  • This month’s episode of Epilepsy Explained focuses on the various possible causes of epilepsy with Dr. Manisha Patel, PhD, Professor at the University of Colorado, Anschutz and Past President of the American Epilepsy Society.
Epilepsy occurs when the normal electrical signaling between the neurons in the brain becomes disrupted. The exact causes of epilepsy and this disruption are varied and not completely understood, making it complex to diagnose (and treat).
In “Epilepsy Causes Explained”, Dr. Manisha Patel answers the following questions.
0:16 How does a person get epilepsy?
1:00 What is meant by a structural cause of epilepsy?
1:48 What are the genetic causes of epilepsy?
2:51 How can an infection turn into epilepsy?
3:46 What is a metabolic disorder and how does that cause epilepsy?
    5:16 What is auto-immune epilepsy?
6:38 Are these all the ways that a person can get epilepsy?
