  • Created by Ed Mlotkiewicz for fishing on White Clay Creek in Delaware, this simple-to-tie nymph/flymph has proven an effective pattern in all kinds of waters.
    Hook: #12-18 dry fly
    Bead: Tungsten, sized to the hook
    Thread: Olive
    Tail: Natural mallard flank fibers
    Body: Olive ice dub
    Hackle: Mallard, or natural partridge

    I like tying and fishing Flymphs and think the movement of the soft hackle and flash of peacock Ice dub is a winning combination. Thanks for the pattern Ed and Matt.

    I like the spider effect from putting the hackle in front of the bead. It looks good & should create a lot of pulsing action. Ed, did you have a particular insect in mind or were you just going for a generic effect?

      I think you're right, but if I recall the Holy Grail may have a pheasant or turkey wing case. But still, one of the few flies with the hackle in front of a bead.
