    I was lucky enough to ride on this car when they introduced it on the A train. I really like the interior design. It almost felt like European style. I rode the subway in Paris. They should've implemented that to the newer cars. I find it brilliant having the first seat away from the door because there are passengers tend to stand next to the doorway and gets in the way from people getting off and on.

    The thumbnail is absolutely gorgeous. These trains have always had a certain mystique to them, no doubt in part to them being an actual functioning prototype that existed outside of early renderings and schematics. The ending was a nice touch, it reminded me that the R211s were originally supposed to be 75-footers.

    So... the famed N.Y.C.T.A. is gone, replaced by (MTA NYC TRANSIT).
    R-110B sits in the yard at P.S. 248 and the R-211 traverses the flyover into Coney Island Yard.
    Time stands still for no man.

    Great work Mr. Railfan. Watching a video from 30 years ago when the 110 was projected to be the biggest deal, then to see it sitting in mothballs as it's "grandchild" is delivered 30 years later. What a time trip. Best NYCT railfan video.

    The 90s were not ready for New Tech Trains, but I must say, both the R110 A & B seriously paved the way for new NTTs such as the R142/A, R188, & (future) R262s for the A Division, and the R143, R160, R179, & (upcoming) R211 cars for the B Division. I also really like how the R110A & R110B took a pose at Smith-9th Sts in Gowanas, Brooklyn with the Twin Towers in the horizon. Well done.

      @One Day those trains road very smooth they kind of remind me of the R 46s when they were young. They had the real road style acceleration and were very quiet inside for the most part. Once they started regular acceleration beyond the 5 mile an hour they were pretty strong.

    5:24 that shot with both NTT Prototype trains at Smith-9th Streets Station with the Twin Towers in the background is just awesome. Real shame the towers were destroyed on 9/11 when the first of the official NTT’s, the R142/A’s were in service on the 2, 5 and 6, (the 4 didn’t start running with R142/A’s until 2002) and when the R143 was still being delivered and had yet to begin service on the L in December 2001, therefore they sadly weren’t around when the R160’s, R188’s, and R179’s began service.
    Those towers definitely would’ve co-existed with the rest of the official NTT fleet had 9/11 never taken place. I would’ve liked to see a photograph of an R160 F train approaching Smith-9th Streets with the Twins dominating the Lower Manhattan Skyline in the background, however that can now only be achieved in photoshop, which I have yet to see someone try and pull off.
    (Edit: okay, apparently someone actually did do a photoshopped picture of an R160 F train at Smith-9th Streets with the Twin Towers in the background. Only downside is that the new 3WTC is still present and under construction. Link to the photo: www.reddit.com/r/nycrail/comments/g22kgx/r160_f_train_approaching_smith9th_st_but_im_in_an/?)

      As for the A train one, I LOVE IT. There was a point during the ride ( between 59 Street and 125 Street) where the automated system explained the features of the train. Rode this train the entire line from 207 Street to Far Rockaway. If I had to pick who I liked better, A train all the way.

    Good thing the MTA didn't accept the R110B interior model. It just doesn't fit in New York. R143's and R160's truly define NYC, as well as the R142's and R142A's

    The problem with the new tech trains is that the cars are completely open. Meaning if you want to go to the next car to avoid a nut job or someone who smells bad you wont be able to escape. The train looks nice but these cars should of been more thought out

    • @TheRailLeaguer
      @TheRailLeaguer 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That is not a big issue, as other cities have similar issues, yet they open gangway trains and have no issues. Not to mention that the open gangway trains makes it EASIER to move away from folks as you don’t have to wait for the next station to do so (currently the practice of moving between cars is illegal).
      The rest of the 535-car base order is closed ended to expedite production. All future train car orders will have open gangways. The next order of open gangway trains (excluding the option order R211s, which COULD have them) is 1304 new IRT trains to replace the existing R62/A fleet.
