What clearly demonstrates that Schoen is brain dead is that he made no attempt to trade Jones, just as he made no attempt to trade Barkley. Getting nothing for Barkley is a fireable offense. Releasing Jones made no sense from a Giants perspective. No doubt Schoen released Jones to give him an opportunity to somewhat control which team he next joins. But Schoen didn't owe Jones that. Jones was well compensated for his limited contribution to the Giants. Trade him and get an asset in return.
