The Shiny Foundation will also continue to be able to help with that change too! 💙
I’m not exaggerating when I say that literally no other group has stayed this relevant for this long. There’s not a single other group that’s still going this string after a decade and a half with not a single member choosing to leave. Couple that with the fact that even going through so much trauma and loss with Jonghyun? SHINee is quite literally unmatched in every possible way.
I wish you'd gone more into Jonghyun's other charity and philanthropist work. On that note, the insane work culture and the negative stigma, particularly in Asia, is a massive contributor to issues of mental illness and how it's viewed and treated. In some places, if you list that you have some sort of illness/disorder you won't be hired for employment because companies fear it will affect your work ethic. Jonghyun suffered from depression, likely Seasonal Affective Disorder, for years and he openly spoke about it. His "therapist" blamed him for his depression and suggested that he was the one responsible for his feelings. That on top of that, the insane pressures and grueling schedules of the K-Pop industry and the public eye all contributed to his death. He truly needed a long break, he needed medical intervention.... otherwise I honestly don't think he would've made it any longer than he had. And it saddens and infuriates me that it took his suicide for the industry to pause and start focusing on the mental and physical health of their artists. It's not a massive improvement, obviously, and there is still a lot of work to be done in regards to that but.... *sigh*
From the bottom of my heart & soul as were your inspiring words came from, thank you Jonathan. I am simply a 57 year old post menopausal widow who has anxiety and panic attacks but also struggled in resorting to medicine. I only discovered SHINee 3 years ago and my life was never the same again. It might sound silly or exaggerated but I dont really care. SHINee has given me so much joy and comfort esp. during bad days. SHINee have accompanied me in my life journey. SHINee most likely will never meet me or know me but the amount of gratefulness I have for these 5 men is overflowing. I can never repay them personally but I will forever support and pray for their good health, peace of mind and true happiness because they deserve it and at the end of the day, it is all that really matters. God bless you Jonathan…🙏🏽
Aww, it's not exaggerated -I totally get it! I'm happy to hear SHINee has made such an impact on your life. Music is timeless even if trends come and go because it will always be embedded into our hearts and minds. It captures our feelings at different times in our lives for us to remember. I'm happy you enjoyed my video. Thank you for sharing your story! Do you have any favorite SHINee songs? 💙💎
Hi Cecile, you aren't alone. I can't repay them either. But i do what i can to help that they will not be forgotten. Sometimes the little things makes the difference.
I appreciated your post, as I am a 70+ widow who had given up on music decades before. Then a rather interesting journey took me from Dimash Kudaibergen (who, if you haven’t discovered, REALLY should) to EXO, then Shinee, Super Junior, Super M, and Astro (mainly because of Moon Bin). These groups and kdramas make up 99% of my listening and watching.
2nd gen groups like shinee, snsd, 2ne1, bigbang and super junior really molded kpop into the kpop we know today. From personalized lightsticks and photocards to the level of performance groups are expected to show today. And it is because of these legends that kpop got to the global platform that it has today as a music genre and an art form.
Thank you so much for this. Shinee was one of the first boy groups I was exposed to when my sisters started listening to kpop, and they've had a lasting impression on me both as a music lover and a musician. I appreciate that you put their fame in context of the technological constraints at the time - a lot of newer/younger fans forget that youtube views were a much different dynamic than now. Thank you! 💎💎💎💎💎
Thank you! I feel this completely! SHINee made a pretty big impression on me as a musician (and person) so even though this vid has been requested for years I wanted to wait for a special time. 💙 I find providing context in history has helped a lot of younger kpop fans understand things like TH-cam views which weren’t as big of a necessity back then. Like there’s a reason a lot of Gen2 kpop acts don’t have mega stream numbers, it’s because streaming gained wayyyy more popularity after the generation was beginning to shift into the next. Doesn’t mean they weren’t popular though! Hahaha I’m happy you enjoyed the vid! 💙💎💙💎💙💎
I’m a Baby Shawol at 35yo, but I’ve heard Shinee songs in my high school days. I wasn’t very much into kPop then but I have a more profound admiration for kPop more specifically, Shinee. 💙💙💙 Thanks for this vid. Happy 15th year, Shinee!
shinee was there when i was a child so you could say i quite LITTERLY grew up with shinee and the impact theymade on music is so much bigger then anyone has and sadly will give them credit for
Thank you so so much Jonathan. Sometimes I feel sad because newer groups overshadow the old ones a lot, but this video made me really proud to be a Shawol! It’s also in moments like when Jinki received his first win with Circle, 15 years into his career, or when Shawols made SM change the venue for the fanmeet, that I feel like people still give the same amount of love to SHINee. I really loved how you explained things and went deep into detail, this made me realize that SHINee‘s legacy truly is huge. You‘ve earned yourself a new subscriber! :)
TYSM Lara! SHINee's legacy deserves to be remembered and I hope my video contributes to some positive experiences for Shawols. I'm really proud of how far they've come and how they still continue to do so well. It's absolutely deserved.
as a shawol for more than 8 years, I firmly believe that non-shawols need to see this because yea they get discredited and disrespected here and there. and thank you for the video
Thank you!! I really appreciate people sharing this video. Not only does it help me grow as a content creator, but like you said, it might help change some hearts and minds and ultimately that is my goal with deep dives like this. I'm glad you liked it!
YESSS, many need to put respect on their names for what they have done for the Kpop industry. So many forget how much influence they had in their era and the insane amount of idols that look up to them, I hope shawols don't try to compare Shinee to other groups(by putting others down) But just be happy for them and praise them directly because Shinee are on their own level and shouldn't be compared.
@@maggot2259 like i have been in this fandom for long as yk, but i have never seen shawols putting other idols down. it's always other way down and even tho we try to defend it's just SHINee gets more disrespected so we just give up. things shawols go through everyday is actually insane'
@p P They have tho, as u said, it usually happens the other way around, but I have seen many times Shawols comparing taemin with other dancers and Shinee vocals with other singers, and I've been a shawol since sherlock era, but again it's usually the other way around but I did notice recently, more(new) shawols compare Shinee to other groups.
@@pirateprincess5969 But I 100% get you, shawols go thru a lot, especially after Jjongs passing, many people like to use his death for views and even to make fun of the group. It gets frustrating
dude i'm so glad i happened upon this in my feed! i love your sense of humor and delivery style and of course i love love LOVE the celebration of my favorite group ❤️❤️❤️ i came in around lucifer/sherlock era and holy cannoli i am so proud of our boys ;-; most of the music on my phone is shinee and i have a tattoo for jonghyun 💕 thank you so much for sharing them with a wider audience!! this is so informative and i really enjoyed every bit! thank you 🥰
Several months ago I was working on a project to introduce my older brother (I'm 66, he's north of 70) to K-pop. He is a professional musician and sound engineer. I decided I would show him primary artists from each "generation" to show the evolving nature of this art form. And of course SHINee had to be one of those. Then I went in search of documentaries about SHINee's career and all I could find were the robot voices: Intro to SHINee. They are very well meaning. And Hearing the robots talking would send him around the bend. So I momentarily gave up on my history of K-pop and important artists of each period. Until today. Thank you for this incredible essay. The larger historical themes are so vital to understanding the music produced. You did that beautifully. Creating a context for these fine artists. And you handled the vital role that Jonghyun played/plays with such candor and sensitivity. Thank you. I'm on my way to make a donation to Shiny Foundation right now. Happy anniversary SHINee and happy anniversary Shawols.
Omg that's fantastic! Thank you so much! I'm really happy to hear that you A) want to be involved and B) felt that my video warranted such nice things to say. I hope your older brother continues to open his mind to K-Pop. I have plenty of other videos like this one all about K-Pop history and select groups/soloists that maybe can help. Don't give up trying to share with him!! 💙 Thank you again!
This video was so well done. I’ve been a Shawol since 2012 and I even lived and worked in South Korea from 2016-2022. I met them at a fansign. I saw Key play Usnavi in In the Heights. I saw Onew in two of his military musicals. And Minho? Bless the kid who literally changes schedules around due to the South Korean soccer team. Plus, he’s part of Kyuline. And for Baby Cheese Taemin himself? I’m so happy he’s back because he is such an artist. I’ve been to his solo concerts. It’s amazing. Jonghyun is still my ult. I went to both of his solo concerts. And…I was there when it all went down. I don’t want any fan of any group to go through that. SHINee is five. They will always be five. And now they’re back again, continuing their legacy. I love these boys with all my heart. SHINee has done so much for the industry and people don’t recognize it.
I felt it when you spoke about mental health and the impact that Jonghyuns death had on the industry and how aware people have now become about this taboo subject that shouldn't be a taboo at all..the lump in your throat had me in tears as well..stay strong and yes don't be silent ❤ Jonghyun had saved many people's life through his blue night radio and even after his death he must've saved so many by making people aware of depression and the forms that it comes in..I love SHINee and I'm a proud Shawol
3rd gen and 4th gen fans should give a HUUUUGE amount of respect not only to SHINee but to the whole 2nd gen. If we're talking about paving the way, it's 2nd gen, FOR SURE. I am not discrediting the efforts of the new groups but to remind the fans that if it weren't for the Sunbaes, kpop wouldn't be what it is today. Thank you so much for this video. SHINee rarely gets the attention they deserve. I hope people get to know more about them. They are legends indeed!
Thank you! It's funny you mention Gen2 Kpop as a whole cuz I actually did a video about KARA a few months ago talking specifically about why Gen2 deserves more love than it gets nowadays! haha 💙
Amazing video. Never in a million years have i thought that i would be listening to kpop in my 20s, i used to be a grunge girlie and i looked down on kpop because i thought that it was soulless and mass produced garbage. SHINee literally broke every single stereotype i had about kpop and the kpop industry and taught me that it's okay to let myself have fun for once, and their discography is just so massive and diverse you are guaranteed to find something that you like. They've been consistently putting out quality music and performances for 15 years and continue to do so earnestly. It's also incredibly rare to find a group where every single member is talented and successful in so many different fields and they're the first and only sm group so far in which every single member is a soloist. I always joke that SHINee's is actually sm's first supergroup even before unique because every single member is talented and successful. Jonghyun opened the door for so many young songwriters to became kpop idols and taemin's influence on junior idols is undeniable and i could even argue that the success of his solo career is the reason why so many idols are getting chances to debut as soloists as well. Their choreos set the current standard for kpop dances, they were the first group to perform such difficult and intricate choreos and the fact that they're such great vocalists makes it even more impressive. Their laid back fashion during odd inspired so many different stylists and marked the change from stage costumes to refreshing and youthful trendy clothes. They're industry icons for a reason and they've been achieving constent success even though they were never sm ent's priority
💙 Thank you and I love that they helped open your mind to Kpop. There's a lot of misconceptions about the genre and industry and I'm happy SHINee has made their mark, aiming to dismantle some of them. I'm really happy they've made a lasting impression on you too. Do you have any fave SHINee songs?
@@JonathanMillerMusic i love so many of their songs and my faves keep changing lol but i would say odd eye, electric heart, close the door, y.o.u and shift are some of my all time favorites
@@Yoonji9212 glady! I would recommend y si fuera ella, honesty, alarm clock, symptoms, diamond sky and password (these last two songs are in japanese but they're just as good as their korean songs). They did experiment with pop rock with their song why so serious but this one tends to be a hit or miss with the fans (personally i love how explosive and energetic it is) As for ballads and slow songs, they have plenty: y si fuera ella (already recommended it) please don't go, in my room, an encore, selene 6.23, sleepless night, close the door, aside, quasimodo, an ode to you, moon river waltz, i say, beautiful life and area are some of my favorites (i tried sharing a playlist but youtube won't let me post links in the comments 💔)
Just to add another reason why SHINee is just so amazing Even after the tragic loss of Jonghyun, the members find a way to include him in their music videos, in their album, in their promotion. They truly are 5HINee and I love that the members make that very clear so that old and new fans alike will always remember Jonghyun.
I got into to k-pop through SHINee and ended up not having any room for any other k-pop act.......having them to stan is incredibly MORE THAN ENOUGH!!!! so charming, super talented, and real pros, yet still humble...... I love them so much as a group and as individuals......their work never disappoints....always growing and innovative, never stuck to a genre.....and surprisingly, their music never seem to get outdated.....Replay still sounds fresh now 15 years later .....AND after 15 years, they slay their stage performances way better than most younger artists in the industry.....I will be always be a SHAWOL and will continue to do so even if they do decide to retire from the entertainment industry and have quiet lives out of the spotlight.....I pray that they continue to lead healthy, happy and contented lives.....Happy 15th year Anniversary, my SHINee boys (now men!.....but, you'll remain my boys even when you're old and wrinkly : ) I am just so proud of you!!!! thank you @JonathanMillerMusic for sharing this tribute....God bless ya for doing so !
I’ve been a kpop fan for as long as I have had access to the internet. Now, my love for it has dwindled out as a genre, but I still love SHINee, despite being tapped out of the new generation of artists. SHINee’s music has had a deep impact on me. Being a black kpop fan, their inspirations and connection with r&b meant a lot. They pay respects when its due. They appreciate culture. Their fashion inspired me. Their personalities were golden. Being a SHAWOL over the past 10 years has been a wild ride. Thank you for this documentary. SHINee is an amazing group and small videos don’t do them justice. Their impact is GLOBAL and their legacy is still building to this day.
🥺 Thank you for sharing your story as a black kpop fan. It's ok to grow out of things but I'm glad SHINee still holds a special place in your heart!! 💙💎
I'm glad someone noticed this. Even as Korean, not many Koreans know Shinee inspired future k-pop generations and industry as a whole. Most people just think "It was one of 2nd gen boy group" and that's it.
@@jops1004 it's really just the dance synch lol and i have seen the video. Solo success of a member without leaving the group and popularization began from bigbang
I listen to shinee music everyday. May be there are other kpop group whose music we play but after that era is over, we gradually forget it. But for shinee, their music is like wine, as days passing by, it's becoming stronger. It's the only kpop group music who touched me to the heart even when I don't exactly know the lyrics. Also all 5 of them are proved legends individually in their career too
Your deepdive has to be one of the BEST deepdives on any topic ive ever seen. It was so respectful and extensive enough that will allow even a non-kpop fan to understand the deep impact SHINee has in Kpop. It saddens me when the new generation of Kpops disregard 2nd gen artist like SHINee because new artist are a constant on topping charts and the big audience they receive in views and listens. SHINee is so impactful because during their time, they managed to stay relevent even to new artist and stay consistent. Overall, SHINee never forgets their roots and are always humble of who they are. Ive been a Shawol since 2013 and they have healed me with their unique music and personalities. Jonghyun death really impacted and hurt me to the point i couldnt listen to SHINees music for a year, but as time went by i realized how important it is to honor Jonghyun and have returned to be an even proudrr Shawol. Forever 5HINee💙
THANK YOU! You cannot imagine how much this video meant to me. SHINee as a whole was the reason I got back into creating music after many years of just performing because I was used to it. With SHINee being my ultimate favorite K-Pop group, I love how much effort, honesty, and love you put into this video, even commenting on how they aren't just pretty faces and that they're outspoken, headstrong individuals who really commit to their artistry. Concerning the whole cyberbullying thing and how outspoken the group is--FUN FACT: Jonghyun's posthumous album "Poet | Artist" has a song called "Waffle" that talks about hate comments on the internet. I also love how you mentioned Key's (Key-buhm not key-boom) comment in 2021 about how treating Jonghyun like a taboo topic is a disservice to his passion of music and love of his craft. That's just my personal opinion, and I do agree that is it 100% okay to still have troubles talking about Jonghyun (though I will gush about his abilities for HOURS). SHINee as a whole, though, are an impressive musical and social landmark that I feel really get overlooked. Once again, thank you so much for this video essay. :) Sincerely, an independent artist who loves SHINee.
Here a month after this post. Shinee is sweeping the music shows. They grew their tick took from 8$M+ at the start of July to $13M+ and climbing. Also a great performance o; music Live. I discovered through Jimin, and Minho, but I stayed for their music and overall humanity. I wish them the world.
I'm at the 2:39 mark and I just want to say SHINee had such a positive young impact on me that I still have trouble listening to their music with Jonghyun because it hurts me to know how much he was hurting. I never listened to his last album. This comeback (HARD) has actually brought me a bit back because I truly miss them. But it's hard to see Jonghyun and not think of what happened. So I totally understand what you mean about the professional and personal influence his death had on you. It still affects me today. It's one of the reasons I sought help for my own depression - because I promised I would live well, to both Jonghyun and Sulli. So thank you in advance for the respectful way you warned about this topic and for not showing funeral images/videos. That is very kind of you ♥
I just got into K-pop this year with SHINee. Honestly the whole BTS craze kept me away from it for a long time. But once I listened to SHINee I fell in love. I’m so thankful I found them but also massively disappointed I didn’t get the chance to know them sooner. Thank you so much for breaking down their careers for people like me who just want to appreciate them even if we are a little late!
I'm joining you - new to K-pop this year because apparently I've been living under a rock... Actually I am just totally disillusioned with US music industry so I had just turned it all off. Learned about Shinee after seeing Minho in Hwarang. This video was really informative.
@@HailToTheMeepMy army friends were listening exclusively to their group until they met SHINee, lol. They were taken with their professionalism and talents in live performance, songwriting, vocals, dance, visuals. Watching SHINee in reality shows really sold them though 💜
I didnt give kpop a chance until i discovered Shinee. They got me interested in a whole genre that i previously wasnt listening to at all. Their live performances won me over. Now im a happy Shawol. Shinee is just that group!
Jonghyun's song "Breathe" saved my life. I didn't want to live anymore, but then I heard the song. I then started to decide that I will get up every day with positive thoughts. I have depression.
You did such a wonderful job in giving SHINEE their flowers. I have been a big fan of SHINEE for 11 years. Love this group, and to me they are the best!! Always 5, no more no less!
As a new Shawol i really appreciate you including birdview of what was happening back then in terms of world events and popular culture. They contextualize just how massive shinee is outside of “streaming numbers”.
Yes they really really were. 😔 I will admit it is very difficult for me to do a video on f(x) because of Sulli as they played a massive role in my music career at one point and I owe them, SNSD and SHINee a lot. One day though, when I'm mentally and emotionally able to, I would like to do something similar to this video for f(x) and in tribute to Sulli. It's just not time yet. 💙
Almost 10 years ago I was a big fan of another k-pop group. Of course I heard of Shinee but never was interested in their music, and thought that Shinee is definitely not the group I could ever like. Oh, I was so wrong! I started discovering their music after Taemin's 'Move' cause I was wondered how talented Shinee must be if Taemin is their 'less skilled singer'. I am not a shawol but I am totally into their songs (especially later albums), voices (my favorite one is Onew's voice), performances and personalities. I can't wait to see their comeback this summer)
Thank you for the information! I knew a bit about Shinee because of Minho and his acting. A person mentioned the BTS craze. Well, BTS learned from those that came before like Big Bang and Shinee. The second generation made so many innovations that influenced the 3rd and future generations.
I became a Shawols 5 years ago. My introduction to K-pop was SHINee, I mean Jonghyun. All these five talented young men locked me up in their SHINee world. I'm open to any talented group or solo singers. But still, I'm a diehard fan of live-singing performances. So, I'm not lying still, anyone couldn't reach the SHINee quality(In my mind)💖💎🥰
Been in the kpop game since I was about 8 or 9, I grew up with SHINee's influence as a dancer and a person who creates art. Their effect on me has not changed, ever. They are unforgettable.
Shinee is genuinely one of the kindest sweetest wittiest funniest group I’ve ever seen and will continue to support for the rest of my life. I remember back when SM was on top. My faves were BoA, Shinhwa, Fly to the Sky, DBSK. Smtown christmas and summer music videos were amazing. Shinee came in after I was jaded from SM’s treatment of DBSK and starting to get bored of kpop in general. They were another 5 member vocal group ~but younger~ and their skinny jeans put me off. Then JoJo and ring ding dong happened and they’ve had me in a chokehold ever since. Anyway, thanks for coming to my tedtalk, loved the video!! I need that DBSK deep dive because SM did them sooooo dirty and people need to know about it.
At first I was kinda scared of the 37 minutes this video is long, but I didn‘t got bored at all! Thank you very much for this well researched, informative video
As a die-hard Shawol for about twelve years now, the appearance of this video in my recommended must have been a gift from some higher being because it reminded me in the most wonderful way just how much these boys have done and how proud of them I am, and it also reassured me that they still receive so much love to this day even after everything that's happened in the past few years. Despite being a fan for that long, I still learned so much about our SHINee from this video. I will forever be grateful to these men, and I'm incredibly grateful to you for creating such an informative and well-researched piece of content that highlights and celebrates all of SHINee's incredible achievements with such admiration and appreciation.
hahaha awww thank you so much. I'm grateful the algorithm sent it to you. It's been a real treasure to hear from Shawols on this video that's filling me with so much love and nostalgia. I'm grateful you watched it and enjoyed it. Thank you so much! 💙💎
My favorite thing during don't call me era was watching reaction videos of people seeing SHINee for the first time. Second favorite was seeing so many people saying "That's Taemin? I have never heard him like that?" because they came to know Taemin while the rest of the boys were in the military so they only knew him as a soloist or as part of Super M (super M kinda pains me to this day, tbh, so much wasted potential.). They are brilliant singers and amazing dancers and great composers. They are so amazing. To me, Onew has the best male voice of the second generation - versatile, powerful, boyish and charming - and Jonghyun the best male voice of kpop, period: its golden and warm, could be sexy af but it was never sleazy, a masculine voice that dripped honey, and he could also go so high with it and hold powerful notes forever. Key's voice is unique and he's a whole artist with a personal and unique vision of what he wants his music to sound and look like, if Bad Love was not the best soloist album of 2021, I'll eat my hat. Minho, he is all charisma and charm and a beautiful voice and a talented actor. And Taemin, our baby cheese, he's funny and multi talented and loves his cats!, they are seriously the cutest cats to ever cat. he's a point of reference for so many young idols, he's his own legend.
When I watched 'Sherlock' I am immediately hooked! Then I listened to 'Atlantis' like 10000000 times and never get sick of it!! It's amazing how this group survive after the loss of an extremely talented young man. I will be Shawol forever and I hope we will never lose them!!! P.S Minho omg 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
This is one of the best SHINee deep dives I've ever watched, if not the best. The information is factual and even includes backgrounds of how this genre came to be. The way you also tackled Jonghyun's life and death is the most respectful I've ever seen anyone do. Thank you for making this deep dive into SHINee. I very much appreciate it and will share to the babywols I come across 🥺💖
Really? 🥺 Thank you so much. I really did my best. I know Jonghyun can be a difficult subject for some fans and I full y respect that, but he really doesn't need to be. He was a good person, kind-hearted, talented, and deserves to be remembered and celebrated. SHINee is 5 forever and always. 💙💎
@@JonathanMillerMusic yes exactly. He is not just another sob story that people can throw about wherever and whenever they please. He is so much more than that. He is an artist, a musician, a composer, a writer, a producer, an inspiration to us fans, a friend who listens to his peers, a close brother to SHINee, a wonderful brother to his sister, and the best son to his mother. He is Kim Jonghyun, and he should be remembered as such. 😌💖
I’m soo happy there are so many people who honor SHINee.. they’re very exceptional in everything. They’re influence on Shawols can also be seen. I’ve been working hard to boldly chase my dream of becoming a versatile artist since I discovered them on July 18, 2022.. Happy anniversary to 5HINee💎💎💎💎💎
taemin got me into kpop roughly 4 years ago, so he and shinee will always be so special to me. even if im mainly an exo fan now (though the two are so closely linked to each other (not stylistically but as labelmates and friends of each other), shinee holds a place in my heart no other group could reach. anyway thank you for this video. i always knew how incredible shinee is but this just confirms it once again edit: moonbin meant quite a lot to me (still does), so when key and taemin where some of the first idols to publically pay their respects even though i dont think theyd ever met him personally... it meant a lot. like, it hurt, but it helped. their resilience and strength but also openness about their feelings after losing someone they were so close to, jonghyun, it gave me hope when i felt horrible. i didnt know moonbin like they knew jonghyun of course and i never could, so i dont directly want to compare the pain i feel to what they mustve gone through, but either way seeing them laugh in a random funny shinee moments video reminded me that im going to be okay even if the pain feels endless.
And they overcame they 8 years curse as well. They are still going and I highly doubt they will stop. I've said it before and I will say it again. SHINee is the Queen of Kpop.

I discovered kpop after the finebros released their "youtubers react to kpop" and Lucifer was one of the songs they reacted to and I immediately fell in love and sought out as much media involving them as I could. For a while they were literally the only band I listened to and it wasn't until my friend in high school introduced me to other artists that I decided to expand my kpop bands. I remember the day I heard about Jonghyun's passing. I was at work and my friend texted me about it and I had to take a break off the floor to collect myself. This group, for the longest time, were literally what kept me alive. I was extremely depressed in high school and the only thing keeping me going was not wanting to miss out on my favorite band's new releases. I'd tell myself "I'll wait for this release at least" over and over again. I owe so much to this group and many who came after, they truly gave me something to latch onto, something to look forward to, something to make it through another day. I even got to have the honor of seeing them in concert the same year that Jonghyun passed away. It's surreal to go back and watch the videos I took, knowing that I got to witness firsthand one of the last times we'd see him alive. Thank you for this beautiful touching memory and honor to them and all they have accomplished. They will forever be my number one, and they will forever be a 5 member band.
: SUBSCRIBE! Happy 15th Anniversary SHINee x Shawols! 💙💎 Thank you so much for watching. This was such a special video for me to make, I really hope you enjoy it. Also, I wanted to make something clear. My fleeting mention of Moonbin in this video is NOT intended to cause any harm. His family's statement was not available when I made this video so please DO NOT take this as intention spread of misinformation! 💙Anyway, what are your fave SHINee songs? Also, consider joining me and supporting The Shiny Foundation here: www.shiny.or.kr/99
First, I want to give you a big hug. I can hear the shivering in your voice when you talk about Jonghyun. It's okay not to be okay, It's okay to cry, laugh or scream as much as you want if it makes you feel okay. I want you to say that you doing a great job♥️ Talking about Jjong, f people were a little more understanding of him still he would be with us. If people were a little more sensitive and kind... He was such a sweet person, people should have protected him. We lost a great talent, great new melodies, great music, great literature. More than anything else a great human being. I cannot describe how sad, and painful it is to know such a talented, honest, kind, and sensitive young man only after he e gone. He has protected my life many times, and SHINee has protected me. I miss all of them together💔
@@priyankaneelawala7384 Thank you so much, that's so sweet of you. The hugs are received and reciprocated to you! 💙 Jonghyun may be gone but he will never be forgotten as long as those of us who are here continue to celebrate his legacy. I miss him so much but I hope some good comes from this video too, in his memory. 💙
Asking me a favorite SHINee song is torture 😂😅 Kimi Ga Iru Sekai, 1000 Years Always By Your Side, Days and Years, Code, An Encore, Who Waits For Love are just a few of so many faves 😊 Thank you so much for creating such a sincere and well researched video about SHINee. You did amazing! Much love ❤️
I think the only thing you missed is how much better that sound when performing live . And how despite the loss of their brother they somehow managed to still perform and show their respect to him even now in a way I haven't seen any other artists do .
Shinee was one of the first Kpop groups I saw in early YT days, I still remember thinking Jonghyun was handsome, he was my favorite, I couldn't believe it when he died and I didn't think I'd cry as much as as I did for a celebrity. Everybody acts like they want people to openly talk about mental health struggles, but when the time comes, they run tf away. They don't believe the person or are simply annoyed by their depression, like they don't want to deal with it and tell them to get over it, lol. I hope Onew okay, he seems like he's struggling with something serious, not sure if he'll come back to Shinee, but hope he does.
Still miss him and his incredible talent but I am so happy that they have gone on. I am a 70 year old grandma who loves all Asian pop groups. My education started in 1999 when while in Japan with my students I was introduced to The Kinki Kids.
You nailed it when you were talking about mental health. I worked in mental health for 20+ years and battle with my own issues. Lack of resources, silence, and stigma is its biggest problem. I now work with victims from all forms/levels of abuse and the silence/stigma on that is just as bad. I know that all too well as a survivor myself. Why I changed careers. This is amazing though. You truly captured everything that makes SHINee the phenomenal sensation that they are.
From one survivor to another, you have my deepest empathy. Working 20+ years in an industry that is so often overlooked and stigmatized is no easy task. Thank you for the work that you’ve done! It may not always feel like it but I’m certain you made an impact too! 💙
@Jonathan Miller Music Thank you. I love the part where you mentioned we shouldn't stay silent because we shouldn't. Mental health, abuse, and all forms of hate. We shouldn't stay silent. We need to speak up. A friend and I are working on starting a ministry to help victims gain their voices. I'll be doing all the tech and mental health stuff and his focus will be faith-based healing. He's a survivor himself. He has a degree in Bible Theology and mine is psych, so we'll make a great team. Both of us have started mental health services with our own churches. So I hope it brings you joy to know that there is a great number of people who are working hard to end that stigma and silence of it all.
adding onto kibum - i think an important thing is that he's been completely in charge of the revolutionary concepts and creative direction of his solo work since bad love and is known for literally fighting the company for them lmao
I learned about Kpop in 2011 after seeing SHINee on SNL Korea, and I have loved them ever since!! I'm so happy that are still going strong in 2023!! Such a POWERFUL group!!
Add: - Goo Hara experienced domestic violence and sexual violence, and not only struggled with that abuse, but the tolls of significant post-separation abuse, and ongoing legal action. Her industry peers were among her greatest support networks, and her brother, Goo Ho-In, has been quite rightly outspoken about all of this. Her case isn't a searing indightment of the entertainment industry and falling through the cracks of mental health battles in k-pop specifically, rather of systemic and cultural issues we navigate of toxic masculinity, (mostly-)gendered violence, and the mis-management and failures of the services and organisations that should support those of us who've survived domestic abuse and rapes. To quote Ho-In directly, "unfortunately the punishment for partner violence in our country is too lenient, and protection for victims is too weak." - Moon Bin's cause of death was never made public (police stated no suspicious circumstances); the autopsy results were also never made public. His family have repeatedly asked the public to cease speculations of the circumstances and event. Though it may not be the intent, conflating his death with known mental health advocates (spec. depression) and cases of suicide does carry implicit suggestions, which goes against the family's wishes.
Thank you for this. SHINee was the reason I got into kpop back in 2011 and until today they are still my number one kpop group. It's sad how new kpop fans dont appreciate them when they have gone through so much and did so many good things. Also thank you for being so respectful talking about Jonghyun. I avoid most of the videos about SHINee because of the way they spoke about him.
I started watching Shinee bcz of Jjong more than a decade ago. Im still here. But its true that FTIsland and CNBlue got me into kpop. I had that tiny screen phone, and the yt video played in pixels, buffering for an hour, I sometimes laugh out loud bcz I was caught up in the hallyu wave so bad 😂 Bigbang, FtIsland, CNblue, Shinee, BAP... I lost my mind as a fangirl back then. In my mid thirties now, I feel sort of proud. ❤Shinee forever❤
Although I've known 2 kpop boy groups before SHINee, no one like them marked my heart for my life. I love many artists, but SHINee are simply gems in the world, the best for me, the legends.. They've helped me in my life believe it or not.. And most of all Jonghyun, whose music, songs, and words cheered me up in my darkest moments of my life.. If not him.. I wouldn't survive those hardships as I did.. I just.. I just feel guilty for that reason that he couldn't get such a support he's been to me.. I'll purely love him as long as I live.. His bright smile will always warm my heart.. My heart...
I understand. Don't feel guilty though. While we can't go back and change things, we can honor his memory by striving to do better in the future and spread compassion. He would want that, I think. 😊
WOW, Jonathan!! You did a SPLENDID job in this deep dive into 5HINee!! So important what you have been stressed out, most importantly about JongHyun, our Diamond in the Sky!! I am just a two years old Shawol, and I didn't know about Kpop in 2017, so to me Jjong is like a family member "just" not "present at the moment", but still very much present at the same time. I can't imagine how it must have been for our 5HINee hyungs, friends and family, and not at least Shawols, that tragic day in December 2017. I can never be grateful enough discovering 5HINee in May 2021 (with Love is like Oxygen) and learned about their tremendous bond together, and how Jjong ALWAYS will be present, and 5HINee will ALWAYS be 5 !! And more so, this bond reflects to us Shawols, where I have found the most warm and caring fandom in the whole industry! So proud to be a Shawol, and so proud to support our OT5! They are truly unique artists, because the label "idol" is not sufficient enough. They have moved beyond being "Princes of Kpop" to be the "ACE of Kpop. When they strated in 2008, they where diamonds in the making, and today we can enjoy and support these beautiful full shining diamonds. Not only are they on a whole other level in their artistry and gorgeous, stunning visuals, but their characters and personalities are unique as well. How can we not be in awe in a whole package like our 5HINee hyungs!! Every day is a 5HINee day, so lets SHINE!! HAPPY 15th ANNIVERSARY!! Keep up the good work! Love and greetings from Norway!!
Takk! Det er veldig snilt av deg! I'm sending love back to Norway! 🇳🇴 I like the way you described Jonghyun as our family member who's just not present at the moment. That's such a beautiful way to say it!
I'm with you in the Shawol age dept. While I did hear the news when Jonghyun left us, I wasn't a kpop listener at all. It has only been two...two and a half years since I actually began my kpop journey with Shinee and they are Literally the Only older gen group I stan. And they are Worth that devotion. I follow a few more groups now but Shinee will always be my First and the Standard that other groups should try to live up to. At least for me. 😁👍❤️❤️❤️
Usually, I am very particular about SHINee being in lists in their age order, Onew, Jonghyun, Key, Minho, Taemin. But now watching, I understand why Jonghyun’s story was at the end. Thank you ❤
As a SHAWOL I want to thank you for making this tribute to SHINee on their 15th debut anniversary. Very well thought out & informative for those who don’t know much about SHINee. They are truly influential artists both as SHINee & in their solo careers. Their contribution to K-pop is unmeasured in my opinion. I’m a fan of each of them & that isn’t always the case with a group. Thanks again!
YES!! Each and Every one of them is Amazing and So Incredibly Talented!! I have enjoyed collecting their solo albums and experiencing each of their unique voices in addition to Shinee itself. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
this is one of the most insightful videos about SHINee. They deserve all the praise and recognition for the enormous cultural impact on kpop and continues to do so. I have been listening to them lately and it makes me be in awe at how much they've evolved over time since 2008
Thank you for this video. I'm a BabyWol since I've only been listening to SHINee for a few months now but I really do believe they deserve their flowers (and then some ) and I honestly get so angry that they're "overshadowed "in a way by some of these current artists who imo are really not as talented as they are.I've literally listened to SHINee's live vocals and then the vocals of some of these hyped ones and I'm flabbergasted! Now,I'm not trying to discredit the current artists but for me, SHINee IS the standard. Their concepts, live vocals..everything is just so undeniably good. For me, they are the one of KPop's great pillars..I mean come on..I'm new to Kpop and even I can see that! I feel great when I see the younger groups doing their covers or claiming them as their inspiration..As they should.I always say without SHINee so and so wouldn't exist because they showed what was possible..what they could build on.After watching your video, I'll try to be less upset about this kind of thing and just know in my heart how much SHINee contributed to the industry, whether or not they are truly credited for them in the end or not. As a BabyWol, I really enjoyed your video. 💎💎💎💎💎 As for my fave SHINee songs..Lucifer...Everybody..Picasso..To your heart...Lucky Star. ..321... Nightmare..Orgel..ugh..too many lol..man SHINee really hits..
OMG yayyy! I'm glad you've found them and their music! They've done a lot for me as a person and artist so it makes me really happy to hear how they've affected so many people's lives no matter what age people are. I love it!
it is Jonghyun's voice that got me addicted to K-pop!!! AND when i'm asked why i listen to k-pop, i tell them listen to SHINee's Lucifer - once they do, they're hooked as well.
As a shawol, thank you for such a well spoken video and the delicacy yet honesty around Jonghyun's life and legacy!!! SHINee set precedent for many ideas and concepts that are normal to KPOP today. Additionally, my favorite fun fact is Show Champion implementing the three limit win after Dream Girl won four times in a row 😂
Thank you!!! As a Shawol, I really love how detailed and informative this is. I am also a huge fan of TAEMIN! I can't wait for what they will do next. I am excited for what Taemin, who has has a debut in 3 different generations, and has won best solo artist sooo many times, will do next. I also keep listening to Jonghyun today as if he were still alive. While so many groups have split, SHINee will keep shining for a looong time and I believe will never disband. 5HINEE 5orever! 💎Again, you're amazing! Keep going!
i read an article that stated that Jonghyun was the pioneer in collabs in Kpop. Its quite common now but when a decade ago, you wouldn't see artists from dif groups doing songs together especially from different companies.
Thank you for this video. It was lovely to hear someone speak with respect on Jonghyun. I still get nervous whenever I hear anyone mention Jonghyun, but he deserves to be spoken about and remembered to this day. He was lovely and talented and it would be heartbreaking for him to become taboo, like Kibum said. That being said, you got some tiny details a bit wrong in this video. Some of them are fine, like jonghyun was actually a part of SM the ballad vol 1 as well as 2, but you’re missing part of the story with jonghyun. I appreciate you bringing in your personal experiences and know how from the music industry talking about hate comments and such online, and I appreciate your honesty and sincerity in asking people to be kind and be open about their struggles-but you do this without acknowledging just how open Jonghyun was about his pain. He spoke somewhat regularly about depression on his radio show and admitted to struggling with SAD from his early teens. He was open about wanting to be happy and struggling to make choices that he thought would lead him to happiness and a more healthy life-that’s why he quit his midnight radio show. To have a more normal schedule and hopefully find some mental relief through that. I think all of his fans knew he struggled with mental illness. Way back, years ago, key also comforted a fan who was posting about self harming and opened up about his own struggles to them. I think SHINee has been open about their struggles and, as someone who has also struggled with suicidal ideation and major depression, their openness really fucking means the world to me, and I think it’s doing them (and specifically, jonghyun) and injustice to not mention it. I’d also be happy to help digging through for translations and the like to discuss this kind of thing
I really liked this video. SHINee has been my ultimate kpop grpup for 13 years now and its so frustrated to see them being disrespected by new kpop fans on twitter who really dokt understand how Kpop has changed through the years and Shinee's inpact in it.
I know what you mean. Certain twitter stans tend to disregard a lot of Kpop history, which is unfortunate, but that's part of the reason I make these types of videos. I wanna do my part to help open the eyes of those who are willing to. SHINee deserves all the love and shouldn't be forgotten. 💙
@@Walking_Spinel Absolutely!! :)))))
also iirc it was seen as like,, a betrayal to debut solo before then. like fans would go after group members for debuting solo and accuse them of abandoning the group. it's now a much more commonly accepted thing and group fans want members to make solo debuts while still in their group.
At the time it was all about "sexy concepts" like suits, and he gave us casual clothing
it’s so satisfying to see people praising shinee. it’s been 15 years and they are still here, still popular and still inspire other people. shinee is truly a talented, amazing and unique group. i can’t even explain how proud and amazed i am of them
thank you for this video and for another reminder why shinee is such a wonderful group
I know right?? I love seeing them continue to get the praise they deserve. I hope my video contributed to that.

Yes they deserve it all. They’re such kings. All the love and respect for them. So talented..😍❤️👑💎
Yes he was! Which already says a lot and how he contributed even back then to sparking conversations. I feel very similarly. 💙
view started a huge trend of deep house music because I vividly remember almost every kpop group there is started to release deep house songs for several years. view also started a fashion trend, like headband and that girl power tank that key wore
A kpop youtuber so respectful and actually informative? Wow I'm so shocked
Hahaha who knew it was possible! 🤯🤯🤯🤯
@@JonathanMillerMusic ty for all ur hard work.
God I miss him so much :(
In my opinion, on top of everything you just listed, Shinee is also one of the best live performers in the world.
Have you ever started crying because you were just so proud of a bunch of men who don’t even know you exist?
Yes! And did you think you could ever love five men you've never met so deeply?
SHINee is the boygroup standard
One of the best Anniversary Gifts to Shinee and Shawols.
OMG thank you! That's so sweet of you to say! I hope so!
@@JonathanMillerMusic I totally agree, too. I hope every person in the world gets the opportunity to go to a well-trained psychotherapist.
*sigh*
Many europian & american become kpopers because of shinee❤
Gracias por tan excelente recorrido por la historia musical de SHINee 💎💎💎💎💎 siempre serán 5
Hi Cecile, Nice to make your acquaintance in the comments section as a SHAWOL. Much love and strength to you!
Listen, we are right here with you. I am 60 and proud to be a fan of this fabulous, super talented, courageous group.
I came into kpop in 2021, through BTS, explored many groups for a while, but am now just a shawol. It speaks of their staying power.
Jonghyun was also on the first EP of SM the Ballad. Hot Times is iconic!
@@JonathanMillerMusic My children watched MTV. I watch K-pop MV's on my cellphone, with my grandchildren.
I am an OT5 Shawol and I will not tolerate akgaes who hide behind Jjong to devalue OKMT SHINee.
I’m a Baby Shawol at 35yo, but I’ve heard Shinee songs in my high school days. I wasn’t very much into kPop then but I have a more profound admiration for kPop more specifically, Shinee. 💙💙💙
Thanks for this vid. Happy 15th year, Shinee!
There's a saying that goes "shinee may not be your bias, but they are the bias to your bias"
shinee was there when i was a child so you could say i quite LITTERLY grew up with shinee and the impact theymade on music is so much bigger then anyone has and sadly will give them credit for
Me too i knew about them since i was 11
same, knew them since i was 5 😭
Thank you so so much Jonathan.
@@JonathanMillerMusic And I will watch them all!
How do you know SHINee is on a whole other level? My friend called a song a "SHINee reject song" and meant it as a HIGH compliment, and it was.
I felt it when you spoke about mental health and the impact that Jonghyuns death had on the industry and how aware people have now become about this taboo subject that shouldn't be a taboo at all..the lump in your throat had me in tears as well..stay strong and yes don't be silent ❤
Jonghyun had saved many people's life through his blue night radio and even after his death he must've saved so many by making people aware of depression and the forms that it comes in..I love SHINee and I'm a proud Shawol
Thank you! 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
RIP and he's very dearly missed, got me teary eyes when he talked about him.
Thank you! It's funny you mention Gen2 Kpop as a whole cuz I actually did a video about KARA a few months ago talking specifically about why Gen2 deserves more love than it gets nowadays! haha 💙
Yes to a "TVXQ's impact in Music is BIGGER than you think" Video. Would love that.
Can relate. I passed on kpop until I found Shinee by chance about 4 years ago. Never thought I would ever be a kpop fan. Shinee changed my mind.
Can you recommend some songs for a rock fan? And some slower ballads?
@@JonathanMillerMusic i love so many of their songs and my faves keep changing lol but i would say odd eye, electric heart, close the door, y.o.u and shift are some of my all time favorites
@@Yoonji9212 glady! I would recommend y si fuera ella, honesty, alarm clock, symptoms, diamond sky and password (these last two songs are in japanese but they're just as good as their korean songs). They did experiment with pop rock with their song why so serious but this one tends to be a hit or miss with the fans (personally i love how explosive and energetic it is)
As for ballads and slow songs, they have plenty: y si fuera ella (already recommended it) please don't go, in my room, an encore, selene 6.23, sleepless night, close the door, aside, quasimodo, an ode to you, moon river waltz, i say, beautiful life and area are some of my favorites (i tried sharing a playlist but youtube won't let me post links in the comments 💔)
Just to add another reason why SHINee is just so amazing
Even after the tragic loss of Jonghyun, the members find a way to include him in their music videos, in their album, in their promotion.
Shinee is that group where all 5 are talented musicians
I'm glad someone noticed this.
Even as Korean, not many Koreans know Shinee inspired future k-pop generations and industry as a whole.
Most people just think "It was one of 2nd gen boy group" and that's it.
They only impacted the dance sync, overall bigbang, tvxq and suju are more impactful than shinee
@@jackiekun4545 did you even watch the video? sure other groups probably had bigger impact, but shinee's impact is more than just the dance sync
Also all 5 of them are proved legends individually in their career too
I totally get it! I think SHINee and wine is a good comparison! haha
I love their music so much. Not just the sound but also the lyrics. Which are your favorite songs?
Same. Though I listen to other groups, but at the end of the day it's always SHINee. It'll always be SHINee
Sincerely, an independent artist who loves SHINee.
Its never too late to enjoy kpop.
“The whole BTS craze kept me away” 🥸
I'm joining you - new to K-pop this year because apparently I've been living under a rock... Actually I am just totally disillusioned with US music industry so I had just turned it all off. Learned about Shinee after seeing Minho in Hwarang. This video was really informative.
@@HailToTheMeepMy army friends were listening exclusively to their group until they met SHINee, lol. They were taken with their professionalism and talents in live performance, songwriting, vocals, dance, visuals. Watching SHINee in reality shows really sold them though 💜
Jonghyun and Onew will always be kpops best vocal up to date. Shawol since 2008.
I didnt give kpop a chance until i discovered Shinee. They got me interested in a whole genre that i previously wasnt listening to at all. Their live performances won me over. Now im a happy Shawol. Shinee is just that group!
Excellent video dude! I'm still exploring and expanding my musical repertoire at 60yo. Now Shinee is added to my list because of your video. 💜
Jonghyun's song "Breathe" saved my life. I didn't want to live anymore, but then I heard the song. I then started to decide that I will get up every day with positive thoughts. I have depression.
What an incredible deep dive. 💕💎💎💎💎💎
You did such a wonderful job in giving SHINEE their flowers. I have been a big fan of SHINEE for 11 years. Love this group, and to me they are the best!! Always 5, no more no less!
Thank you so much! Hope you are enjoying their new album that just dropped!
@@JonathanMillerMusic Oh yes , most definitely!
As a new Shawol i really appreciate you including birdview of what was happening back then in terms of world events and popular culture. They contextualize just how massive shinee is outside of “streaming numbers”.
netizens were so cruel to jonghyun from 2011 to 2013/14. and were absolutely disgusting to sulli when she dated choiza
That was a lovely celebration of SHINee. Thanks so much.
Thank YOU for watching! 💙💙
I appreciate and concur with you entire comment but "the cutest cats to ever cat" really got me 💜
When I watched 'Sherlock' I am immediately hooked!

Jonghyun was actually one of the original members of SM the ballad and he was the only original member to be a part of their 2nd mini album
I’m soo happy there are so many people who honor SHINee.. they’re very exceptional in everything.
They’re influence on Shawols can also be seen.

taemin got me into kpop roughly 4 years ago, so he and shinee will always be so special to me. even if im mainly an exo fan now (though the two are so closely linked to each other (not stylistically but as labelmates and friends of each other), shinee holds a place in my heart no other group could reach. anyway thank you for this video. i always knew how incredible shinee is but this just confirms it once again
edit: moonbin meant quite a lot to me (still does), so when key and taemin where some of the first idols to publically pay their respects even though i dont think theyd ever met him personally... it meant a lot. like, it hurt, but it helped. their resilience and strength but also openness about their feelings after losing someone they were so close to, jonghyun, it gave me hope when i felt horrible. i didnt know moonbin like they knew jonghyun of course and i never could, so i dont directly want to compare the pain i feel to what they mustve gone through, but either way seeing them laugh in a random funny shinee moments video reminded me that im going to be okay even if the pain feels endless.
I'm glad Jonghyun is being talked about! he's so important to shinee and kpop in general and needs to be celebrated!

Probably the most respectfull videoessey on Shinee I've seen
Thank you so much! I did my best
I've been listening to them since 2011, and they still are my fav group T_T
This is gonna sound like im grading students work but damn what a great essay, very insightful and entertaining
Add:
- Goo Hara experienced domestic violence and sexual violence, and not only struggled with that abuse, but the tolls of significant post-separation abuse, and ongoing legal action. To quote Ho-In directly, "unfortunately the punishment for partner violence in our country is too lenient, and protection for victims is too weak."
- Moon Bin's cause of death was never made public (police stated no suspicious circumstances); the autopsy results were also never made public.
I had that tiny screen phone, and the yt video played in pixels, buffering for an hour, I sometimes laugh out loud bcz I was caught up in the hallyu wave so bad 😂
Bigbang, FtIsland, CNblue, Shinee, BAP... I lost my mind as a fangirl back then. In my mid thirties now, I feel sort of proud.
❤Shinee forever❤
Thank you so much for this video! SHINee’s legacy is undeniable and they will always be 5!!
Thank you ❤
Thank you for understanding. 💙
I may be biased because I'm such a shawol, but this has got to be one of the most well-written, well-researched videos about SHINee. Thank you!
That was beautifully done. I mentally prepared myself and still ended up crying at the end.
Thank you! I'm touched it made you cry! 🥺
this is one of the most insightful videos about SHINee. They deserve all the praise and recognition for the enormous cultural impact on kpop and continues to do so. I have been listening to them lately and it makes me be in awe at how much they've evolved over time since 2008
Thank you so much!! 💙
As for my fave SHINee songs..Lucifer...Everybody..Picasso..To your heart...Lucky Star. ..321... Nightmare..Orgel..ugh..too many lol..man SHINee really hits..
OMG yayyy! I'm glad you've found them and their music! They've done a lot for me as a person and artist so it makes me really happy to hear how they've affected so many people's lives no matter what age people are. I love it!
@@JonathanMillerMusic finally! Now I'll go forth and shine like SHINee!💕
it is Jonghyun's voice that got me addicted to K-pop!!! AND when i'm asked why i listen to k-pop, i tell them listen to SHINee's Lucifer - once they do, they're hooked as well.
Lucifer is just THAT SONG. Ya know? It's just soooo good. 🔥
