I've been obsessed with RetroAchievements since joining near the end of May. Breathes so much life into older titles.

I like Retroachievements, but often the problem is that whoever takes the time to make an set is also a superfan with 10x higher gameplay skill than you.
Yeah. I only play certain games because their achievements are basically ingame achievements, like pokémon gold or wario land 3 or Donkey Kong Land 3. As soon as the game has a popular speedrun category, it often involves nonsense speedrunning achievements or tricks that you need super high skill for.

@@jasona4629 Feel ya. I specifically mentioned G/S because they didn't have any battle tower/facility at all. It's just "defeat a gym leader with all pokémon at the same level and set mode"... which btw, it feels super weird that neither set mode nor level cap is an achievement in later pokémon games when they are (alongside no items used) by far the most popular "restrictions" people use in challenge runs.
The achievements on the website can be super weird sometimes.

the achievement for erika was also a reference to a episode
this applies to basically every badge achievement.

_Safari Zone troubles_
One of the other sets for Pokemon is the Professor Oak Challenge, which I was... "forced" to complete for an event (I just needed a complete Pokedex, but I rightly figured that getting distracted by other achievements in the main game would frustrate me even more). That stupid Chansey and Tauros...
Oh, and I definitely went for the "buy Pokemon" route when possible, since one _specific_ machine has higher odds of a payout. Fast Forwarding on it for incremental progress was much more preferred than trying to get successful Safari rolls.
As someone who also named himself something ridiculous in a recent playthrough, the "seriously, what was I thinking?" line was for me 🤣

Speaking as a guy whose first Sonic game (not counting the Pico) was that one... I think you may have replaced the tough set with an even tougher set here. But hey, I was expecting Pokemon to be worse than it was, so maybe I'm wrong again.
I'll never forget how The Game Grumps replaced their "Last Time on Game Grumps" jingle for Sonic Heroes with Dan instead singing "SONIC HEROES!! NOOOOO!!!"

Fun Fact, Gyarados is the best Pokemon for a Gen 1 play through, given its diverse movepool. You'd have to research why, but... it's true... at least for Red/Blue.

Turns out that you can battle the Cinnabar Gym Trainers after getting the question right in Gens 1 and 3 by simply talking to them. You're just not forced into the battle if you get the answer right.
I've never answered the questions....

The $500 karp is one of the best deals in Pokemon.. gets you an earlier Gyarados. And who doesn't want that in gen one???
I'd choose HELIX FOSSIL since Omastar's Surfs and Blizzards hit harder than Kabutops's Surfs and Blizzards in Gens 1, 2, and 3.
Omastar's Base Stats in Gen 1:
- HP: 70
- Attack: 60 (Both can't learn Rock Slide anyway so snuh.)
- Defense: 125
- Speed: 55
- Special: 115
Kabutops's Base Stats in Gen 1:
- HP: 60
- Attack: 115 (Both can't learn Rock Slide anyway so snuh.)
- Defense: 105
- Speed: 80 (Only good thing because crits)
- Special: 70 (Crits do nothing for that mediocre Special)

kabutops > omastar. Also kid me somehow found out you can game the step counter in the safari zone by lightly pressing on the directional button (at least it worked on the gameboy color) so that your character turns but doesnt move. This counts as movement for the sake of spawning pokemon but not for the step counter.

Is there a reason you caught dragonair in Safari Zone when you already would need to level the Dratini up to a dragonite? Would save a pretty brutal grind if the set allows it, but I don't remember the set perfectly
You know Pokemon Stadium as Retro Achivments that are tied with using imported Pokemon from the GBC games.

You don't actually have to worry about the step mechanic for the safari zone in gen 1 though do you? You can get a wild encounter by changing direction without walking to another tile.
I seriously don’t understand how people like pokemon like it’s the same thing every game you catch pokemon fight gym leaders call it a day yet millions of people out there remember every pokemon every character every move etc and it’s crazy and it’s a shame I really wanna get into pokemon but I find it sooooo boring

20:22 Onix is a monster? Not sure if that's a joke that went over my head, but onix is one of the most underwhelming pokemon in the game and is only a little bit annoying if you have a Pikachu that only has electric and normal moves lol.

it depends on the pokemon you try to catch. great balls are usually better, though ultra balls can be better depending on the pokemon and the hp that they have left.

Omanyte is cute but so underwhelming. Dome fossiles are better. Kabuto is also cute, and a water cockroach. And Kabutops looks under develop and half evolved which is funny.
