Please keep posting these “simple” fly patterns! Us rookie tiers who are still working on building up a repertoire of favourite patterns appreciate it very much! This was a great pattern!
It's quick ties like these that make your channel fun! That and watching you fish at the end. I use my mugs (one tan and one green) nearly every day, the tan one is at the office and the green one is at home. I wear the hat whenever it's raining and I have a T-shirt, too, that I wear quite often. All of it is quality gear! Good luck to all of you!
Another great fly pattern that you don't have to be a pro to tie. You make them as slick as butter for us beginners. My favorite is the gilled caddis. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Matt. Nice simple fly that really works, thanks for presenting it to us - it’s the same color as BUTTER. Last time I commented, a Catskills trip was coming and now it has gone. We did well on the upper West Branch Delaware with dry flies, but not so well on the East Branch or the Beaverkill. The latter had March Browns and Cinnamon Caddis in numbers with no fish on them. Instead, the fish were taking Sulfur emergers and no adults flying around as a clue to their presence. A couple lucky anglers bent a rod that evening and I wasn’t one of them! Redemption was close as I met some friends while back in Jersey and dialed in on a mess of rainbows with that same productive Sulfur emerger that was working upstate. Well, you never know. Enjoy your tying and fishing Matt. See you around.
So one area I struggle with is knowing I've got something on my line, you made it look as easy as BUTTER on hot toast!!!! Thank you I love seeing things In Action!!!
Good morning Matt. That’s a pretty simple tie alright. Looked like it worked as smooth as butter. Always enjoy the fishing footage. Take care and have a great week.
Hello Matt, This butter yellow Griffith's Gnat should work later in the season here in the Rockies. It will probably work imitating terrestrials like bees. I always like to find quick, simple to tie flies to add to my Summer dry fly box. Tight lines, brotherman!
I just ran the random comment picker and you are the winner! Congrats my friend. Send me an email with an address where you'd like the hat and mug mailed to. matt@savageflies.com
Well step up to the river and butter me green with envy. Nice fish and to the one that got away, well you got the best he had to offer anyway. Have a great weekend Matt!
Thanks matt for sharing a butter colored fly. I enjoyed the fishin at the end of the video. That is a pretty nice stretch of river you were wetting a line on. The one that got away had acrobatic abilities of our west coast steelhead. It's an extreme adrenaline rush to say the least and they are experts at spitting the hook out when doing their acrobatics! God Bless and Fish on!
That first fish was as slick as Butter, slipped right out of your hands. Nice little fly you tied up...again, simple but effective. Thanks again for your time and effort, Matt.
Good afternoon Matt. I want to thank you for the instructions on the yellow palmer. I took your advice and tied it with a tail, size 12 , brown dubbing and grizzly hackle. I used it to fish the brown drake hatch at caught a couple of nice brown trout (one at least 17 inches). It worked like charm. I would like to send you a picture of the fly as is; somewhat warn out. It really made my fishing trip great.
Awesome, simple fly! I like the parachute Adams, some times an x-caddis. But this shows us all, sometimes simple does everything complicated does. This little fly worked like BUTTER!
Great easy fly. When I make Griffith's Gnats, I always make a few with different color bodies. I'm sure butter colored will work great. Have a great day.
Very nice, easy and productive fly. Thank you Matt. Really enjoying these new fishing clips during your videos. They could easily become your new bread and butter.
Been watching you for awhile now! Learned a lot of flies from you. I really enjoy it when you fish the flie you tie amazing as always Matt. I BUTTER win this one lol!
Man those trout are slick as BUTTER when you go to handle them lol. nice looking trout. That is a neat looking fly. You have a wonderful day and a wonderful Memorial Day. God Bless Matt
Wow Matt, that was a beautiful "BUTTER" brown! Glad you mentioned sulphurs on the stream, as you tied that palmer I thought it could pass for a sulphur. I've been seeing BWOs on my porch at night, the last mayfly I saw was a little larger, sort of brownish in color with upright, clear wings with cool venation on the outer edge. I don't know what it was. Two nights ago I saw a trico. In past years our storm door was peppered with spent trico on summer nights. Good luck fishing!
Looks like the Yellow Palmer might just be your bread and butter. I haven’t been out on the water in a while. Watching you on the water got me excited to go. Thanks Matt.
Sulfurs are the dominating mayfly in my neck of the woods. Tons of midges too. I’m going to give this a try. It might turn out to be my new bread & butter!
Unbelievable, that is some pretty water there. And you can’t under estimate a bug like that. And you know I like simple ☕️☕️ you just got to love those butter browns 🤣
BUTTER! I got almost skunked last year on the Savage; just one tiny brookie on the Upper over two days. But it was hot and flows were low. Hopefully I can make it back out sometime; not much cold water stream fishing in SoMd.
