Narrowboat rescue after York floods

  • Recovering a 42' narrowboat, left stranded in central York after the floods had receded in the late 1980's. It was a difficult recovery with the crane overloaded and the vessel precariously perched on a cast iron fence. Caused quite a sight for the York shoppers!! The boat was fully renovated and sold 6 months later.

    The quality of the video looks modern but.... no hi viz, no ear defenders, no hard hats, no walkie talkies - bystanders within 50 miles.. it can only be pre- Health and Safety!

    Well done on being the 1,000th viewer ! It was filmed by my father 20odd years ago who is a bit of an amateur film maker! (not sure what camera he used but it will have been expensive I suspect :)

    Not a hi-vis jacket or a hard hat in sight. Not even a health and Safety office bound tick-box 'specialist' to be seen. Just sheer bloody common sense, taking account of risks, and a dollop of experience.
