my favorite sweeney. always gave him so much emotion. such a talent. didn't have a single clue john barrowman could sing either but he's great as well lmao
Wonderful! I love how this feels like a conversation between two men just remarking on what they appreciate about women. This performance gives it such a different connotation than the musical though! LOL!
Oh man.....John Barrowman singing this song is just amazing! Its even more awesome hearing George Hearn (the original Sweeney Todd) sing with him! Major points.
I can't listen to this just once, i always have to repeat it. It's absolutely beautiful. George is my all-time favorite performer, and I love John as well.
That's the point. They intentionally put it into a different light. The orchestration was changed as well to reflect a completely different mood than the original show.
Beautiful song, I love these two together I'm always amazed at how innocent songs from Sweeny Todd sound out of context. 'Not While I'm Around' is another one, out of context it sounds like a normal lullaby.
Indeed. Actually I've heard 'Not while I'm around' (as many famous musical original songs) out of context (with Barbra, Sinatra, etc) and always took em as lullabies and really beautiful songs. Till I've got their 'dark roots', :-P
john is not supposed to be sweeney for this show. it is an entire showcase of Sonhiem songs. i love this version and it is very intreasting to see Hern sing the descant rather than the main melody. i might be in Todd this summer and was looking up the songs. i love Barrowman and Hern so this is doublely loved by me
John Barrowman has a beautiful voice, but it's too sweet to be a real Sweeney. Sweeney has a dark past and a desire for revenge that you can hear in his voice. Barrowman doesn't have that, although it works quite nicely for this "love sing" rendition of Pretty Women
i love this song. this most beauitful of sondhiem. but put in to context of the show the creepiest! you feel the highten feeling in those vamps hmmm love it nice to hear it solo for once
@BoomChickie Haha, me too! I actually saw a production of Sweeney Todd in my town a couple summers again, and it had the same sort of irony: The Sweeney Todd in our production was the Judge Turpin from the revival cast (Mark Jacoby, i believe)
amazing. im crying O.O.. lol. they're got AMAZING voices. Sweeney Todd is the best musical, story, movie, and EVEYTHING in history! and then, John Barrowman knos of Sweeney Todd?!*drops to knees*
@BoomChickie the judge is always the lower voice. Hearn is baritone, but the guy who played the judge in the original musical had a really deep voice, deeper than Hearn's.
Only thing about taking it out of context... it makes the suspenseful part in the music near the end really seem out of place. Still, this is lovely : )
@BoomChickie You could argue that the monster that Todd becomes in the end is close to Judge Turpin - But I concur Hearn would make an excelent Judge :)
I was seriously expecting George to pull a razor from his pocket and some one run on with "Johanna marries me Sunday! Everything's set, we leave tonight.....
as much as I hated the rendition of Being Alive, this was a wonderfully majestic piece of Theatre. Both actors, performed with the brilliance that they are capable of. Such simple story telling with many layers of overtones and undertones that they weave in and out of each others world. Bravo to both of these gentlemen!
Poor George LOL. Having to be Turpin, instead of Todd. He must being feeling miserable. Either way, John does the song justice and of course, George is just the God of all Sweeneys so it's nice to have him in the song.
my favorite sweeney. always gave him so much emotion. such a talent. didn't have a single clue john barrowman could sing either but he's great as well lmao
My husband loved this song...he passed away last year..this made me remember how much he loved this.
Wonderful! I love how this feels like a conversation between two men just remarking on what they appreciate about women. This performance gives it such a different connotation than the musical though! LOL!
Hearn is so terrifically on point with Turpin's tricky harmony. It's harder than you think! I also like how they spoke that back-and-forth at 1:24
I'd imagine it's even harder having sung Sweeney's part for so, so many years
John Barrowman: The perfect link between sci-fi nerds and theater nerds! :3 I love his voice so much!
The mere fact of George Hearn's existence is a reason to live! His voice may very well be proof of the existence of God.
Their voices go really well together. That was a beautiful version of the song.
Two INCREDIBLE voices that I never thought I would hear together! Fantastic mixure!
i cant stop looping this song. omg.
why is barrowman's voice so amazing?
Oh man.....John Barrowman singing this song is just amazing! Its even more awesome hearing George Hearn (the original Sweeney Todd) sing with him! Major points.
John.. His voice is just... Ahhhhh I can't even, lord.
Awesome. Simply beautiful.
Now, I'd like to see John sing Johanna!
Ooooooh lovely ….. what wonderful artistes
One of my favorite songs from that show.
John is brilliant in this holy cow!!!
Lovely version of this gorgeous song.
Gorgeous! Jb's voice is so sweet and pure, this is my absolute favourite version of pretty women
Thanx for re-posting this.
Hearn's intonation for harmonic lines were remarkable. Bravo tutti!
Smooth....very smooth.....
This gave me goose-bumps! Absolutely brilliant performance!
Just when I thought he couldn't get any better. The entire time I was watching this and gaping at how amazing John is.
the best version so far!!
I can't listen to this just once, i always have to repeat it. It's absolutely beautiful. George is my all-time favorite performer, and I love John as well.
i could listen to this all day
simply beautiful
John makes it sound like Anthony is singing this song with Sweeney xD
Perfect
That's the point. They intentionally put it into a different light. The orchestration was changed as well to reflect a completely different mood than the original show.
Oh my God. This is what I call perfection.
Is noone going to comment just how beautiful George Hearns tone is
George Hearn's voice = perfection.
Two of my favorites. Pure awesomeness! Thanks for posting. :)
I LOVE SWEENEY TODD.. and now im having an epic john barrowman obsession... SO TOGETHER ITS HEAVEN :D
Beautiful - thank you.
Beautiful song, I love these two together

Absolutely perfect.
awesome sound ~~ just a lullaby for me tonite !~
oh, john is such a beautiful man, a fabulous artist, and a brilliant person, from everything I've seen him do.
That...was...stunning. Their voices are so gorgeous
John barrowman!! Omg father my children ❤
I love this song.
Whoa. That's fascinating!
OMG-John-Barrowman-and-George-Hearn-singing-together-they're-my-two-favourite-people-ever-singing-my-favourite-ever-musical-what-is-this-I-can't-even-oh-my-god-I-need-a-moment. Wow.
If you listen hard enough, John's British accent comes out when he says, "Weather watching."
Nice tune.
Awesome! I love it
I find it super ironic that Hearn is singing the Judge. I think he'd be an awesome judge
John should do Anthony tho, he's clearly a tenor (a very good-sounding one).
john is not supposed to be sweeney for this show. it is an entire showcase of Sonhiem songs. i love this version and it is very intreasting to see Hern sing the descant rather than the main melody. i might be in Todd this summer and was looking up the songs. i love Barrowman and Hern so this is doublely loved by me
this gave me chills
Wunderbar!
Extremely handsome man with a beautiful voice!
Genius.
Yea!😊

L Ron Howard it's not Sweeney Todd
They also raised the key so it would fit better in his tenor range.
His voice is definitely more fitting for Anthony or Toby
I sang this song with one of my best friends, and my part was George Hearn's part!
i love this song. this most beauitful of sondhiem. but put in to context of the show the creepiest! you feel the highten feeling in those vamps hmmm love it nice to hear it solo for once
@BoomChickie Haha, me too! I actually saw a production of Sweeney Todd in my town a couple summers again, and it had the same sort of irony: The Sweeney Todd in our production was the Judge Turpin from the revival cast (Mark Jacoby, i believe)
Amen to that! o.o
i love Barrowman's voice >.
amazing. im crying O.O.. lol. they're got AMAZING voices. Sweeney Todd is the best musical, story, movie, and EVEYTHING in history! and then, John Barrowman knos of Sweeney Todd?!*drops to knees*
i'm in love too
First he was Sweeney now Turpin, and he always managed to be awesome.
omg! omg! omg! I love this song from "Sweeney todd" ... didn't know he sang this ...
Don't forget Zaza in La Cage... From Sweeney to Zaza, I don't think there's a more versatile man out there.
@BoomChickie the judge is always the lower voice. Hearn is baritone, but the guy who played the judge in the original musical had a really deep voice, deeper than Hearn's.
@ResplendentShadows Yeah agreed! But it would be super neat to see John's twist on it!
The song is originally from Sweeney Todd, but this scene is from the review Putting It Together. He's not supposed to be Sweeney here.
Amazing! Wonderful!! Hearn is a myth!!!
I love the way John pronounces "Pretty Women"
No, it's always been in Sweeney Todd. This is a part of a revue dedicated to the composer, Steven Sondheim.
Holy crap! i was looking for something else, but when i saw that i was like "Barrowman and Hearn!? wtf i gotta see this!"
i understand that, but its just my point of view after seeing the production, and hearing this amazing song. Its one of my favs.
What is the song that plays after the guy says "invitation?"
Only thing about taking it out of context... it makes the suspenseful part in the music near the end really seem out of place. Still, this is lovely : )
OMG SWOON. I CAN'T.
nice work Barrowman did well singing this song from Todd's Point of view
John Barrowman did a good rendition. However, he would be much better as Tobias!
this is just freaking great
first rickman now barrowman!? (L)
xx
Kinda weird hearing George singing the turpin parts
goodluck!
@BoomChickie You could argue that the monster that Todd becomes in the end is close to Judge Turpin - But I concur Hearn would make an excelent Judge :)
@pipkinsweetgrass My condolences. :(
I loved this.
I wish John's voice was a bit deeper/ more psychotic.
George was amazing.
I much prefer i higher cockney voice sweeney so happy to see this
I was seriously expecting George to pull a razor from his pocket and some one run on with "Johanna marries me Sunday! Everything's set, we leave tonight.....
Technically... first Barrowman, now Rickman since Putting it Together was 1999... but, yes =)
The one time we see Hearn singing the Judge’s part instead of Sweeney’s!
He also did it for Sondheim's 80th
You know what "dancing" is code for.
A jó találkozása a jóval.
as much as I hated the rendition of Being Alive, this was a wonderfully majestic piece of Theatre. Both actors, performed with the brilliance that they are capable of. Such simple story telling with many layers of overtones and undertones that they weave in and out of each others world. Bravo to both of these gentlemen!
Hearn has no right to be this good...
I don't think Tennant leaving will have any affect on that. Remember, Captain Jack first appeared with Eccleston, before Tennant.
I didn't know Malcolm Merlin could sing. :P
Aladdin's voice met Sweeney Todd ? ...
I personally prefer Cariou over Hearn, but I love their voices. :) Hearn is growing on me.
Actually, I'd go for first Hearn, then Barrowman and now Rickman. :-P
*Swoons*
Poor George LOL. Having to be Turpin, instead of Todd. He must being feeling miserable. Either way, John does the song justice and of course, George is just the God of all Sweeneys so it's nice to have him in the song.
